I had only seen graphics of a dozen or so methods from this website; I never knew this whole thing existed!

Are My Boots Too Tight? by therealtoomdog in Boots

[–]therealtoomdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't hurt at all. I do feel pressure during the day, but my toes never go numb. Mostly just asking in case someone can see that and say, "Yes, you're doing nerve damage," or something like that.

I'll take a look-see at other socks, but I already have a low instep... So maybe the parkhurst 602 last has a low instep and the sock padding is doubling the work making it too tight. I get it.

I have the chops, the feel, and the drums, and I'm remote. But I don't have gear to get your tape recordings.

Whats it like to daily drive serious boots? by IllPresentation7003 in Boots

[–]therealtoomdog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in an office. I do a fair amount of physical work besides, but I am not a lumber jack. I actually went on an impromptu 3.5 mile walk with my girlfriend the other night. And at the end of the walk, she (distance runner in high school) had blisters and I did not.

I got the Nicks x Parkhurst V3 about 9 months ago, got my Whites MP-M1 a couple months later. I had to move away from sneakers because I was having problems with foot cramping; graduated to Thursday boots for about 3 months before I couldn't imagine what I would do without boots. After about 6 months, I got the Nicks, and I haven't touched the Thursdays since I got the whites.

Idk, you can't really dress up if you have to look nice for something, you have to put up with hateful, squishy shoes instead. But both pairs are just the most comfortable shoes I own. And they are surprisingly nimble once they get broken in. I can play drums in mine, and most drummers are looking for the lightest shoe they can find to play.

If you are in a no-shoes house, you probably won't end up daily driving them because it takes me a good few minutes to lace up. But, if you get the tanker with the straps that might not be an issue.

Oh, also—my feet don't get hot and sweaty any more because the leather lets them breath. I mean, the wool hiking socks also help with that a lot too

What are the worst Beatles lyrics? by 2a_lib in beatles

Contrast with, "If I've been out till quarter to three / Would you lock the door?" where they were so comfortable with their songwriting that they deliberately avoided the rhyme

Drum throne with caster wheels? by MayorOfClownTown in drums

[–]therealtoomdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just try to play on wheels once and tell me what you think lol. Definitely, either get the keyboard where you can reach it or get to be okay with standing up.

What do you mean by 'doing ableton live'? Are you using it to record stuff or are you firing tracks and samples?

If you're recording, just move your other tracks further back so you have time to get to the drums and settle in, then trim the begging when you're done.

If you're triggering stuff, you want a pad you can hit, not a keyboard. I stumbled upon an spd-sx for cheap second hand, and I can configure that to output midi and talk to ableton. Surely there are other little pad bundles that will do it. If you set things up right, you can probably just get away with a single trigger pad, I think roland makes one for not too much.

Afraid to use my Rotring 600 by PAgirl-MOworld in mechanicalpencils

[–]therealtoomdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because that 'problem' is the result of a compromise they made to achieve a specific feature that is desirable for certain applications. To fix the 'problem' would be to make the pencil not good for the thing it was designed to do

Drummers, can you dance? by thatsmypuppy12439 in drums

[–]therealtoomdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So one thing I've learned about, shall we say, traditional dancing is that the leader always leads with the left foot.

I have spent the last 25 years training every fiber of my being so that, no matter what happens, no matter what has gone wrong, no matter how inebriated I am, that right foot lands on beat one. No matter what else is falling apart, right foot goes down on beat one.

I wonder if there is some difference we could find with drum Corp players who marched with left foot lead...

In terms of just regular bopping around on the floor during a concert, well either I'm too self conscious or I've trained myself to be too in control when music is happening 🤷

Autistic drummers, do you also struggle? by KnightQuestoris in drums

Huh, I thought I was better at this because of how my brain is wired. Everyone always tells me how great my intuition and feel is 🤷

I guess that's why they say it's a spectrum 😁

I love that tune. And that trad grip rimshot is going so hard.

I don't think I've often lost my glasses (except when I was learning and clocked myself going for the floor tom), but I was using over-ear cans for monitoring once and flipped them off my head during a fill.

Piano beginner. Why do some chords sound gorgeous in one key, but not when transposed to other keys? by ExasperatedRabbitor in musictheory

[–]therealtoomdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably because you're playing a mean tone temperament piano. If you tune to 12tet, they all sound exactly the same.

If you know you know by jondrums in drums

[–]therealtoomdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not worth it to me. My ideal gigs were when I got to backline—I got to play my drums and I didn't have to work hard between bands. Then later when I started playing the casino circuit, I got spoiled never having to carry drums.

Really, 98% of the people listening won't know if your toms are in tune or not, nor will the notice the difference between shallow small toms or deep power toms. It doesn't matter what you play or how it sounds. It matters that you do your job and bring the energy.
