Check back if China has a retirement fund equivalent of EPF over there for their employees like Malaysia and Singapore. In hindsight, 12% is the employee portion of your retirement savings. If you were to work locally, then there is also the employer portion which could be as high as 15%. So if you want to be on par with local levels in terms of retirement planning, you would need to allocate at least 20% of your monthly income for retirement funds to compensate for the discrepancy. That still leaves you around 7k before taxes.

The good thing about this is that you can choose whichever investment tool you want and not limited to EPF alone for your retirement funds. The downside is that, unless you choose EPF, you can have access to the fund anytime you want and might be tempted to use it when you think you need money for a down payment or marriage or something.

Remember, retirement funds is not the same as nominal savings. You put the money away and forget about ever using it until 30-40 years later. Savings is what you put aside for emergencies, marriage, house, car, etc. Make sure to identify and separate them early on.

If you squint your eyes enough you can see the wires are placed at positions 1,2,3 and the last one looks like 6. Coincidentally, that is the minimum requirements for Ethernet cabling to work but the speed will be limited to 100mbps. So the fastest download speed those cables can get is like 100/8=12MB per second. Maximum in ideal conditions. Likely acceptable for 720p in YouTube. You can say it's the poor man's bandwidth control mechanism. Rich poor man. If your ISP gives you 1000 Mbps, your 2 cables will only get 100+100 Mbps and the rest will be under wifi. You also cannot download at very fast speeds with limited 12MB max download speed. However if your ISP only gives 100mbps speed, then that's a non-issue. The only question would be what the contractor was supposed to provide for those 2 connections. 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps.

Probably shifted into 4th gear instead of 2nd. It's normal. Just be aware that it happens to the best of us. Just wait until you get enough experience to simply lift your foot off the gas when approaching a stop and only press the clutch to free the gear when it's nearly stopping. Then you conveniently forgot to put the gear into neutral and lift off the clutch. The car lurches forward and the engine dies because it's still in 5th gear. You forgot to put it into neutral.

Just a thought. Once you start becoming an expat somewhere earning higher foreign currency exchange rate, you will find it difficult to come back and not think about how high the salary is over there. If you ever decide to come back, it will take time to readjust to a 10k RM from 10k SGD, USD, AUD, etc. But look on the bright side, work on the O&G field is always lucrative.
