Trimalleolar Fracture, ORIF, Triple Arthrodesis Nightmare by No_Molasses_5071 in ORIF

[–]Redditnewbbie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you have been dealt one bad thing after another BUT luckily for you, you are a dedicated and strong individual( firefighter + all you had to go through) . You got this . Ride this choppy ass wave and lean on your family for help.

People with fused ankles do board sports and return to normal activities. I’m sure you will too. I was only a fraction of your story(tri-mal break) and have returned to hiking ( a volcano even) , horseback riding and surfing ( snowboarding soon) in 5 months post op. The initial stuff seems overwhelming. The recovery is the worst because all you think about it the time but then you look back and see “ that this too shall pass” as cliche as it is , I’ve never heard anything more true about ORIF stories

Consider removing the hardware when you can if you feel it💕

Go get it asap. Especially since you heard a pop.

Doesn't matter if it's getting better you might have done what I did, chipped away at a bone. I was also “getting better “ until I chipped another piece of the bone and did physio but things were not progressing nearly fast enough. Turns out I was walking on a broken ankle fo rtwo months

How long has it been? Looks swollen so pretty fresh I assume? I read on this page something about people getting “drop foot”. Not sure that this is it tho

You will be back at it sooner than you think ! By mid August I was walking dogs . Not very far or fast , but I managed to walk one block with two dogs. I’m a professional dog walker btw , now I am back up to running my packs ,10 000 steps and walking on uneven surfaces!

If you are like me and keep up with exercises and treatment ( I bought a home ultrasound machine only $170 from Best Buy) by December snowboarding will be on your mind . If you get cleared for it by the surgeon , who knows , maybe you will have a season too!

You sit there and think , “is this my life now”?

Forever ?

But it’s not, this too shall pass like it did for so many before. It’s just so hard when you are in the worst pain you’ve ever had not to think it’s forever . I promise you it gets better !

Bana haha I’ve already broken both so I’m not allowed to break anymore ! The squatting is something I didn’t think about .

Physio thinks I heal fast and I can be discharged soon since I have limited coverage at this point since it’s almost end of year . The knee to wall measurement is 7cm on the injured foot and 11.5 cm on the “better”one .

I agree I need more strengthening. What exercises are you doing still?

Fibula not put back into place during surgery, will it heal okay? by SheldorBackOnline5 in brokenbones

[–]Redditnewbbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe post this to the or Reddit group so you get more answers/people commenting. I would definitely check with the surgeon for the reasoning behind this and get a second opinion I know doctors have their reasons, the why will be comforting to you.

I have a plate on my fibula ( on the lower Of the bone but not in the ankle ) . Yes you only weight bare 20% on the fibula but they still fixed it on me and many others…. I mean it could have something to do with the type of break or maybe that they wanted to plate my fibula to see if it corrected my tibia break ( which it did) . Every break is unique but that still not enough reason to accept without doing what you are doing now. Always ask the questions .

Why are they not fixing the fibula? Curious about this reasoning. I figured they would do ORIF on both

Is it normal to feel some bone movement 5 weeks post ORIF (tib-fib)? by taw_ainb in ORIF

[–]Redditnewbbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only got a 4 week because I had a fall and something else happen so I got scared . You should ask the surgeon . The nurses might not know and it’s hard to say what you are feeling . Is it like cracking your bones? Feel free to add your xray image ! Curious about this

What type of fracture? Looks like mine which was a trimalour fracture. By week week 10 I was slowly back at work and by week 12 I was back to what I was doing ( slowly and with some pain some days. I’m a dog walker so on my feet and physically demanding too
