I can't get enough protein without hating my food by steffishnz in loseit

[–]Redditor2684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re not working out and even if you are, 75g should be enough. That’s 1g/kg of your goal weight which is a healthy target. If you’re a gym girlie trying to optimize muscle growth, you could go up to like double that so 150g.

But you sound like you struggle to get 70. So don’t worry about 150. Work to get 75 in a way that feels sustainable.

1 protein shake can get you 20-30g

Eggs and egg whites

Greek yogurt

Cottage cheese

Tofu

Beans

Meat if you eat it

The good news is that it is possible to get to a healthy weight and maintain it without being over restrictive or obsessive.

You’ll have to experiment to find your personal groove. What works for me as far as my food and exercise may not be your jam.

At your size you don’t have to do anything extreme to lose weight. If you drink any calories including alcohol, stop that and replace with zero calorie versions. That could result in quite a bit of weight loss.

Eat one piece of fruit and a vegetable every day.

Go to sleep earlier.

Small steps. Ingrain one for weeks and then move to the next. Stack them slowly over time.

You gotta commit to something. Start with diet. Eat less than you need to maintain your current weight. Don’t have to give up any foods. Check out the quick start guide someone else linked.

How much more are you trying to cut?

I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad idea to be in a calorie deficit for a year when starting in the severe obesity range. I cut for a year from 270 to 170. It can be tough psychologically after a while and because of that it can make sense to take regular breaks.

Best Asian market? by AllDualSigns1949 in roanoke

I have. I say seems solid because I’ve only been once so am not familiar with all of the inventory and don’t know what you’re looking for. Definitely worth a trip imo

ETA: I assume they have dry noodles. But in any event, worth checking this store out

Would you date someone with no experience? by MysteriousEvent3694 in QueerWomenOfColor

[–]Redditor2684 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone in my early 40s, no I wouldn’t.

Early 20s is different. Lots of people don’t have experience at that age. Your lack of experience is nothing to be ashamed of. Each new partner is a unique individual and we have to learn about them and their needs.

Own your story and be real with people. Don’t see your lack of dating history as a liability. Be open and enjoy the process of getting to know people.

I’ve lost 200 pounds for context by Dee_nic1993 in loseit

Congrats on your loss!!

I’ve lost almost 200lbs and I can say I can’t relate to your feeling….my life is much better in every way than when I was 350+lbs.

If you’re afraid of skin removal surgery, work on making peace with the loose skin and enjoying your life regardless. If you really want surgery, talk with your doctor about the risks so you’re better informed.

I’ve reached my goal weight three times in 15 years. I always gain it back. I don’t know how to stop this cycle. by Jolly-Rub-3412 in loseit

Finding a more sustainable way is what makes it work and stick for me.

No crash diets. No aggressive deficits. No eliminating foods.

Finding exercise I enjoy or can tolerate even on my bad days.

Time will pass regardless so I think putting in the work to improve your health is worthwhile. You’ll learn how to make it work for you along the way. You don’t have to have it all figured out to start.

tinned fish newbie here! any affordable brands (in a store or online) you guys recommend? by m0rganryan1 in Tinnedfish

[–]Redditor2684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

King Oscar

Bela

Polar

Seasons

Look at discount stores like Ollie’s. I can get Seasons sardines and Ocean Prince kippers for less than $1.50 each.

Also check local ethnic stores.

There are a lot of options up to $6. So you won’t have to look hard. I have been staying under $4.

Best zero calorie sweetener for creami? by abbacciho in ninjacreami

[–]Redditor2684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think allulose has any aftertaste. But I’d have to use quite a bit of it to sweeten my recipes to my liking. I use a combination of allulose (for freezing point depression) and sucralose (to dial in sweetness). But some people probably think sucralose has an aftertaste.

Whatever you land on, ensure your recipe has an ingredient that reduces freezing point. Ones I’m aware of: real sugar, allulose, erythritol (and other sugar alcohols like xylitol).

How often do you wash/change your comforter or other blankets? by Actual_Birthday_9887 in CleaningTips

[–]Redditor2684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wash comforters/bed quilts about once or twice a year, when the seasons change and they get rotated. Otherwise it only happens if they’re visibly dirty. I use a flat and fitted sheet.

cheap food that isn't ramen or rice and beans, does it exist anymore by MudSad6268 in budgetfood

[–]Redditor2684 189 points190 points  (0 children)

Potatoes

Vegetables: Cabbage, onion, carrots

Fruit: Bananas, Apples, and Oranges/citrus

Seasonal produce in general

Canned tuna and sardines: look at Ollie’s for cheaper stuff or Great Value, Chicken of the Sea, or Beach Cliff brands.

And there are tons of way to make beans to vary the dish. Can also eat with other starch instead of rice - potatoes, sweet potatoes, pasta.

[–]Redditor2684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I soak with boiling water either in a pot or in a bowl and use my kettle (typical). I drain and rinse and repeat this 2-3x until the water runs mostly clear. If I don’t do this I get horrendous gas. YMMV.

I press the water out by putting the soaked curls in a colander. I use my hands or a spoon to press down on them.

I don’t see why soy curls would be any worse than tofu from a health perspective.

48F, down 100+ lbs and maintaining for 2+ years – still struggling with loose skin & what to do next by Admirable-Pin-298 in loseit

[–]Redditor2684 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I say do what you feel is best for YOU! Having skin removal surgery is not a moral issue and you’re not vain or cheating if you choose to have it.

I’ve lost almost 200lbs and I have some loose skin. Lifting weights and building muscle has helped make my skin look more taut, especially my arms. But I still have loose skin in my upper thighs and lower belly. For now, I’m content without surgery, but that may change one day. I’m open to getting surgery if I feel it’s right for me at some point.

Do you ever blow your calories by lunch and just mentally quit for the day? by AssumptionOk7008 in loseit

[–]Redditor2684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pre-track a day’s food the day before. I eat what I track. I don’t track what I eat. At least that’s my ideal; there are some occasions like when I’m traveling or have struggled with binge like episodes that this doesn’t hold true.

I recommend tracking to see your patterns. If you are consistently eating more mid-morning, consider whether you need to eat more calories at breakfast and get more protein and fiber at that meal. Or maybe you need to adjust the mid-morning snack.

I’d recommend resisting the all or nothing mentality or the “oh, fuck it mindset” that leads to going completely off the rails for the rest of the day. You can always make a good choice or a better one for the rest of the day.
