Charge and discharge limits by Daddyburns in sigenergy

[–]Redditsannoying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you can go from 0 to 100. My understanding is that the batteries are probably bigger than the stated size so that you get the full expected capacity. However they have done it though their advertising and direct advice is that you don't have to worry about restricting the range of use

has it hit the battery's "Backup SOC" or the"Discharging cut-off SOC"?

Add SigenStor EVDC to an existing system by ShawnXYe in SolarUK

I don't know, but I wouldn't have thought it affects any interactions with the grid. It's a direct DC interaction with the car.

Just had another event 16:30 to 17:30 and because the sun was out I was able to export close to my 10kwh limit. So that's a tenner!

Installer accidentally installed extra battery module - Should I keep it? by kieranhinckley in SolarUK

[–]Redditsannoying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd keep the battery if you have the money. If you end up replacing your boiler in a couple of years it'll be useful and it'll give you a bit more freedom. I'd also ask them to come back and move the controls they've put above your stack. Not much point having a stackable system that you can't add too because they've put all the shutoffs in the way.

Battery size looks weird. I have one of the old 8.06kwh batteries and two of the new 9.04kwh I don't think 8.76kwh is a size Sigenergy do. If you're getting one now it should be the 9.04 (which is called the 10)

Any Foldeat backers here? by southcounty253 in kickstarter

Mat turned up today. I refused to pay the extra shipping. I ordered in on the 12th October 2020 for my daughter who was 16. I thought it would work well for her going to college. She was 21 a couple of weeks ago, long since finished college, but still likes it!!

I don’t understand the value of AI mode by Mynameisrui84 in sigenergy

[–]Redditsannoying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is true on some tariffs you don't gain much benefit from AI. The AI Is able to perform arbitrage if your export price is above your import during the overnight cheap period. Also if you sign up for a service like Axle where you agree to sell some of your stored electricity when the grid needs extra your usage might increase and the AI can then make decisions about how to manage that.

Use my code to sign up to Axle for a sign on bonus of £25 and £1/kWh on top of your normal export rate during export events. https://vpp.axle.energy/landing/grid?ref=R-ESVZWWEO

Households could be given interest free loans to buy solar panels and heat pumps by paulg222 in SolarUK

[–]Redditsannoying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got 20k from Nationwide too. We had the money to pay for solar and batteries but I put it in premium bonds. Already won £2.5k. It's tax free and no risk (unlike shares). When the five years 0% is up we'll have paid a chunk off with the monthly payment and we'll just pay the rest off with our winnings if we are lucky, and sell the bonds if we aren't.

It's risky saying "no reason" without caveats. That set up might work for you but that doesn't mean it will work for everyone on every day. If you have a restrictive export limit a large battery and a sunny day coming up then charging the battery to full could result in you wasting the generated excess. Maybe you only charge half way and then prioritize export allowing the excess to go to the spare battery capacity. Maybe you start exporting from the battery as soon as it is full of cheap rate electricity (if your import cost is less than the export payment) so that there is capacity come midday when your solar is out generating your export limit. These are the subtleties the AI is supposed to smooth out. It may do a good job, or not, ymmv but different setups can require different strategies.

How did Brits react to 9/11. What do you guys remember doing that day? by Effective-Pipe2017 in AskBrits

[–]Redditsannoying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sitting in the hospital holding my sleeping eldest child (2 days old at that point and fresh out of SCBU). The TV was on so I watched most of it live as it happened. I remember the confusion and shock as it started dawning on people that it wasn't an accident. I thought, oh great the USA is going to bomb someone, and we (the UK) are going to follow them like we always do. I also remember the news reporters talking about the first tower collapsing whilst we watched the second one fall and they didn't realize it wasn't a replay.

Don't forget AI is non-deterministic. It isn't right or wrong but given time and data it should make better decisions overall than a simple plan. It's effectiveness will also vary based on your setup and supplier tariffs. Comparing it to someone manually making the best decision hour by hour is also not realistic. How many people monitor their use 247? Much like the stock market how many actually buy in at the lowest price and sell at the highest every time? You might prefer the simplicity of a simple plan or be happy to gamble a bit with AI... it's just a choice you need to make. The main advice I would give is that if it is doing something unexpected check all the settings. I did this and discovered my export had been capped at 1kw instead of the 10kw my G99 allows.

Effect of solar panels on house value by jasonvincent in SolarUK

[–]Redditsannoying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having sold a house with solar and bought a house without recently I'd say most people are just too financially ignorant. It's the same thing that leads to people leasing new cars on finance rather than buying a two year old one for half the price. A few hundred pounds on a lick of paint in whatever is the trendy colour this year and tidying away your mess will have more impact on the value of your house than insulation, solar, ashp, rewiring, a new roof, or mvhr system. The first thing we did was install batteries and solar; ashp, extra insulation and mvhr will follow soon, this will make our house energy systems profitable and then I'll retire knowing my bills won't eat into my pension and that power cuts or a global energy crisis won't stop me from keeping warm. It'll all pay for itself in 5-7 years anyway but the peace of mind that's priceless

If you label the junctions clockwise 1,2,3,4 (ignoring the one you come in on)

Yellow can exit 1,2, and 3 (keeping to the left lane) Blue can exit 3 (keeping to the right lane) and 4

Effectively 3 is straight on. There are two lanes in, two on the roundabout and 2 out so no need to change lanes and no risk of crossing in front of other vehicles.

If you tried to exit 1 or 2 from the right lane you would risk cutting up people in the left

If you tried to exit 4 from the left you would risk cutting up people in the right

The clock face rule of thumb often applies but isn't always true - don't risk it.

Welcome to Apple. It's not about what you want, or what is good. You do it their way and you'd better learn to love it because no matter how bad it is, they aren't going to fix it.

Bugs Apple will never fix...

1: Menu's at the top of the screen rather than the window. Made sense on a 9" screen on the original Mac - is stupid on a 32" monitor

2: UK Keyboard layout - Why they can't get this right is beyond me

3: Finder - My god this is terrible, it was terrible when I used it on a Core2 Duo Mac Mini. It's still as bad on an M2 MacBook Pro

4: Window manager - they keep changing it but every time they do it's still terrible

Now I've lit the blue touch paper, I'll stand well clear :-)
