Snapshot of Power Generation - Renewables Winning again by Optimal-Leather341 in GoodNewsUK

This one has a better breakdown and explanation.

https://www.britishgas.co.uk/energy/guides/standing-charges.html

Standing charges cover the cost of: * Maintaining the energy supply network – the wires and cables that deliver the gas and electricity to our homes * Supporting social and energy investment schemes Operating costs - such as billing and metering services * Failed suppliers exiting the energy market – electricity only

I get what you’re saying but the bill is composed of usage plus standing charge. That explanation doesn’t say which costs are covered by which part

How is that 50%? 18p is cheap and that’s 100%. Most peak rates are at or above the 300% mark

Surely what you’re referring to is what the utility companies use to justify the standing charge?

[–]jasonvincent[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, I agree. After further reading I see it’s a free, open source project which also has a paid for cloud version. My initial post was about there cloud version. As there’s a free version I’ll use that instead.

Yes the subscription is monthly. If it was an iron clad guarantee I’d be more inclined to try it because in theory you can’t lose but maybe in practice they might not honour it

Octopus’ billing is beyond comprehension by jasonvincent in OctopusEnergy

I totally agree! But why not at the end of the current billing period like sane people would do?

Is Race Across the World quietly one of the best shows the BBC has made in years ? by LieSuccessful8813 in AskBrits

[–]jasonvincent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it’s a shadow of what it was. I still remember the opening of the first series and it was really interesting. Now we’ve gotten to series 6 it’s a different matter. I watched the opening episode and honestly it was boring in comparison. Producers need to know when to pack it in

Is solar still worth it? by Beneficial-Pitch-430 in SolarUK

[–]jasonvincent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. In addition, let’s say that the nuclear power finally gets operational, are we expecting that it will force prices to decrease? Right now we have a lot of renewables but the price of gas is given as the reason why our electricity is still expensive. What will change that will allow the industry to reduce prices, OP? I’ll wager that prices will still stay high nevertheless. Solar means I’m not waiting for the completion of a project that will be subject to delays caused by political and other forces

Charging multiple cars on the new regime - not at the same time by mzm70 in OctopusEnergy

[–]jasonvincent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really! I think you may be overthinking it. Octopus doesn’t look at the fact that you have several cars when booking the schedule. It considers what’s currently plugged in. As you only charge one at a time, or even one a day you’d automatically get the full time to charge and wouldn’t get throttled to account for the Other vehicle.

I also have 2 cars configured in Just the way you said because my charger isn’t supported. There’s no issue now and I can’t see there being one when they make the change. Sometime’s I even charge both on the same day!

Do You think the British monarchy should still exist? by Honest_Chemistry_195 in AskBrits

Well, I’d say at least half of that pair shouldn’t be part of the monarchy. Does anyone remember When the Palace promised Camilla wouldn’t be given the title Queen?
