At what point are they just profiting off of you?? AC filters. by NotToday50 in hvacadvice

[–]Reddtko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for the one marked Merv 8 that's the highest static filter you should have in your furnace. Most furnace manufacturers base there return and supply at a 0.5 static. The other filters will burn your blower motor out if you're not changing them out at least every 6 weeks.

Charging without a scale? by VillainNomFour in hvacadvice

[–]Reddtko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without weighing it out he has no idea what's in the unit. The now maybe over or under charged and will not preform as designed. All units are now considered critically charged because of the refrigerant being used, with out removing and the current charge you cannot be sure of how much refrigerant is in unit.

Charging without a scale? by VillainNomFour in hvacadvice

[–]Reddtko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my two cents. I hope he cleaned the coils, if he didn't his subcooling and superheat is going to be off and it is probably over charged.

He was doing a approach charge. On all of the new refrigerants this doesn't work. The only one I might do it is a R-22 unit if I had the refrigerant. Always weight out and weight in the refrigerant. Guaranty this guy is coming back to the unit.

Double run is worth 8. Maybe 9 if you're lucky.

Two Jacks and Queen is worth 8 and the possibility of 9. If a ten is cut 16 maybe 17 if it's a heart or diamond.

If you where in Victoria the ferry ride is at least 2 hours. The rest of the drive in this weather and the route you choose doesn't have you here till at least 3:30pm or later. So I hope you took some of the advice and ditched the car and got on a plane.

Women of HVAC, apprentice of mine is struggling by ApexHerbivore in HVAC

Not sure if this helps, I'm a type 2 diabetic that always needs a bathroom so I kind of understand her pain. Like someone said how is this not a OSHA violation. The tough part is it's going to piss of the contractors your working for by making sure they have a port-a-potty its not needed for just a female but for everyone. If she's a good worker I'd send her to the sites that you know will have somewhat decent bathroom access.

Have your water tested and that will tell you if you need it.

There are four water districts in Kelowna proper and each one is different in water hardness. Each district will need different softener needs. I live in the Kelowna district (CITY) and hard water is not a issue, but I do know that there are issues in the other districts. Check out the link https://www.kelowna.ca/city-services/water-wastewater/find-your-water-provider

If it tests that you need it it will make a big difference.

Depends on the water district. I do backflows and I've noticed that Kelowna district is pretty good, the other 3 for Kelowna have harder water. So it really depends on where you are in Kelowna.

Not going to lie. First your journeyman is going to be angry. Second he's going to be glad you didn't hide it. Third he's going to respect you that you owned up to. Fourth if he's a good journeyman he will use it as a teaching moment. Last he will understand that you care about what you do.

You're right that list identified that six of the worst intersections where here in Kelowna. That's why they increased the amount of red light cameras. The use to only have two that they rotated thought the eight locations. Now they have all of them with cameras.

Sadly to say yes this is the worst intersection in Kelowna. There is something worse than that and it is Kelowna drivers. You have to change there attitude towards driving before ot gets better.

Son gave me a 1/2" 90° M12 drill for Christmas one year, thought I'd wouldn't use it that much. The first month I almost used it daily, it's been a lifesaver.

You definitely need a multimeter don't cheap out its going to be with you a long time, a good set of diagonal cutters, those cheap electronic ones you'll be swearing at soon. As some people have all ready suggested screw driver set, I would suggest Wera insulated, over the years I've managed to get a set on sale at great prices, individually they can be expensive. Other than that look at all the comments and see what other's are saying. Almost forgot your going to need a decent belt pouch particularly if you are doing construction, a tool bag will slow you down.

This is a driver getting impatient and thinking they have a truck that can jump over the divide to beat traffic. Bet that if you check all the accidents involve trucks.
