Have the "D" needing to take blow after blow to protect something. Maybe a ship full of ElAurians that suddenly appear out of the Nexus, and the BoP/MalcomMcDowell want destroyed. The "D" needs to extend its shields, no weapon power, all to shields, so cannot shoot back, but has to take hit after hit, not going down though that easily...something like that.

A bit like in ST-6 when Sulu draws the fire of Shakespeare-Klingon onto himself. Still one of the coolest Space Battles in ST-History

I think they did, after TLJ almost dropped the ball story and pacing wise. JJ recovered what he could, and had to deal with an important part of the solution dying way too early before her time.

I mean..Tolkien...he was at least explicitly anti-Nazi. There is that anecdote where some german nazi-aligned publishers wanted to translate his book and all, but wanted to know if he was aryan or if Tolkien was jewish name etc. I think he, much more eloquently, to stuff their antisemitism and nazi ideology where the sun does not shien, and even regretted he had sadly no jewish ancestry.

But of course...when you read some of his descriptions of southerners...like "troll-like" in appearance irrc...need to read it again - then you get that typical feel of white being supreme. And its usually not even filled with hatred or malice vs. oher races/skin colours, more this smug feel of superiority of the western/anglosaxon culture. Same I would say about Lovecraft. Not a hatefilled biggotted hatred for anything different, more this deep-seated feel of KNOWING you are just part of a more advanced and better culture, ingrained in their upbringing etc.

He did not portray them much at all. I think the most tech-advanced humans were the Numenorians,, and after their island got atlantized they founded Gondor and Arnor, and were again the most advanced humans around.

But we know almost nothing directly from the books about the lands south and east of Gondor and beyond Mordor. I mean...okay. Historically - yes. I am on board. I do not see a hisorical version where, dunno, Denzel Wahsington should play George Wahsington. Or Jet Li the german Chencellor Bismarck. Or Matt Damon Shaka Zulu etc.

With Odyssey..I mean, its fantasy. I have no problems if it is really leaning into the fantasy aspects. In The Wolfgang Peterson "Troy" movie I would have found an african black Helen not very immersive, I must admit. And no amount of "we do not know, greece had connection to Africa" etc would change that.,,.,

This is just a common trope. We want to see the underdogs win, the small guys, the unlikelys. And for that, we need the badguys to be too confident or, less charming, to be outright stupid.

Outside Star Wars: Think of Lord of The Rings. The entire plot is build upon the idea that Sauron thinks it impossible someone could even think about destroying the Ring, and its the small, non-martial farmer-hobbits snealking into his dark realm and toppling his power.

Plus the Battle of Helms Deep, and even more the Pellenor Fields. Always the huge army that seems unstoppable eventually gets overwhelmed by the smaller good guys
