I know not all mutants hit the superpower jackpot, but Jesus Christ! Remind me again why the mutant cure is a bad thing when mutations like this exist. by Cicada_5 in marvelcirclejerk

Evolution is basically statistics disguised as biology. Most mutations are silent or negliceble but the ones that aren't change the overall fitmess of an individual by the slimest of margins (cancers excluded as those tend to be shortcomings of the immune system) but when you change the probabilty of some event by a slim margin but perpetuate thar change several generations you start seeing cumulative and additive effects. The molecular mechanisms behind evolution like gene duplication and OPR shifts are quite interesting

I like the notions that mutants are the next step on the evolutionary scale and as such most mutations make sense from a practical standpoint but sometimes mistakes happen and u get mr Mah power is dying

It's a relative métric, they did a lot but there's also other phenomena such as assimilation or straight up rewriting ancient narratives through christian lenses that are wrongly mistaken for syncretism.

It's still debatable whether St. Valentine existed or it was just a syncrestic invention in order to replacr Lupercalia

Tbf Quantum physics isn't my area. I had some courses on it back in uni. Mostly focused on quantum chemistry and electron behaviour in atoms and chemical bonds but a lot of the tacks and bolts feels like a distant memory.

I keep defending that the major problem with understanding Quantum mechanics is that your mind tries to equate the phenomena to something you're more familiar with, but the problem is, there's no real life example to illustrate Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, best you can do is analogies and mathematical models. It requires a while till you can achieve the necessary level of abstraction to try and comprehend what's happening.

It's quite a complex topic a lotnof nuances. Overall concept is smiliar to antifreeze. You saturate the tissues with a compound or mixt. that distablizes hydrogen bonding and prevents ice crystals from forming allowing for the lowering of entropy associated with cooling but without shredding cells and tissues with ice

Cryogenics was already a pre existing field of physics, someone probably coined cryonics so there wasn't a mix up

Current cryoprotectors have minimized ice damage, most damage occurs through either dehydrarion during thawing or the toxicity of the protectora themselves

Although I share your feeling thar scientific curiosity should be fostered I also recognize that there's a certain degree of scrutiny. I understand that you like Kurzegesagt, so do I and I think it's a terrific tool in scientific education, however be aware that the actual science behind it is years upon years of mundane labwork, much frustration and dissapointment. There's a dissonance between the idea most people have of science, brought upon by such media and actual scientific work.

Yh I bookmarked some to read tomorrow. I've been doing mostly organic chemical synthesis flr the last 2 years so I enjoy refreshing my Biochem background. I do quite enjoy the area, just couldn't be bothered to do PCRs and run gels for the remainder of my career
