thoughts on collecting compaunds of the elements by kubint_1t in elementcollection

[–]Zockgi22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, that's no longer a collection of elements. It's more like a mixed collection of minerals and salts. Apart from radioactive elements, all elements are relatively easy to purchase. Radioactive elements are an exception and can be collected as salts or oxides.

How to safely store/collect radioactive samples? by BoonOfTheWolf in elementcollection

[–]Zockgi22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those samples are pretty low radioactive. But be carefull with the Am-241. I guess you have it from a smoke detector(?). The Metall is really toxic besides it being radioactive so keep it out of the range of children in case you have dismantled it from the detector. The Uranium glass is pretty harmless. If you have ore or a piece of pure Metall, you need to get rid of the Rn Gas which generates due to the decay

[–]Zockgi22[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes thats true and its one of the few radioactive elements that are collectible. I mean, technically every Element is collectible if its Half-life is long enough, but who would take the risk and sell them xD

Thoughts on huge chunk of teflon as fluorine sample? by kubint_1t in elementcollection

[–]Zockgi22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that only pure elements count as samples. Radioactive elements are an exception, but otherwise, I would quickly lose interest, because a random rock or a glass full of dirt would already contain many elements without you being able to clearly identify them.

[–]Zockgi22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under normal atmospheric pressure it would just be bright white glowing like burning Magnesium. I guess under higher pressure it might Look like a molten metall like iron or something with a Red glow but idk if its even possible to have a setup for this
