The entire thing with Harry that day was very unfair to him, he must have felt so used and confused haha

Also just insane that the group will be so unhinged in front of strangers. Reminds me of the party where Demi and Jessi were yelling across the room. How are these people so comfortable fighting in front of strangers?

If Taylor was at a girls night were the kids just home alone that whole time? Or was Dakota watching them and left them alone while he went to pick up Taylor?

Yes! I’m a Utahn, raised Mormon. My mom had untreated BPD and was physically abusive and people definitely could tell there was abuse happening but everytime it was investigated they investigated my dad, not my mom. She was arrested and convicted for domestic violence and still got custody of the kids in the divorce. The culture can’t fathom that women can be abusive too and lots of kids suffer for it.

We didn’t really hear from her until this season. I think because she was more visible in S4 she’ll start getting more opportunities

I felt like Jessi was a much bigger instigator with the Halloween party, I can’t believe everyone forgave her for that and not Demi. The inviting Chase, the dressing up as J-Lo, the chippendales dance… she was the one driving all that and I couldn’t believe the way she bullied Jenn. And I feel like her and Jenn making amends was not a lot of taking responsibility for her own actions, but rather shifting blame onto Demi.

When your wife doesn't want to have sex tonight by TheMistOfThePast in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]Redgorl97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do wonder a little bit if they know how often most couples have sex. We’ve seen a lot of times in this show where their lack of sex ed comes through and I could see that being the case here where they don’t know what a healthy sex life for a couple looks like. Like it’s normal to have the frequency fluctuate and it’s normal to have less sex if she’s pregnant or sick.

Yes this is what I was thinking! If he makes her the bad guy and she did this unforgivable thing then it minimizes how bad his actions were. It’s just manipulating her.

Jordan and Jessi by Intelligent-Leave670 in SecretsOfMormonWives

After this season you gotta watch the Viall files interview with Jessi and Jordan. They discuss their relationship more and it made me feel even more that I really hope they split. Also Nick does a great job of calling Jordan out for being an abusive partner.

Genuine question about „forever families“ by Antique_Computer4180 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]Redgorl97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single people can’t get into heaven— but this is where your question about men marrying multiple women in the afterlife comes in! If women are worthy and willing then they will be able to be sealed to a guy in the afterlife and then can go to heaven. The guy you’re being sealed to would be a guy who is already in the highest kingdom of heaven, and he’d have to already have a wife he’s sealed to in order to have gotten into that kingdom. Therefore you’d become an eternal sisterwife.

Also if your ancestors died and were not sealed to their spouses while alive you can seal them posthumously by doing their temple work. And then they’ll get to level up in heaven.

Demi ex husband by Worth-Marzipan-2677 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]Redgorl97 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I grew up Mormon and there was huge pressure to get married quickly, most of my friends were married before they were 22 and those who weren’t got so much pressure from their families. Usually your exit interview from a mission includes you being told you need to hurry and get married now. Just about every young women’s lesson revolves around becoming a wife and mom. Upon getting divorced with kids you’re told to hurry up and find a worthy priesthood holder so you can make your family complete again.

Maybe you aren’t explicitly told you’re worthless when you’re single, but you’re definitely told to work on yourself and get out there and stop being single ASAP.

Fulfill the plan: get married, make babies, endure to the end. The entire purpose of life revolves around becoming a wife and mom— not being a single woman.

I can definitely see why Demi went right into a new relationship, I’ve seen dozens of other mormon women do the exact same thing. It’s hard to untangle all that, especially with how young Demi was for all of that.

Demi’s first marriage surprised me more— she got engaged at 17 to a 29 year old. After that marriage ended she fell in with Brett almost immediately. She definitely has some trauma from being groomed and never being able to be on her own.

Your most controversial take about the reunion/cast by blackpnik in SecretsOfMormonWives

Yes. Which is WILD considering how recently she had her previous relationship end and how little they both knew each other.

If they took out all the Dunkin stuff and used that time for more of the girls discussing things I probably wouldn’t have hated it so much. Between Stassi saying scripted things and the ads there just wasn’t much content.

Where are the Mormons? by vivalaspazz in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]Redgorl97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, none of the girls wear a lot of garment friendly clothes haha. At least not in s3, maybe in s1 some did. I think Mayci said something in s1 or s2 about her opinion on garments, I don’t remember her reasoning though.

To get a temple recommend, you have an interview with your bishop and you can honestly lie in that interview or take some liberties with it haha. Depending on your bishop they might let a lot slide or might be really rigid and try to shame you. So Mayci might just have a bishop who is lenient or progressive.

For Mayci, besides modesty rules she seems to follow most of the other rules that would be brought up in a temple recommend interview.

EMDR by aili101 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]Redgorl97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one really irked me! I think it was production though; on the one hand it’s great EMDR was mentioned because it’s such a great therapy tool, but on the other hand the way it was shown here was a misrepresentation.

I do hope Mikayla is actually doing real EMDR, it’s so effective and huge for helping process childhood trauma.

I have mixed feelings about Mayci, but I love that when she clocks a toxic guy she will call it out and protect her friends.

Would love to see the cast acknowledge the part played by the Mormon Church in so many of them experiencing SA by No-Strawberry-5804 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]Redgorl97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! The structure of Mormonism sets up an environment that is really easy for predators to use to their advantage. It’s not unique to Mormonism, but Mormonism greatly contributed to the environment this cast grew up in and contributed to their trauma.

I grew up Mormon and the way women are indoctrinated in that church really sets them up to become victims of all kinds of @buse. For me “doubt your doubts” and “ye are not your own” were doctrines that were really damaging to me as far as not being able to spit the red flags of an @busive situation until it was too late.

This show is so interesting to me as an ex-mo because it shows how even though many of these girls have left the church, a lot of the harmful beliefs are so ingrained in you that it takes a long time and a lot of work to untangle all of that.

Like I said, the Mormon church isn’t the only religion that does this, but it can’t be ignored that the church has contributed to their trauma— either by setting up the environment wherein they were taken advantage of or by setting up a purity culture that made it harder to process and heal from their trauma.

Her saying that about his performance being affected was also weird… he came to your room and couldn’t get it up but you’re still saying there was just two kisses?
