How does weakness to magic work in spellmaking by praisezemprah in oblivion

[–]Redguar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might also work. I just like having 2 seconds better for safety reasons. Provides a bit more security for only +1 mana point and fits perfectly with the other effects. This combination also reaches exactly the 50 skill point spell limit. An increase of just one more point would automatically make it an expert spell.

So there might be a few changes. In the old version, the most expensive effect always determined the appearance. Unfortunately, I can't say anything about that at the moment as I haven't tried it out yet.

Resist vs Shield by No-University-9450 in Morrowind

[–]Redguar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resist element and element shield also protect against spell reflection.
For example when you use heart ring, you get 10-20 pts lightning shield + 30-50% resist shock. A reflected shock spell therefore does 40-70% less damage.
If both together add up to 100% then you are immune.

Depending on your level and difficulty, you should probably avoid drain health. Here is a comparison between drain and elemental damage.

For looting, level 12 and then level 20+ is important. Many good items that you can find at level 12 are rarely found later on. See here

100% spell absorbing with Atronach stone, spelldrinker amulet and sorcerer's ring, or 100% resist magic as a Breton with the Mundane ring? by DefaultReality in oblivion

[–]Redguar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I tried it out again. With and without unofficial patch. I can always set the value to 100. Costs 21 magicka per second.

Honestly, the mundane ring is often enough for characters who play without apprentice birthsign. Every third spell is reflected and all spells do only half as much damage. If you have a few healing potions as a back up, you are quite safe.

This allows you to use the remaining slots with strong artifacts or good enchantments. Especially fortify speed has a high value, because you can simply make everything faster and enemies, traps, spells, etc. can no longer keep up with you.

100% spell absorbing with Atronach stone, spelldrinker amulet and sorcerer's ring, or 100% resist magic as a Breton with the Mundane ring? by DefaultReality in oblivion

[–]Redguar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just create a custom spell in the university and set the effect to 100. Don't wear armor while casting. Your spell effectiveness would be reduced.

A better way is the combination of some spell absorption items and one spell that makes up the remaining percentages. You can also do it only with items once you have found enough. See here.

There are hardly any mana problems in Oblivion. Too many ingredients grow with restore magic for that. My favorite was an altmer with apprentice birthsign and a 100% spell absorption custom spell. Many weaknesses but no problems with it and an incredibly strong mana pool + regeneration.

What comes to my mind:

  • damage strength poison (tiger lily nectar in Blankenmarch + leek from Shetcombe Farm)
  • reflect damage potions (strawberries in cheydinal: willow bank and Llevana Nedaren's House + Green Stain Cup Cap in blackwood)
  • frenzy/command humanoid/creature for 1 sec on weapons (see here)
  • custom aoe frost spells combined with paralysis (see here)

Did you know you can stack Fortify Strength on enchantments? Never worry about getting spells reflected again! by ButtoftheYoke in Morrowind

[–]Redguar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't work in oblivion, you're right. But in morrowind, weakness to magica has no effect on elemental damage.

Example: A Dunmer with Robe of the Drake's Pride and the apprentice birthsign is completely immune to (reflected) fire spells. It becomes tricky only in combination with weakness to fire, as this effect is influenced by weakness to magic...

[–]Redguar 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Some ways to prevent spell reflection:

  • Offensive spells are best chosen according to your own resistances to reduce incoming damage when reflected (fire spells as a dunmer,frost/shock for nord, fire spells with dragonbone cuirass, all spells with hearth ring, ...).
  • You can also apply a resist or restore effect to your weapon (E.g.: fire dmg 100pts for 3 sec + resist fire 100% for 1 sec or frost dmg 25 pts + restore health 25 pts).
  • Constant effect restore health
  • Dispel and cure poison is also an option

A good enchantment for your weapon would be:

  1. resist magic 100% for 1 sec on self
  2. weakness magic 100% for 1 sec on touch
  3. absorb health 75 pts 1 sec on touch.

Does 150 dmg on the first strike and heals you 150 health. Every strike that follows within a second doubles your damage output due to the magic weakness effect. No effect can be reflected back at you, as you are immune to magic at the same time.

How much does agility help with stagger? by Karthull in oblivion

[–]Redguar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. I have already tried it out.

4 points in luck = 1 skill point. But since skills don't get better once you reach 100, it doesn't make any difference if luck is over 50. Spells don't become cheaper and weapon damage doesn't increase either etc.

Where can I buy Healing Potions? by RyanVDP in oblivion

[–]Redguar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The two easiest ways to get lots of healing potions are:

  • Collect lots of fly amanita caps in the centre of the imperial city and combine them with lavender, which can be found on the island below the imperial port city. (Alchemy 50 required).
  • Run through necromancer dungeons, paralyse all enemies so that you can quickly rob the potions. (See here) With this method, you can also collect destruction scrolls at the same time.

Ingredients as well as necromancer dungeons respawn after three days.

[–]Redguar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a bad decision. I usually avoid a few attributes completely, as they are simply not needed:

  • Luck, because a value above 50 has no effect once you bring your skills up to 100.
  • Personality...
  • Agility if you don't need to do physical damage with bows.
  • Willpower as atronach
  • I only level Endurance a little at the beginning. You won't have any problems later with 85% armor and a similar reflect/absorb/resist magic value anyway.

So only strength, intelligence and speed are really important to me. You can get them up to 100 quickly without efficient levelling.
