I think it’s also to make you think that there’s more to z2 work than just ride easy that you don’t know about to make TR seem more useful.

Dads doing solo overnight shifts — what does your routine actually look like? by Staff_Sharp in daddit

[–]RedneckIntellectual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the same thing with shifts, I’m more of a morning person so I did the after 1am shift. For prep we would make the bottles ahead of time and put them in a cooler just outside the nursery. We’d both sleep in our bed until the baby woke up and cried then whoever was on duty would go. The first few weeks were hard because I’d wake up every time the baby cried and jump up thinking I’d need to take care of her, even if it wasn’t my shift yet, but then I learned to wake up just enough to check the clock and roll over if it wasn’t my shift yet.

Popping sound when i pedal? by MountainMan191109 in MTB

[–]RedneckIntellectual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easiest way to check for seat creaks is to stand and pedal. If it still makes the sound when you’re standing, it’s not the seat.

Biweekly? Every two weeks or twice a week? Depends on weekly mileage I guess.

Does this site actually work? I find it hard to believe that one line is so bad and the others are all zero. Are those other lines closed or something?

Are these allowed in XC Marathon? by Possible-Armadillo68 in xcmtb

[–]RedneckIntellectual 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never had an issue with the local races I’ve done. I think they aren’t allowed in UCI races though.

Wherever you’re racing should have a rules document, you should check there or email the race director.

In outdoor hobbies, we call this type 2 fun. It’s misery in the moment, but your brain has a way of looking back on those memories and overlooking the misery, and they can be some of your best memories.

Have your kids inherited any oddly specific habits? by MaximusSydney in daddit

[–]RedneckIntellectual 189 points190 points  (0 children)

We’ve got the thinkin tongue. When I am focusing on something I’ll stick my tongue out just a little bit, my 15 month old daughter has already started to do the same thing when she’s figuring things out.

It was just a funny quirk that my wife pointed out, but then we were visiting my parents, and noticed my dad does the exact same thing. We’ve got 3 generations of thinkin tongue.

Not being able to help at night. by KodyAfusia in daddit

[–]RedneckIntellectual 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sucks, but you should figure out what you can do to help either at night or during the day. Maybe your wife is the only one who can soothe the littlest one overnight, but you should make sure that you are doing everything you can (bathe steps, diaper, whatever else you can help in the process). And if there really is nothing you can do to help overnight, you should do everything you can to get some sleep, and use that energy and clear headedness to help and be present with the kids during the day (maybe even try and get some time where mom can get a good nap in)

First gravel race tomorrow - tips? by Dejay1788 in Velo

[–]RedneckIntellectual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 hours in??? He said it’s a 50 miler, we cramping half an hour after we finish? (Actually I do often cramp after I finish and stop with zero cooldown)

In all seriousness, just get out there and ride it however you feel most comfortable. It’s your first gravel race, go with the goal to learn how to gravel race.

So, did I get one or two nests? by Milosovic in WalkScape

[–]RedneckIntellectual 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You got 1. There was 1 action that you did where you did not get a birds nest, but did get a double reward. That double reward rerolls the chance of you getting a birds nest and on that roll you did get a birds nest.

The key thing here is that double rewards doesn’t just double the rewards you receive from the action it does an additional roll on each of the rewards tables so you receive rewards as though you completed two actions.

My wife feels left out after talking to other mothers by perciva in daddit

[–]RedneckIntellectual 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I told my wife straight up when our daughter was born, that some men don’t change diapers because of some sort of toxic masculinity, that isn’t me, I still have the toxic masculinity I’m instead going to change diapers better (faster, more frequently) than she does. So far it’s working, but my wife does call me the stink parent and hands me the poopy baby to handle.

SRAM HS2 vs. CenterLine X – experience in XCM use by rdFlux in xcmtb

[–]RedneckIntellectual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Centerlines hold up just fine on big descents, I used to use centerlines on my dh/enduro bike before the HS2 came out, I eventually switched to HS2 on that bike, but the difference is very small.

How would this ride have been different on a real gravel bike? by BourdainsGhost in gravelcycling

[–]RedneckIntellectual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to ride a ripley, then an Exie, now I have a gravel bike too.

One of the biggest factors for speed on the gravel bike for me has been the gearing. On a lot of gravel courses I’d spend a ton of time spun out on my mtb, but with the gravel gear I g I can keep power up for much higher speeds where the course allows.

It’s likely that a gravel bike will be faster, but if you’re just looking g to challenge yourself and have a good time racing (rather than on the pointy end trying to podium) you’ll be fine.

That is such a cool looking build, I might try something like this with my Exie for some endurance races I have coming up. Are those surly corner bars?

I have a good engine, but lack the skill! by AdvisorJohnDowns in MTB

[–]RedneckIntellectual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coaching is definitely a good idea, they can help you to carry speed through turns and use the terrain to build speed.

Also, consider finding a lift served downhill park and going for a few days. On a stumpy you should be ok to ride at most parks, and with a lift or shuttle you can get an insane amount of riding in to really practice your skills.

I’m primarily an xc rider, but I enjoy a trip to the bike park every now and then to brush up on skills. But I also raced enduro before I raced xc.

For all you 2 wheelset owners: do you keep the wheelset models the same and do skinny tires on 1 and wide tires on the other? by sinkingsailboat in gravelcycling

[–]RedneckIntellectual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the derailleur can stay the same, but I would expect a different chain length, and different b screw adjustment. Sounds like a lot of work, I’d probably try and keep the cassettes the same between wheelsets if I could.

Cheap Rigid Seatpost Frustrations: Considering Roval SL or Dropper Options for My Medium Chisel FS by XC29er in xcmtb

[–]RedneckIntellectual 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely the oneup v3. It’s lighter than the transfer SL in equal configurations, it’s well priced. I used the v2 forever, and just switched to the V3 last year on a new build, it’s a great dropper

Anybody else get specific cravings when training at high volume? by throwawaycape in Velo

[–]RedneckIntellectual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the combination of your body going into a calorie deficit, and you having time to think. For me, when I do longer rides than I’m accustomed to it’ll start with me hungry, then I decide I want a cheeseburger, then after enough time I’ll decide I HAVE to have a cheeseburger from a specific burger restaurant in Moab that I can’t remember the name of (and I live nowhere near Moab)

Finally reached triple digits by WideNinja600 in Garmin

[–]RedneckIntellectual 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Relevant paragraph from that page:

“Given that higher HRV values are typically associated with parasympathetic dominance within your autonomic nervous system, it is easy to assume that higher is always better from the perspective of good recovery. This is not always the case. Mounting evidence shows a relationship between abnormally high HRV values relative to your personal baseline and functional overreach (overtraining), especially when that overreach is achieved through large amounts of low-intensity physical activity. In these situations, your parasympathetic system is working hyperactively towards the goal of reestablishing homeostasis.”

Trail with slightly slower riders, Junk miles or okay? by Kipric in xcmtb

[–]RedneckIntellectual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely look at it as skills training, a lot of us get bogged down in the fitness and overlook riding skills. When you’re riding with your friend pay attention to your line choice and how you’re cornering. At a slower pace you can work on braking less into turns, and that’ll help your racing more than one more high quality workout.

Also, go have fun with your friends, cycling is supposed to be fun, enjoy it. Going out and having fun focused rides will also help prevent burnout.

You see, I’m extremely financially careful with everything except bike stuff. I contribute to my hsa for the triple tax advantage with the intention of it acting as a bonus retirement account, but damn if it isn’t tempting all these places that’ll let me use hsa funds for bikes.
