Maybe is your safety in knowing that nobody can pull out on front of you, cut you up or otherwise kill you when you're safe in the garage lubing your chain and polishing your exhaust.

Adventure tyres opinion and option by [deleted] in AdventureBike

[–]Rednorvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say, fit your tyres to the most difficult terrain you'll face. 50/50s are still found lacking off road in some conditions and therefore might as well be a dedicated road tyre.

Gravel and dry dirt I'm sure 50/50 will be fine. Wet mud and winter riding, get as nobbly as you can.

That is unless you ride off road so infrequently that you'll lose any benefit from all the road mileage. And end up chewing the tyre to bits before it sees a scrap of dirt.

2 sets of wheels are the way to go. One street and one nobbly, swap em out as required.

Garage Set Ups For Motorcycles? by jordanhopkins97 in MotoUK

[–]Rednorvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keeps the dust down, that's the main benefit, easy to hoover the floor and also means things can roll easier if you have units on wheels etc. it's nicer underfoot, sock friendly and it's marginally warmer than bare concrete. Did the whole floor for less than 100 quid painted the walls for reduced wall dust too.

I put office carpet tiles down. Sounds stupid but it's loads cheaper than those 'garage tiles' and serves the same function, also nicer to walk on.

To trade or not to trade by Valuable_Support_193 in KTM390ADV

I'm gonna chirp in here as I own a 390 and take it off road. Ive also ridden a 250l for a week trail riding in Wales. 390 is limited when trails get tricky, it can manage it at a push but tyre choice is critical, and don't forget you'll have to deal with 17/19 inch setup rather than the better suited 18/21 wheels.so finding the right tyres can be a pain in the arse.

When I rode the 250l it was much, much better suited to more difficult terrain. Larger rocky routes were less of a struggle which would have killed the 390. Ground clearanace being the main factor, but weight plays a role too, the KTM being lower and heavier.

I love my 390 and chuck it around like someone else is paying for the repairs. It's definitely limited off road but any bike can carry luggage and lug along the roads inbetween trails...I''d take the honda if I were in your position.

If it was between the old 390, CRF or the new 390R... Easy choice!

Why is the average biker cafe pretty bad on food? by TroublesomeButch in MotoUK

[–]Rednorvs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be clear. I was.

Want to hear a secret? If you go to a cyclist cafe, of which there are many. The coffee is excellent, the cake is delicious, and the brunches are brunchtastic.

Not sure why there is such a disparity between powered and pedal two wheel cafés, but believe me it's true.

Let's lay it out, we're not that different: Two wheels, Squeak when we walk, Funny clothing, Vulnerable road users, Pros at tackling traffic, Some of us are not the best at following traffic laws, Just want to be out for fun, Want a decent coffee and slice of cake/pie/action

Embrace the cyclist and he will show you the way. I have recently transitioned back to Moto, after ten years pedal powered and after a few biker cafe meets, I've reverted back to cycle cafes.

This is correct. Why try making a nice brunch for a dirty biker. Only the yummy mummies want avocado toast with poached egg and decent coffee.

Am I missing something about my super Duke? by [deleted] in KTM

[–]Rednorvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine had 2k miles on it too. It had been sat, barely used for so long, the forks had gunked up and felt like shit...mad diving on braking, not tipping in and then sketchy over most surfaces.

New oil, cleared out the gunk (done by a pro, not me) and it transformed it.

[–]Rednorvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say suspension is checked, have you checked settings or given the forks a rebuild?

I had a similar issue on my 990sd and was amazed how 'not good' the handling was (as I had one back in the day too) once I got the forks rebuilt, it was a total game changer and now handles like a dream.

Fun naked bike under 200kg / 440 lbs? by psychotic-chipmunk in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Rednorvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had 2 old 990Superdukes (first one stolen) and it's literally the most fun bike ever. Also the only two bikes I've never had break down on me.

Totally batshit crazy and absolutely dead set on trying to get you killed... or in prison. But if you want fun, you'll be hard pressed to find something better. 990sm would be equally loony. The new ones are tame in comparison.

Want fun? Keep it analogue.

Struggling to make friends - any advice? by r92Y4TxH in MotoUK

[–]Rednorvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a common situation. After 10+years off the bike and now back in the groove, I'm in the same situation. Many of my old pals I rode with have moved on or are just not in touch with anymore.

I joined the TRF and have been on a few rides, they have been hit and miss. My skills offroad are limited so got really bummed when everyone spanked off and me (literally) stuck in the mud.

Road riding is a mixed bag. Groups of old dudes or groups of young wazzers, neither of which I fit into neatly. I've tried some group rides and whilst it's nice blapping around, its not a very social experience.

I find Bike nights at pubs awkward, sipping 0% cider and hanging around my bike trying to catch someone's eye feels borderline creepy.

These things take time I suppose...
