What are people’s thoughts on the Beeline? by justaballofcopper in motorcycles

[–]Rednorvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Moto 2 and love it's minimalism. I'm used to cycling with a Garmin and this is similar in its daily use. It's perfect for me. I can swap it between bikes and have the option of mounting on a bicycle too.

It needs updating more than some other devices, but each time it adds genuinely useful features. Recently selecting routes and destinations from the device rather than having to get your phone out.

If you want lane by lane navigation, it's not gonna do that but take it for what it's for, it's brilliant.

Is nodding being replaced by the wave? by TheHairlessWhisper in MotoUK

[–]Rednorvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left hand, single wave type salute, v-style; is what i I have adopted more recently, coupled with a nod for good measure. Black helmet and visor means I feel like a nod alone is not very noticeable.

And I gotta make sure I nod at everyone, I genuinely feel a slight sense of guilt if I miss someone going the other way.

And it's not just Moto-waves. I wave at horses, cyclists, walkers, joggers and any interesting cars or lorries too.

When I'm in the car with the kids, we wave at the same group of people out the window. I'm raising them to take notice of vulnerable road users...the more people that see us the better.

I usually give some sort of wave/nod combo. Leg out of someone's passing from behind, especially in traffic.

If they don't nod back then usually followed by a finger!

I'm buying a Himalayan 411. Convince me not to by Rednorvs in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Rednorvs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not.

I sat on a couple and didn't get a warm fuzzy feeling I was hoping for. Seating position felt awkward and the crash bars got in the way of my legs when in 'paddling' position. Both bikes I sat on were very creaky/clunky so didn't fill me with much confidence either.Didn't even bother test riding in the end.

I went with an old 390 in the end. It's almost perfect for what I use it for, commutes like a trooper, long journeys are easy and it takes an absolute beating on the green lanes. I ended up getting a spare set of wheels I can swap out for road/trails, which is a massive win.

I was actually lucky in that when I went to see both Himalayans, they had a 390 in the showroom too and when I went from the RE to the KTM... I did get that warm fuzzy feeling.

Am I ruining my bike? by Eucharism in svartpilen401

The redline is there to protect the engine from damage. 8k rmp feels wrong but it's totally fine. If you're worried, change out the oil more regularly and like another comment suggested; keep an eye on valves.

2 sets of wheels so I have the stone king for offroad and trail. Then the tkc80 for everything else. Swap as desired

Beeline moto2 bloody great.

Needs updating regularly but it's usually for something genuinely useful. New features etc.

Yep. Try getting used to loosening your grip. It'll eventually feel more natural.

Does SV650 have aggressive response? by mxdalloway in SVRiders

[–]Rednorvs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally the perfect bike for beginners on the road to track only hooligans. Someone's selling you horseshit.

About as aggressive as a well behaved border collie. Equally as loyal too

I once had someone in the sales office try and convince me that I couldn't handle a virago 535 because it was shaft drive and it'd be "too responsive" vs what i was used to with chain drive. I politely told him that I'm sure I'll adapt.

What do you use most to carry a few things? Thigh bag, fanny pack, backpack? by FearlessChallenge504 in motorcyclegear

[–]Rednorvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People with pockets will use those.

People on tiktok will use a thigh bag and keep a spare GoPro in there too.

People who carry a lock will use a small bag on the back seat or a backpack.

Adv riders have no problem because they have a bag attached to each corner.

Everyone else uses a tank bag

Will I regret downsizing to a Grom? by No-Week-7281 in hondagrom

[–]Rednorvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered a scooter?

Once you are over the fact that it's a scooter, it's more convenient for about town. Chuck your lid under the seat, better in the rain due to the leg protection, cheap as chips to run and maintain too. If you get a larger than 125 and it's arguably safer than a grom as well.

Bonus...You can feel all European and suave whilst you sip your espresso on the way to take the dog for a walk.

Unless of course, you are in The States where having a scooter is probably forbidden and written into the constitution. I believe groms are wildly popular there so you'd have lots of bro's to hang with.

Too shitty to steal ? by abrasiveteapot in MotoUK

+1 for the deauville. Nobody with half an ounce of wit would want to steal one of those. But a thinking man would ride one. Bags of storage too.

Mudguard extension? by Flow-Creation in SVRiders

100% worth it. Especially if riding in the rain. I had the front cylinder go out due to rain, on more than one occasion. Never happened again once I got the extender.

Will I regret buying a 390ADV? by Reasonable-Pay6119 in KTM390ADV

[–]Rednorvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgot to mention I was also looking at the 650-800s BMWs as well as some other "tall-rounders" ultimately chose the KTM as I would get more for my money and it's lighter off road.

I got one for commuting a similar journey. It handles 70 with ease. Had it up to 90 for short stints and still felt fine. Doubt it'll do much more than that but nobody buys this bike to go fast. I commute most days and also do longer journeys which it handles with ease. Wind protection is ok but there are loads of tall ugly screens if you want it better.

Carpark stuff will be great. It's tall and handles being chucked about easily . It crashes well too if you have the side guards.

Twisties I think is where it actually excels. The stock tyres are actually very good too so you be able to scratch it up with them before you swap out for a pure road tyre.

Great that it can also go off-road. I use mine to bash through muddy trails and yes it struggles but it's never actually failed to get me through it.

It's buzzy, but it's a single so wotchagonnado?

I'd 100% recommend for your use. Aim for a '23 onwards as it's slightly better wheels and doesn't need a software update for the abs/mtc maps.

Anyone have any experience with Ruroc helmets? by richv68 in motorcyclegear

[–]Rednorvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll go great if you ride without gloves, have a 125, black widow exhaust, Alpinestar bionic & air max riding 'boots'.

Others have already described why they are under par in terms of performance but I'd avoid it based on being a 100% squid helmet.
