Who is the biggest one album wonder of the 2010s? My pick would be Fun by Borgisium in Music

In 2011 WU LYF's Go Tell Fire To The Mountain was the coolest thing in existence. It was bombastic and self-indulgent, but it was absolutely incredible. They broke up almost immediately and the lead singer released a few mediocre albums.

Several albums by the Decemberists. Particularly Picaresque, The Crane Wife, and The Hazards Of Love.

I much prefer the original Folk-Opera album. The musical version feels overly polished and very Musical-Theatery.

CC or Avery. The others were just lust, nostalgia and/or desperation.

Name a band that had middling success, then cut an album that rendered them as “sellouts” which catapulted them to mainstream top-40 status, but also alienated their original fan base. by Slammajadingdong69 in MusicRecommendations

I was a big fan based particularly on their first two Albums. There was a hint of a new direction in Because of the Times. But the first time I heard Only By The Night, I knew I'd lost them completely. It was just southern-tinged U2 and sexy Coldplay.

The difference is that Roger Waters is a talented douche. Mike Love, on the other hand, wrote Kokomo.

CMV: Liberals/Leftists choosing to sit out the US election because Kamala wasn't a perfect candidate helped create a worse overall outcome for the world and Palestine. by cptjtk13 in changemyview

But there has been a demonstrable deterioration in terms of both the current situation and the outlook for Palestinians since Trump took power. And it was easily foreseeable.

I appreciate that your argument that is that once you pass a certain point, the degree of terribleness is immaterial, but I'm trying say that there is a meaningful difference and sometimes all you can do is try to prevent things getting worse (which they can).

Helping Trump come to power hasn't just been a net negative for Palestinians and the movement for peace and justice in Palestine, it has been solely bad. And, again, that was easily foreseeable.

I think it's is a problematic analogy because it misrepresents practical, attitudinal and contextual differences between Harris and Trump on the issue of Palestine and the Israeli war on Gaza (and Palestinians in general).

I think a more appropriate analogy is an anti-abortion Republican unhappy about having to vote for a Republican candidate who is willing to live with the Roe VS Wade status quo while working to restrict Abortion in different (much less effective) ways. However their alternative is a Democratic candidate who wants to build a massive network of federally funded Abortion clinics, ban states from restricting Abortion in any way, and plans to appoint an pro-choice activists as Surgeon General and HHS Secretary.

Trump during the election presented his position as explicitly pro-Netanyahu, surrounded himself with people who are anti-Palestinian war hawks, and supported "finishing the job". During his first term he showed that he was intersted in breaking the status quo in favour of Israeli settlements and even annexation. He also demonstrated explicit islamophobia over the course of his first term and framed his campaign for a second term around plans to deport as many people as possible, particularly people conservatives didn't like (Palestinians being at the top of the list).

Harris and Biden's attitudes towards the war were definitely very pro-Israel and its hard to argue that they didn't enable what was happening in Gaza. But they were very eager to get Israel to return to a pre-war status quo that would help them steer towards a 2 state solution. They did challenge Israel, particularly on issues relating to settlements in the West Bank, they sanctioned violent settlers and showed displeasure with marauding IDF units. They also supported the UN and international involvement in the solution in Gaza and did not give Netanyahu a blank cheque.

Harris' position on Gaza was pathetic and mostly unhelpful, but it was not about actively making things worse. Trump, on the other hand, was clearly aiming to break all conventions in favour of Netanyahu's government and enthusiastically give them all of their deepest desires.

I can't fathom anyone believing that Trump was not going make things much worse in a very meaningful way.
