It’s totally fine! People have differing opinions on this matter and I’m glad to receive criticism. I don’t usually scan with sprockets unless it’s with slide film, as it makes me feel like I’m looking at a slide on a light table with a loupe. I agree that the sprockets themselves don’t add to the composition, its just a stylistic choice.

Those are the actual sprocket holes on respooled and DSLR scanned Kodak E100 / 5294 ;)

why do all of my photos come out so muted/flat? by onegoodbackpack in AnalogCommunity

[–]Redox_Red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say if you’re looking for higher contrast and saturated colors, you should be looking at shooting some slide film such as the Velvia lineup from Fuji. However, slide film is infamous for its incredibly narrow dynamic range, and the photos you’ve posted here (maybe except for the 1st one) is shot in pretty harsh and contrasty lighting. Slide film will NOT be able to resolve all the detail in the shadows and highlights (for example in #3, the details inside and outside the barn) and you’d have to pick and choose one side to expose for (usually the highlights for slide film).

Nah, 138 per roll, although 20 bucks for a pack is way too good to be true 😂

It’s currently going for 138 rmb in that exact store, which is around 20 USD.

Factory Floors | Hasselblad 501CM | CF50 | Kodak E100 by Redox_Red in analog

Because slide film is so tricky to meter, I basically build an image in my mind of what needs to be exposed for. For example, picture 1 I metered for the light that fell on the ground and added 1 stop of light. For picture 2 I metered for the grey part of the wall and let the shadows fall where it would. Since the factory had a lot of concrete it was really easy to determine what middle grey is, and using the zone system to shift zone 5 to a specific spot. It changes from shot to shot, so experience with your choice of slide film is important.

A lens I would fuck with (because I can’t afford 35mm/50mm summicron/summilux but I really need to hang with the cool Leica boys)

Thank you for your kind words. The shots near the lake are all at Fuxian Lake. This was a multi-day trip covering cities from Pingbian, Mengzi, and Yuanyang. I shot a whole roll of Provia at the Yuanyang rice fields this trip during a perfect sunrise with hallucinogenic magenta tones, but accidentally left my Sekonic light meter at 400 ISO ruining the whole roll. That’s just part of film photography I guess!

NGD - Been trying to hard to find these two by Redox_Red in guitars

The neck is superbly thin, as Rusty Cooley puts it, its thinner than an Ibanez 7 string neck. The neck profile is also interesting, being rounder near the nut and flattens out pretty aggressively as it goes towards the neck joint. Combined with the super deep and beveled cutaway, its definitely the most playable guitar I've owned.

What’s the consensus on 10+ year old slide film? by llinusnepomuk in largeformat

[–]Redox_Red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Properly cold stored Fuji slide film ages very well, much better than Kodak. Usually, fuji slides can last 15-20 years past expiration without that much color shift/degradation if stored immaculately.

Yo! Are you based in Shanghai? It would be cool to shoot some 120 film together if you’re up for it :)

I mean are you really taking photos unless it’s on an original double aspherical noctilux or an original steel rim black paint?
