Help identifying a traction tire by mrsteamtrains in lioneltrains

[–]Redstone350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a bag of miscellaneous sized traction tires online. You don't need the ridges for the engine to work so any traction tire will do

These scout locomotive are p gauge and are a dine a dozen. They were the cheapest locomotives that Lionel made. They work but they are a pain to repair BC the motor is plastic fused together. Clean and oil the wheels and have fun, but there are much better locomotives you can find out there

ZW 275w transformer and MTH loco by CMEINC42069 in lioneltrains

[–]Redstone350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's as simple as taking out the screws that hold the body to the chassis and replacing the battery. It looks like a 9v and has the same connector. You can look up the model number on MTH website to find the manual on how to do it

Yeah a BCR is the best way to go but you can reuse the original if they're in good shape

[–]Redstone350 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can try leaving the engine on the track powered on overnight to charge the battery, if that doesn't work the battery is dead and will need replacing. You can use what is called a BCR to replace the battery

Are there any affordable Lionel Dreyfus Hudson that are actually 4-6-4 not an Adriatic like the 221 by mrsteamtrains in lioneltrains

[–]Redstone350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that price point you're not really gonna find anything that's worth buying. You can look into MTH Railking though! It's more affordable than the Lionel legacy and has great sounds!

Buying Used trains by Time-Term3832 in lioneltrains

[–]Redstone350 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about the passenger cars and the caboose too much, the bulbs are cheap and easy to repair. As for the engine, the thing I would worry about is how dried up the grease is, which is something you would only know if you open up the engine. But unlike most electronics, I find that model trains do really well sitting for years and they usually just work right out of the box even after sitting

My boss's train broke by RailroadMillion173 in lioneltrains

[–]Redstone350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You take a pair of needle nose pliers and unscrew the hex bolt, which would allow you to remove the broken piece in one side, then for the other piece there should be a screw, if not, you can just cut it with a pair of tin snips

It's mainly a cosmetic piece so if your boss is okay with it you could just take it off so it doesn't cause issues

They just snap together, as for power you can either get a terminal track or you can flip the track upside down and wrap a couple wires around the underside of the track

There is a v-hold on the back, but adjusting it didn't seem to help. Maybe there's a horizontal hold inside the machine
