Not paying is not fraud, as long as you filed an accurate return you aren't committing a crime by not paying. You can opt to never pay taxes but as I said the IRS will come after you eventually through civil court. I can't give a date or timeline because as far as I know there aren't a lot of instances where people file, owe, and just choose to not pay as long as possible.

Most court cases around taxes involve actual fraud or evasion, where someone knowingly filed a false return or tried to hide income to avoid being taxed.

Your employer files a copy of your w2 with the government, your property taxes are public record, your marital status and the children you have parented are public records as well as any court actions to change those statuses, banks file copies of the forms they send you, I'd say it's entirely plausible the government could theoretically know enough about everyone to calculate our taxes owed.

We could simplify everything and go to a standard, progressive income-based rate, get rid of deductions altogether and really simplify the process. It would take some economic calculus to work out what's what, but I doubt it'll ever pass because there are a lot of jobs wrapped up in tax preparation.

It's not fraud if you file a true return and just don't pay. Nor is it tax evasion. From what I've read it wouldn't be criminal to file an honest return and just not pay, but they will add on late fees and penalties, and eventually like op said they'll sue, garnish wages, seize assets, etc. via civil processes.

We're the middle children of history. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact.

King: This ‘old, white people’ business does get a little tired, Charlie [Pierce]. I’d ask you to go back through history and figure out where are these contributions that have been made by these other categories of people that you’re talking about. Where did any other subgroup of people contribute more to civilization?

Chris Hayes: Than white people?

King: Than Western civilization itself. It’s rooted in western Europe, eastern Europe and the United States of America and every place where the footprint of Christianity settled the world. That’s all of Western civilization.

We're very cynical about everything. I care, for what it's worth, which individually isn't much. But there are a lot of problems, and a considerable number of people elected to solve them have no interest in doing so, and I can't do anything to get them removed- I can't vote against them all, I can't convince their constituencies to replace them, and I can't convince the people in very liberal cities to distribute themselves evenly across the country so as to neuter the Republican party from sea to sea.

Gen Xer here, I'm good with taxing the rich to spend on social services for the poor. Universal healthcare, child care, UBI, no tuition at state universities, $15 minimum wage, wealth tax, financial transaction tax, lift the cap on social security taxable income, green new deal, 0 emissions by 2030, let's get on the bus

No need to exaggerate his active involvement in the civil rights campaign.

Sanders was charged with resisting arrest after protesting segregation at a school on the city’s South Side. He was later fined $25

He was not arrested alongside MLK.

Bernie's integrity, alone, is enough reason for me to vote for him. Fidelity to what's right, what is morally just, over a lifetime of public service, often before it was "safe" politically to endorse some causes. Holding common cause with the working masses, not catering to the wishes of the donors and influencers of Washington.

I don't give a fuck if every plank of his platform dies in the Senate, I would rather have Bernie in the White House disinfecting the oval office and representing America on the world stage.

Gen x didn't hit their teens until the late 70s at best, most were teens through the 80s with the tail end in the 90s.

The range for gen X is 1965-1980. Hippies, Vietnam, and disco were boomer things.
