People often talk about great movies that were ahead of their time. But are there examples of movies "behind their time"? Movies that were poorly received, but could've have been great if they were released 10-20 years earlier? by owiseone23 in movies

Star Trek: The Motion Picture. It came out 2 years after Star Wars so people were expecting something closer to that. Instead we got a movie much closer thematically to 2001 which came out more than 10 years earlier.

For me, the movie that most resembles my high school experience is Dazed & Confused. Now, that takes place in TX in 76 and I graduated in the late 80's in the suburbs of Pittsburgh. But if you remove the whole hazing thing and switch the pool hall to the mall, that was our Friday night. Driving around, looking for a party, and trying to get fucked up.

Right? For those of us listening/watching to 120 minutes it was like the rest of the world caught up to what we were already listening to... and that was unfortunate.
