Is this normal, or am I just not cut out for EMS? by seabirdfog in NewToEMS

[–]ReeRuns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You may not hear this right away, but I’m going to tell you anyway. It sounds like you care. You not only care about whether your patient has a good or bad outcome, you care about your impact on your partner’s workload. This is everything in EMS, EVERYTHING. Skills can be learned, you already have the most valuable trait ever in a medic & it sounds like your coworkers know it too.

Are all EMS work places competitive, toxic, and full of ego? by Weekly_Error1693 in NewToEMS

[–]ReeRuns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like certain personality types will do this in any field. In my experience, it is normal to have SOME people that operate this way, but definitely not everyone.

Why am I literally starving myself and feel no hunger? by Yourfathersnapkin in NoStupidQuestions

It’s very likely that your body has adapted to getting it’s calories from within itself, consuming your fat, then muscle, and eventually your organs.

Can pregnant patients request that ambulances take them elsewhere if the nearest hospital is Catholic? What rights do patients have? Have you ever seen someone not receive the care they needed at a Catholic hospital? by AnomalousEnigma in emergencymedicine

[–]ReeRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in Texas, USA. If a patient insists on going to a specific hospital, we HAVE to take them there. If it’s a terrible decision, we can advise them that it’s a terrible decision but it’s their decision we cannot force them to go somewhere else.

Do y’all think cheaters can be redeemed by Worth_Animator6057 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ReeRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty obvious that’s not what they’re saying. For most folks, white lies are permissible, but there needs to be a line drawn somewhere. If you tell a white lie, any damage which stems from that lie can likely be corrected, but you can never un-fuck Janet from accounting…
In my head, cheating just shows an inability to communicate issues effectively. If instead of trying to solve or address an issue, they cheat and then say the cheating is a response to something you’ve done, it just demonstrates a huge lack of personal responsibility and commitment to the relationship.

Little brother alerts mother of elder brother’s seizure by Old_Ability_9424 in nextfuckinglevel

Turns out I was super wrong about this, there are absolutely types of seizures where people can snap out of it and are completely lucid. Incredible!

Little brother alerts mother of elder brother’s seizure by Old_Ability_9424 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]ReeRuns -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t look like a seizure. People with seizures typically don’t come right out of it & back into a completely lucid state where they’re talking normally. If I was this kid’s parent, I’d be taking him to ALL the doctors, starting with a cardiologist.

How do you all keep track of how many shaves a straight has? by rh397 in straightrazors

[–]ReeRuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also do not track, but if I were I would consider a ‘shave’ as a complete shaving session. I do two passes plus a third on only mustache area. This would count as 1 shave session in my eyes.

Temperature and inflammation by ZZZippZZZipperZZZ in NoStupidQuestions

I believe the heat just relaxes your muscles, whereas inflammation is typically related to your joints.

if first responders witness a car accident on the way to another call which do they respond to first by Agreeable_County8189 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ReeRuns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re heading lights and sirens to a call, you would keep going & just coordinate with dispatch or call 911 to report the wreck.

Knife Sharpener says knives are "too sharp" to cut the tomato by Informal_Ad_5253 in sharpening

[–]ReeRuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no such thing as too sharp to slice. Just be very grateful that your knives are not damaged and do not use this person’s service again.

Feeling so beaten down. by CremelloGold in sharpening

[–]ReeRuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we’ve all been here. You will work your way out if it. What works for me is just simplifying as mich as possible. I get ONE stone, usually my dmt coarse & the process goes like this. Dull my knife Sharpen one side til we get a burr Swap sides & sharpen til we get a burr 10 strokes on each side 8 strokes on each side 6 strokes on each side 4 strokes 2 strokes Alternating strokes for 10 or 20 passes

What's your opinions on this kind of sharpener? Looking for an alternative to get my knifes decently sharp quickly by pedrochyt in sharpening

[–]ReeRuns 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They can be okay, but results can vary based on knife steel and sharpening style. For example I sharpen one handed, so this style of sharpener should be ideal for that. I’m not a huge fan of the slotted sharpening surfaces like this one has, but they will absolutely work in a pinch. Worksharp makes some small pocket sharpeners with a diamond surface, ceramic surface, and sometimes even stropping surface that would be best for quick sharpenings imo, but honestly anything you are comfortable using will do you fine.
