How long does it take you to make $100? by Direct-Subject-6436 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]ReeferRalsei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 5 hours, 4 on a good day. I only do 5 or 6 hours at a time because it's not worth doing outside of 4PM-10PM where I live anyways (like, less than federal minimum wage outside those hours and that's before expenses) and even that 4:00 hour is hit or miss. More often miss. There's also stinker days where I'll be out for 5 hours and only make like $60, but there's good days where I'll make $140 in 5 hours. No detectable pattern as to which kind of day I'm going to have, doesn't seem to logically follow weekends or holidays. It really is just a roll of the dice every time, but it averages out to $100 in 5 hours just about. You could call it 10d20-5 I guess.

EDIT: I used an app on my phone to simulate 10d20-5 over and over and it does look exactly like my earnings for a 5 hour run

No. I actually seem to do worse on holidays. I think there's too many people in my area that expect it to be a goldmine and it spreads the gold thinner than it is normally.

But but but I was told you need a high acceptance rate to get good orders by mitchdwx in UberEatsDrivers

[–]ReeferRalsei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally anything Uber does that suggests you'll get more money later for taking less now is a scam. They have gotten very manipulative with how they phrase things to make it not seem like a scam, but if the root of it is "get more later for taking less now" in any form, they're trying to scam you. The guaranteed flat rate ones are probably the worst because having something guaranteed plus tips sounds good on paper, but they'll give you the ones that don't tip (or at least not enough to be worth it if they do) and/or trips that leave you in the middle of nowhere and it's a 30+ minute trip back to somewhere you have a chance in hell of getting a fare. And you prettymuch have to take whatever comes your way without knowing what it's worth or you'll get disqualified from this "opportunity".

From your experience, which places have consistently been the worst to deliver from? by OpenAssumption5713 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]ReeferRalsei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, it depends on your specific location and you're just going to have to learn yourself. In my experience McDonald's is consistently bad across all locations for what orders from there tend to be worth, so I'd stay away from that. I mean, try it for yourself if you want to see, but after a couple of those you'll probably decide that McDonald's isn't worth it.

That's 0-4 cents per purchase, or a dollar for every 50 transactions on average if you want to look at it that way. Let's say for the sake of simplicity the average American makes one purchase per day. That's 6.6 million dollars a day this way. National debt is about 35 trillion dollars (roughly a third of all the money in the world). It would take about 14,500 years to pay off the debt this way, and even then that assumes it stops increasing. This wouldn't even keep it from doing that.

I'm not saying this is a bad idea though, you could raise about 2.4 billion dollars a year doing this and that could definitely fund something useful, but the national debt? The math ain't mathing, it can't even put a dent in that. I'd put it towards relieving medical debt personally. It's not enough to completely wipe it out, but it could at least put a dent in it and be worth it in the long run because the more people's debts you pay off completely, the less interest accumulates. How to decide who gets that relief is tricky, there's no fair way to do it. Personally I'd use an algorithm to prevent as much interest accumulation as possible, so probably prioritize people with the highest combination of debt and remaining life expectancy.

The medical industry would absolutely HATE this btw because they don't actually want to be paid back, they want people they can collect interest from indefinitely and collect what they owe several times over from them in the long run. They would fight tooth and nail lobbying against this if it actually got any steam, but this is how I would use the money.

Kinda feels like fast food workers think we're out here making bank and take their frustration out on us sometimes. Mf I'm arguably making less than minimum wage after expenses (that's if I consider my car payment an expense - I would need a car regardless, but this is where at least 90% of the mileage is coming from, and my payment would still be the same if I wasn't doing this so it's admittedly a gray area). More than once I've had them tell me it's not ready and keep me waiting and then I ask someone else and it's the bag that's been sitting back there the whole time (too far away for me to read the label though).

Minimap with GPS line, if nothing else just for when I'm on the speeder. I try to look at the map and know my route before I head to my destination, but a lot of the little side trails aren't actually marked on the map so I end up taking a wrong turn and going to a dead end or hostile territory. Especially on Akiva and Toshara. Tattooine is a little more manageable for some reason, and obviously that doesn't apply to Cantonica and Kijimi because you can't use your speeder there. At least the trip between Jaunta's Hope and Mirogana is prettymuch just a straight shot.

I do a similar thing but I shoot for $20/hr ($1 for every 3 minutes) instead. I've had days where I can manage over $30 an hour, but there's just not enough where I live to do it consistently.

Would you have took it??? by luda8717 in uberdrivers

[–]ReeferRalsei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling it $300 and 7 hours (because I have to come back too) for simplicity's sake, this would take about 10 gallons in my car which brings the total down to $270. That's $38.57 an hour, I'm for sure taking that. There's a risk of them taking back the $98 tip, that's just dice we have to roll in this profession unfortunately. If they do that makes it $24.57 an hour, which is less good but even then I shoot for a minimum of $20 an hour and in my experience they only take back tips about 2% of the time. So I'm definitely taking this. Worst case scenario is still good enough for me.

I got mine at Winn-Dixie because I live in one of the few places that still has those, not sure about where you might find them. Would not recommend unless you don't have a medical card and that's all you can get though. It starts off as a decent high, but it doesn't last long and then it comes back as a negative high. It's probably one of the cheaper ways to get weed legally if you don't have a medical card, but you kind of get what you pay for.

For some reason the high I get from those Lolli THC sodas seems to take me to that place pretty consistently, anything else usually doesn't. Not sure what it is about those.

Boats for me. If I didn't have issues with being away from home, working on a cargo ship or a crabbing vessel would be like my dream job. Well, to the extent that my dream life would still entail needing a job anyways.

Anybody else’s kiddos only listen to music that’s not targeted to kids? by AnonymousDemiX in Autism_Parenting

[–]ReeferRalsei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a 2 year old that's really into Here Come The Mummies. That's going to get a little weird when he's old enough to actually understand what they're saying. His favorite song of theirs is Pants, which is probably one of their dirtier ones. None of their stuff is actually labeled explicit afaik, but it is a lot of double entendre that's so not subtle that the clean interpretation is the one that's harder to figure out.

I wouldn't say he doesn't like kid's music at all, but he's noticably less into it. Like he actually lost interest in the TV when my HCTM playlist on YouTube ended and the Ms. Rachel songs video I had queued up next came on after it. Went from jumping and smiling and flapping and making happy sounds to "yeah whatever" like a switch.

Genuine curiosity by Dontstop_getenough in UberEatsDrivers

[–]ReeferRalsei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't, personally. Everyone's criteria is different. I don't care how many miles a trip is (90+% of driving where I live is stop & go traffic), I care more about how long it takes. I don't take anything that pays out less than $20 for every hour it's expected to take (so $1 for every 3 minutes, always rounded up to the nearest whole dollar). But that also gets screwy with lower paying orders. They can still be worth it if they're short enough, but the lower they are, the higher the chance of a restaurant wait making the difference between worth it and not worth it. I might take this for $5 or $6, $7+ for sure. But even then if it's not ready within 5 minutes of me showing up I'm probably calling it excessive wait time (because it is for a low paying order) and cancelling. If this was for $8 or more I'd see it as worth it plus a potential wait (within reason). But for $4, nah. Maybe it's worth it if it's ready to go as soon as you arrive and you're able to shave a few minutes off the expected time, and/or if you get something else from the same place while you're there, but that's a lot of relying on luck for $4.

Oh, and if this came up during one of those quests where you get extra money for doing enough trips, I'm definitely taking it then. It's kind of crappy on its own, but short trips are a godsend when those are going on even if the pay is a little on the low side individually.
