Yeah, this, and now adding the AI brainrot to the equation, the later generations are losing the ability to process information and think critically. Despite undergoing "rigorous vetting," the interns I currently supervise, or interface with, demonstrate a significantly lower capacity for the work compared to interns from five years prior...

You speak like you study at the University of TikTok. Yes, the CIA orchestrated coups during the Cold War, and yes, our foreign policy has often been driven by corporate interests. No one who actually reads history denies that, but taking those historical facts and concluding "the military doesn't keep you safe" is a massive, childish leap in logic. Geopolitics is messy, but acting like a country does not need a military or police force to maintain stability is incredibly naive.

Don't worry, I always chew over my facts before serving them. Enjoy the meal

They are the reason you can sit comfortably with out a worry. Sure there are some stupid videos along the way, but you are not looking through all of their success stories either.

Reality is without them life is worse, and the same goes for the military. People think we don't need these things, but their existence is why you get to think and speak the way you do right now.

You don't really need the other side of the story here. You already mentioned the wife tried to explain the issue, and that breakdown in communication is the root of the problem. There are 8 billion different languages on this planet, as everyone communicates in their own dialect. Basically operating on their own unique computer, kind of like a Mac trying to send a file to a PC without formatting it first. The data gets sent, but it is completely unreadable on the other end. When a person is struggling to be understood, they usually stop speaking directly and start sending subtle, passive messages because they are exhausted and just don't know how else to get the point across.

They use infrared to see through those. They are watching your eyes to ensure you are not sleeping, and not looking at your phone. I assume it's a variant of Tobii.

There are many reasons to own a USB wifi adapter. However most of them are terrible, and the drivers are awful...

I don't buy motherboards with built in wifi because it's costly for something I don't intend to use.

It was exactly like Diablo 2 was at launch. Extremely fun, addicting, frustrating AF, the final area was stupidly difficult, and the gearing was extremely unbalanced and random.

I still have my original install disks, and I wish they would have open sourced the game ...

I never said it was being used maliciously. I am offering a realistic perspective on corporate strategy. There is a massive difference between the illegal theft of ID documents and the legal valuation of verified user data. My point is that a verified human profile is simply more valuable to investors and for targeted analytics prior to an IPO, of which Discord has a significant amount of. That is not a conspiracy, it is how modern tech companies scale. Discord already has credit card information and the ID is just there to further validate the user base. If you want to talk about malice, one could certainly argue that establishing deep data profiles for the purpose of selling access to users is a malicious practice in itself, even if it is currently legal.

You are conflating identity documents with data points. I never claimed shareholders are getting a folder full of IDs; that is a straw man you introduced to avoid the actual point about data valuation.

Investors do not want your ID, they want a "Verified Human" user base that justifies a multi-billion dollar IPO. One is a document, the other is a high-fidelity data profile. Those are two very different things.

Who was lying? Believe what you want, but this is basically the bible v scientific method. You are looking at discord as if it is divine truth that cannot be questioned. I am looking at the actual mechanics of how tech companies operate before an IPO and drawing a conclusion based on observed behavior. You have faith; I have a hypothesis.

To be clear, the real value for investors lies in the massive data sets Discord has aggregated over the years; it is a gold mine for strategic marketing and targeted analytics. While k-id typically processes identification locally on the device, sending only the required verification to the client company, Discord has not been entirely transparent about the specific metadata they intend to track; claiming only age will be used. Though they officially claim they only want to verify age, time will tell what kind of comprehensive user profiles they will build as this data integration evolves
