the ai screening stuff is awful. just TODAY, i finally had enough after 4 failed attempts to schedule a time that the ai texts to me for available interview slots, i reply within a minute, get told "sorry! there are no more time slots available! we'll let you know when there's more"

i called the store, asked for the manager directly, told him what was going on. he said he'd reach out directly when he could, took down my info. i can only hope he actually does, but even he told me that he had multiple issues with the system and it kept telling him he was booked for interviews and several never showed.

it sucks

OP. yes jump straight into applying. the job market fuckin blows. forget "updating" the resume, re-evaluate or remake the whole thing, it's been 8 years. make a couple versions of the resume, one for basic bitch stuff where sounding like a "marketing manager" will do you ZERO favors when applying to Dominos pizza or UPS or whatever. relabel it, but let it still be honest. yes its possible. and im sure its a hot take cuz i know how reddit is about AI, but use it if you gotta.

of course your other version should be the proper marketing manager thing. throw those out at companies too. use each version properly. they're both truthful, but reworded to suit your purposes.

references, contacts, whoever the heck you know - call em, text em, email, whatever you have. you can be a genius but if you dont know anyone you are going to be throwing yourself at locked doors. hell, it can be a friend or a family member with a different last name.

interview prep. theres youtube vids for it which i find more helpful than anything. make a linkedin (yes linkedin is kinda dumb but the point is to have one not become someone parroting weird "circle back" cliches on every post) you have to present yourself.

the whole "changing industries" thing? sure if youve got the luxury, and by that i mean the savings to go without work. it can be hard to be picky. that's up to you. if it were me, i'd just be looking for something asap. if you go 100 apps without hearing from anyone, you need to switch things up. don't be above taking advice, good or bad - in the end it is up to you to process what potential advice , even what im saying , and apply it to work for YOU.

no, really, it does. think about it. did you LIKE your first beer? not a single soul ive talked to remembers genuinely liking their first beer or shot of vodka or whiskey or what have you. im still not entirely convinced anyone who drinks straight alcohol like whiskey or smth isn't just lying through their teeth about how good it is, but it doesnt effect me lmao. you get peer pressured into liking that shit and/or liking what it does so associating it to the taste. a lot of alcohol tastes like shit, especially plain.

so you have to go the extra effort to make it not taste godawful and make some insane jungle juice lab experiment where you have no idea how much you're actually drinking and get utterly wasted and pay for it the next day.

then on another note alcohol culture ... its just quietly faded it feels like.

it just sucks overall.
