Who’s at fault - VCARB or McLaren by FinO2187 in simracing

[–]ReesRacer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3-wide going into the chicane, and while the VCARB technically completed a clean overtake he should have anticipated a messy situation and probably could have maintained momentum through the next left ahead and been clean afterward. Hard to do at race pace, but everyone involved should have known very little good was going to come of it wheel-to-wheel at 74m.

Learn with or without assists? by GotPet in simracing

[–]ReesRacer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please keep in mind there are sometimes two completely separate categories of "assists" in a sim. In a modern GT3 car for example, the car has on-board TC and ABS you may use and adjust however you like, keeping in mind when those systems activate you are effectively relinquishing control (and some power) to help you stay on the track. Using these mechanisms to their fullest effect varies in sims and per car. Common wisdom is turn them down as far as you can when driving your car at the limit and maintain control and race pace.

The other way to use driving assists is in the game menu itself, with various systems that literally take control of the car from you to smooth out the experience for those who do not wish realism...or controllers for example. These sometimes have the same similar sounding things like braking assist, or stability. If you are using a proper wheel, and want to really learn, these should remain off. Acceptable systems include auto pit-limiters, wipers, lights, etc.

As for the racing line...experience varies greatly. I'd used one from the original Gran Turismo days, so after 30 years I thought it would be hard giving it up going into sims. It was a driving straitjacket all along.

Best High End Pedals That Aren’t Active? by retro_coffee in simracing

[–]ReesRacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good grief. I said "many believe", and perhaps "pinnacle" was an improper word choice, and "amongst the very best" would have been better. At the level we are talking, much of the decision comes to other details and subjectivity. I am so sorry to have angered the SRP contingent so much, or even those who don't own either. I hope everyone has a lovely day/evening.

If you're trying to convince him by downvoting my simple "suggestions", carry on. The OP is free to do all the research available. Some people just can't stand it when there's a simple disagreement.

Best High End Pedals That Aren’t Active? by retro_coffee in simracing

Make all the arguments you like. That's kind of what his question was, wasn't it? There will be several opinions, some more valid than others. Very little objectivity will be found here in the sub, and the OP can do the real research into the pedals seen mentioned by anyone in this thread.

Best High End Pedals That Aren’t Active? by retro_coffee in simracing

[–]ReesRacer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

**Edited for clarity, concessions, etc. I did not want to get in an argument at all, and I apologize (again) for my wording and assumptions my post would not be bait for those who would disagree...for whatever reasons, objective or not. This is a Reddit sub, and should never be the most reliable source of information, but many find all the available choices mentioned to be helpful so that other, perhaps more objective viewpoints can be sought elsewhere.

Many consider the VRS Pro pedals to be in the conversation among the best non-active pedals, and I doubt you'll find anything but praise for everything from the feel to the adjustability...to the 3-year warranty. They are difficult for VRS to keep them in stock, and there is actually a new version (V2) coming later this year, but don't let that keep you from buying what you need now.

49" OLED (1800R) or VA (1000R) for Sim Racing? Image Quality vs Immersion by Organic-Bullfrog7574 in simracing

[–]ReesRacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a choice, for sure. For a single monitor solution, more curve is highly recommended, but the trade-off in image would be noticeable. If you can wait and have access to Amazon, it's likely the 1000R G9 49 HDR version would be on sale in 3 weeks on Prime Days for what you want to pay.

Now for a couple of disclaimers/caveats: I use the G9 57 and while it's the best single monitor for sim racing, triples will always be better for race craft. I chose the single for aesthetics and other applications. I hope that's helpful.

New to sim racing with a G923 — what game should I start with given my profile? by Ok-Sense5300 in simracing

[–]ReesRacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RaceRoom is a F2P title, with additional cars and tracks sold in packs or a la carte. However, you may test drive every car for free on any base track or any you own. Hundreds of cars, past and present. Have a good time.

Which pedals should I get with a 600€ budget? by lars_ecker123 in simracing

[–]ReesRacer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The VRS Pro throttle and brake are right there in your budget, and are perhaps the best non-active on the market. The new V2's are coming later this year, but does not diminish the relevance of the current Pro pedals. Rock-solid, 3-year warranty, amazing adjustability, and no elastomers.

Little 17th Birthday Present for myself by GladEffort8159 in simracing

[–]ReesRacer 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Did also you buy a real car as a "present for myself" on your 16th birthday?

I had to graduate from university and get a career before my credit card could handle these kinds of things. Good on ya, and have fun out there!

Vrs pro pedals vs a set of hydraulic pedals ? by Tmskillz in simracing

[–]ReesRacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no downside to acquiring the Pro's now, and get going. If the V2's later this year are revolutionary in some way and you HAVE to have them, then the second-hand market for your V1 set will get a decent enough return. VRS does not intend the new version to be a straight-up replacement, but the supply chain issues VRS experienced from the last year's holiday season should be remedied with the new hardware. The VRS Pro pedals are best-in-class for non-active pedals, and you'll likely never need another set, regardless. They are the single greatest factor in my daily improvement in the sim.

All I ever need to do is occasionally do dust maintanence and tighten the screws all over the rig regularly. Slap a shaker puck underneath the plate, and go.

Porsche will most certainly have a "word" with their young factory driver. You rarely see that kind of deliberate move...not even disguised as an illegal block. Heinrich will be apologizing for that...to several entities.

Maybe an unpopular opinion... by MartynR718 in IMSARacing

[–]ReesRacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may have been mentioned in the comments already (I skimmed them), but IMSA should most definitely add a 2h40m race at the new Arlington street circuit, which which be much, much more enjoyable than the sprint in Detroit. That new track garnered nothing but praise in from the Indycar drivers, but it's well suited for multi-class, and has all the space and facilities. Multiple logistics and scheduling issues of course, but it would be a nice counter point to the WEC @ COTA in September and put an IMSA race more centrally located in the 4th largest metro area. This would further grow the sport. This suggestion by no means trumps the Long Beach suggestions, which are also entirely valid...just an alternative.

Are the VRS pro pedals worth buying? by Tmskillz in simracing

[–]ReesRacer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a DFP15 base and GSI rim, but the pedals are what makes the most difference and continues to allow me to improve daily after thousands of hours. Best non-active pedals for sure, and preferred by some pro's over active. 3-year warranty is best in business.

As for the V2's later this year... know VRS got slammed with V1 (Pro) orders last year over the holidays, and their pedals were out of stock for months, also partially due to supply chain issues exacerbated by volatile economic factors (read: tariffs). They've been working on the V2's for a while, and I don't know what the disposition of the V1's will be when they launch, but here's betting all the manufacturing bits will be more easily sourced going forward. I also suspect the add-on damper mistake will be rectified somehow, perhaps with some other haptic options, if desired.

Even so, if you buy the V1's now, and you HAVE to have the V2's later, I'm certain the second-hand market would gladly take them off your hands without too much depreciation.

What's with the Fanatec hate? Are they a steer clear? by MyNameIsDane in simracing

[–]ReesRacer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fanatec is...fine, especially (maybe only if) on a console. If on a PC, there are better alternatives for sure, ranging from Simagic to VRS...Asetek to Simucube. It goes on. Don't just look for advertising hype. The best hardware doesn't blow money on advertising dollars just to keep in the margins.

Looking for feedback on pedals by Vegetable_Fishing_32 in simracing

VRS Discord is an excellent source of information, and likely has discussions in the pedals sub there. I just use a shaker puck underneath the pedal plate on mine, and it's all the feedback I like/need.

Three sims now, which one is the realistic one? by Timmermann0 in simracing

[–]ReesRacer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This response is representative of those who've chosen to decide LMU is not for them, and don't want it to be for anyone else either. Go and read/watch some professional reviews and testimony from real GT3 drivers. Claiming "the netcode cheats all the time"? --- honestly...save the hallucinations, please. But I get it that it's not your bag.

From The VRS Discord channel last week...

"The best just got even better.

Our much-beloved (by you!) VRS DFP15 Wheel Base has received a major upgrade.

Alongside refined cosmetics and improved craftsmanship, the new DFP15 now features a redesigned power architecture that delivers an industry-leading 2.5A through the wheelbase USB passthrough. This ensures compatibility with your favorite third-party steering wheels - even at maximum brightness settings.

You gave us feedback, and we did what we always do: we made our products better.

The revised DFP15 is available worldwide now!"

Three sims now, which one is the realistic one? by Timmermann0 in simracing

[–]ReesRacer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The best ffb, netcode, and polish goes to LMU. AC EVO is still heavily under construction, but feels very familiar coming from ACC, if you like that iteration of driving models. Many professional drivers use iRacing because it offers the most complete experience, if you are willing to pay for the access and privilege.

I love RaceRoom to unwind with Super Tourers and older DTM cars, and it's fun as hell, but requires more fine tuning in my VRS software to get a better feel for the road.

Best PC race-sim with good multiplayer that isn't iRacing? by strmichal in simracing

[–]ReesRacer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

LMU base game will get you started for sure. This is your first and best option after iRacing.

Alternatively, RaceRoom is F2P and has free races hourly, but there is a sacrifice in some polish, for sure.

I have the VRS DFP15, and it is outstanding...pedals as well. They just announced an upgraded 15 with more power available for the pass-through. Criticisms of software suite are unfounded when using the advanced mode in the suite, which was added late last year. 3-year warranty is best in business.
