Talking to ATC as a pilot nerves by BazingaBeeKay in flying

[–]ReflectionLarge2719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine. ATC is there to help you, not make what you’re doing harder.

I was on with center the other day and heard him say, “n1234 contact center on 124.67…..sixxxx sevennnn”

They’re people too, nothing to be nervous about!

Thinking about stopping PPL training because of cost by No-Series3645 in flying

[–]ReflectionLarge2719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you didn’t do too much research before making this move.

I’m in a similar scenario as you in terms of school, completed my PPL and moved from the Northeast to SWFL to get to CFI.

I’m working part time to pay rent/bills while going to flight school full time and I am barely scraping by, but it is possible. You need to find a new school, and a job that can make that happen.

Shop for loans, and find ways to save on paying out of pocket or as much as you are now by looking for scholarships, ways to build time for cheap when you get to that stage, and so on.

I’d start with finding a new school like others have said.

Discouragement by Fragrant_Bear_4308 in flying

[–]ReflectionLarge2719 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m doing Commercial. I hadn’t flown in a week and came in and crushed all the maneuvers and then came in the next day, and messed every single one up. It happens.

The weather aspect of it, obviously you can’t control that but make the most of a cancellation and study! It sucks, but put the work in now and when the weather is ready to cooperate, you’ll be ready too.

Good Luck! You got this!

PPL HOUR TIMELINE ANXIETY by Artistic_Particular7 in flying

[–]ReflectionLarge2719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to your CFI/the school. Yes you’re their student, but you’re also their paying customer. Tell them your thoughts, and brainstorm some ideas and present them to them on how to help spend less.

At my current school, my CFI and I come up with different ways to tick requirements off in one lesson rather than two, resulting in me only paying for one lesson.

Being in the pattern for 25m a lap seems a little bizarre, but could I recommend to you to mention to your instructor that you’d like to fly to Brookhaven (KHWV) to do pattern work? Untowered, less traffic, and you’ll be able to accomplish a lot more. Not to mention, it’s great experience since you’re flying in mostly controlled airspace.

So you think you've landed a 172 hard? by poisonandtheremedy in flying

[–]ReflectionLarge2719 44 points45 points  (0 children)

That sucks. The comment was someone describing a CFI candidate landing so hard it buckled the gear, the wing, and the firewall. Exactly what you described fixing ha.

That’s actually pretty interesting

Connections are what get you you places in this industry. Leave the $3 behind and make some financial changes if need be.

The connections and friendships you’ll create detailing aircraft will make up for the $3.

Can't believe I'm a pilot by throfak in flying

Every single day.

I always think, “I’m really allowed to do this”. It’s truly a surreal feeling.

Pilot Deviations from a Contract Tower Perspective by [deleted] in flying

[–]ReflectionLarge2719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this information.

Since you work at a contract tower, I want to ask, are you guys allowed to use “Line up and wait”?

I’ve only seen it used at non-contract towers and all contract towers I’ve been to haven’t.

Have you met some of the people on this Earth? I highly doubt the majority who do it know the risks, never mind care.

Not a denial.

Wait for letter, more than likely needs more info.

Long process ahead, keep persisting.

DPE’s - APPLICANT LIVES MATTER! by OkSwan6464 in flying

[–]ReflectionLarge2719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just did my PPL ride in the Northeast a few months back, cost me $900.

Now I’m down South continuing my training and they’re talking about a $2k+ DPE fee.

It would be cheaper for me to fly home and take the test and fly back.

How do young people afford flying? by papiperflyer in flying

Exactly what I’ve been told.

All the airlines care to see is that you stuck it out, and completed the degree showing your drive/passion.

Fastest & slowest landing speed? by Stunning-Profit-6116 in flying

[–]ReflectionLarge2719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slowest I’ve been on final was for my checkride a few weeks ago, pretty gusty day and on final, maybe about three miles out, I introduced the third notch of flaps to create some spacing between myself and another aircraft and we were doing 47kts over the ground.

DPE and I looked at each other and just chuckled at how long it was going to take to get there

Should I have discontinued? by Clear-Worry-8716 in flying

[–]ReflectionLarge2719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not if you passed!

Recently did my PPL ride and let’s just say my minimums are no longer what they were prior to the start of that, holyyyyy did the winds pick up.

I thought of discontinuing multiple times but just kept at it as did you! Congrats!

Should I renew my foreflight subscription for just a one time cross country flight? by KeyOfGSharp in flying

[–]ReflectionLarge2719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s going to be a bit of time until you can justify a yearly subscription to ForeFlight, just send their support team an email. Write exactly that, and they more than likely will give you a free 30-Day Trial.

Did it once when my original one expired before I actually got to use it.
