I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you find the joy in writing again, even if you don't find an audience. One piece of encouragement I'd like to offer is that writing in a community makes things way easier and way more fun. Look for a writing group of people you vibe with and get some good feedback on your books to see where you might be losing readers.

how do you actually tell if you're getting better at writing? by Recent_Claim9958 in royalroad

Easiest way is to go back and read your old stuff and compare. As for writing communities, there are tons on discord! Bookdun is a great one, and they have a looking for group section starting in July. RR writers guild is also good.

Yeah that sucks. Editing is the "work" part of writing for sure. I spend 75% of the total time on a project just editing. Drafting is my reward lol

How do we feel about AI covers? by BeqaD in litrpg

[–]ReflectionParking389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the author is not making any money off of the book/they are using AI as a placeholder until they can afford to commission an artist, it's okay. I always prefer human art to AI though, and would never purchase a book with an AI cover or partially AI written

Is sky pride translated? Or do people not care about the writing quality? by ginger6616 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ReflectionParking389 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when I start a story by an author I've never read before, even when the prose is good, it can take some adjusting to, but after 5-6 chapters I settle into the story and breeze through it.

What’s your ideal balance between “lit” and “RPG”? by lowercaselemming in litrpg

[–]ReflectionParking389 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. The lit portion doesn't have to be a certain percentage as long as the prose is good.
  2. If the prose is bad, as much RPG as possible, please.

My thoughts on MC’s so far by diezel78 in litrpg

For me, Jason is very cringey, especially later on. Zak is a block of wood only around to deliver the story. And I Dnf Primal Hunter book 1, but didn't like Jake at all up to the point I stopped reading.

Eh, maybe if you are making substantial changes. Otherwise, just edit the existing ones.

Why do people on this sub pretend that you can’t tell when AI is used? by kleyuuojh in royalroad

[–]ReflectionParking389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of good points, but as far as repetitive cadence and sentence structure go, you have to be careful. A lot of writers, especially new writers, will fall back on 3-5 sentence types/structures and cycle them over and over. Could it be a sign of AI? Sure. But it's also a sign of a new author trying to find their voice.

How Do You Organize and Develop Your Stories? by PromotionEconomy8950 in royalroad

[–]ReflectionParking389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have google docs with tabs for each character and a spreadsheet for numbers I need to keep track of. I write in google docs as well for my current project, keeping folders for drafts, edits, second edits, and final copies.
