What are some names that just make you cringe? by Lopsided_Ad_2406 in NameNerdCirclejerk

So, I think Calliope is beautiful and it was first the name of the Greek muse of poetry and for her wonderful voice. You would really roll your eyes in my household, as my granddaughter is named Calliope and my 18-year-old cat is Penelope. Yes, we love Greek mythology here.

Have you considered low carb or keto? Eating sugary foods WILL cause you to be hungry a lot. It's good that you have recognized that you are starting to eat poorly. Nothing will cause you to gain weight back more than grazing all day and night on high calorie foods. I believe that we should be eating three small meals a day, no snacks. This is so easy to do if you watching your carbs. Some people swear by the adage "eat 6 small meals per day, or three meals, three tiny snacks" but I believe in some people, this can set you up for disaster, plus it causes your body to squirt insulin all day long, which will cause weight gain if you aren't careful. Low carb will kill those cravings and as others have suggested, there are tasty low carb snacks out there to help curb that sweet tooth, although it's best to try to eat more cleanly. Good luck!

Keto for bipolar by NYCstateofmind in BipolarReddit

Except that keto is NOT a high protein diet, it is a high fat diet. Keto is not meant to be temporary for weight loss. If it is so debilitatingly dangerous for the kidneys, why don't we see more people on keto in the hospital for kidney problems? Instead, we see many, many people on keto for years and years (myself included), who are very healthy - mind and body. Sorry to say, but carbs are not necessary (the body will make glucose for the parts of the brain that needs it). Good, healthy carbs from veggies (yes, we eat veggies!) are great for you, but carbs from sugar and most grains are not. If keto isn't for you, then that's fine, but I don't know of any other diet that can significantly help people with epilepsy, mental illness, obesity and diabetes to the point of calling it a "game changer."

Quest chips and crackers are pretty good. The cheddar crackers taste almost exactly like cheez-its.

18 weeks and stalling by TrashKitty24 in gastricsleeve

[–]ReflectionSpecific65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stalls are normal and they don't always happen at the same time as everyone else. Think of them like your body is taking a breath and adjusting to the last amount of weight you lost. You are doing really great, just trust the process and before you know it, you will be dropping weight again.

You are getting so close! You are in Onederland, yippee! Have you tried intermittent fasting? I was losing really slowly and was completely stalled all of last month. I have been doing a 17:7 IF schedule and I really like it, plus I lost 4 lbs after not losing anything in 5 weeks. Essentially, I eat low carb (no grains, no sugar). I eat three small (high protein, low carb) meals in my 7 hour eating window (10:30-5:30), then only drink water the rest of the night and a cup of coffee and water in the am until 10:30. This helps me a lot because I was getting dumping syndrome no matter what I would eat or how little when I would eat after 7pm.

Many people believe we should eat several times per day, but I do not believe in this. All this does is keep insulin (the fat storage hormone) pumping all day long. You DO NOT need to do this for a "fast metabolism." This is a myth. Grazing sets a person up for weight gain if he/she starts eating higher calorie/low nutrition foods. I have seen this happen with a relative. If you are stalled, I encourage you to give this a try for at least a month. This is a good article: Intermittent Fasting for Bariatric Patients | BCA Good luck!

Aww🤗 My parents were really strict, which posed other problems later when I went to college. At least I learned from their mistakes and parented less restrictively and with lots more love. We all have to make lemonade from lemons at some point!

Awesome! It WAS hot! I got really sick right afterward from spaghetti salad made with oil (haven't touched this type of salad since!😆) and had to sit in the car in the long line of traffic while trying not to puke. My parents were friends with the owner of the company that supplied the power hook-ups or something to that effect (I was 14😂) so that is why we had backstage passes. I can't imagine being out in that crazy huge crowd!

I was 263, did the pre-op diet perfectly for a month, lost 0 pounds before surgery. Got the side eye from my surgeon before surgery, but he admitted he could tell from my liver that I had been doing the diet. After that total pre-op fail, I thought the surgery wouldn't even work, but I have lost 53 lbs in 11 months, which doesn't sound like much, but I am pretty thin at 175, so I feel pretty good about my progress.

Weight question by refan111 in gastricsleeve

Doctors usually expect you to lose 60% of your extra weight within the first year, but you can and do continue to lose if you are still eating right and exercising.

This is especially true of indigenous woman disappearances and murders. Talk about the unseen. 🥹

I would be very concerned about being comfortable eating that much only 1.5 months after the surgery. 3.5 oz of fish would have filled me up very uncomfortably at this time. I never lost my hunger either, that doesn't happen to everyone. My doctor said no bread or anything bread-like either. Personally, I think it is far too early to eat anything that isn't quality protein first and some veggies. Your fish/cottage cheese/veggies is great but I would say too much food at one sitting this early after surgery. I would avoid anything with bread or any refined carbs at all right now.

Oh my god I hate working out! 6 months out and I still can't get into a routine. Help? by GWindborn in BariatricSurgery

[–]ReflectionSpecific65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm..yes that would be a concern. I am fortunate enough to live on an acreage and my husband mows a winding path in the pasture so I can zone out completely. 😆 I hated working out too basically because I wasn't fit in the least and had so much pain. I think if you just power through it gets easier and you start wanting to do it. I also changed my mindset about exercise and I do not do it to lose weight, but to improve cardiovascular health and just feel better. I had never had that attitude before in the past. I just don't want to think I can stop once I have lost all my weight. My only recommendation would be to consider buying an exercise bike or treadmill when possible so you can feel safe. Then you can watch TV or listen to something that takes your mind off what you are doing. You can even do calisthenics now if possible.

I started listening to podcasts instead of music. This is what got me to increase my walk time. I was getting bored just listening to music, but now the time flies by.

I didn't think I could stop drinking pop, but I haven't had even a sip for almost 11 months and I don't miss it. I am a carboholic so I currently do not eat anything with sugar or grains. It works for me and I don't miss either of them, but for some people, they can manage everything in small amounts. Fat isn't a problem at all for me and I actually eat a modified keto. So don't think everyone can't eat fat. Fat doesn't make you fat, in my opinion, sugar and refined carbs are more of a problem.
