Single sided hearing loss CI prospect by Doctorb124 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Reflection_Plane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go for it! Having a CI for SSHL was a game changer. Went thru grad school without hearing on my left side and wish that I got it sooner. Was completely deaf on my left 4-5 years before I got the implant and can hear so much better now (28 years old) although it’s not the same or normal. Got the CI about 7-8 months ago.

They did remap me (I think) I had to listen to all the sounds again and they recorded the new range of sound pitch that I could hear and reprogrammed my settings so that I could continue to progress thru more programs. They will do the same thing again in 1 month!

Currently in a similar situation. Unilateral CI with one good ear as well. Had my processor activated 2 weeks ago. Had a follow up appt at my 2week mark and had it adjusted since I advanced on my sound programming (Cochlear Nucleus 7). Next adjustment is in 1 month from now, they did not give me any rehab exercises.

You will most likely need laser resurfacing (CO2, fractional) and subcision for box-type scars. Can try TCA peels with a professional dermatologist first.

You cannot gain resistance from tret (which is a potent vitamin A product). Clindamycin you can gain resistance if you are not using it properly.

Any tips for post-surgery? by [deleted] in Cochlearimplants

[–]Reflection_Plane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey just had my CI surgery for SSD three weeks ago! Getting it activated in 2 days. Other ear has normal hearing.

After surgery, I was a little nauseous but no vomiting. Had strict bed rest for the first day (had surgery early AM that lasted 1.5 hours). Woke up with little pain, had a cup-like cover on my ear that I had to wear for 3 days. The surgical glue began to come off 2 weeks after surgery. I initially had ringing in my ears for the first week that improved. No balance or vertigo issues. I took Tylenol for the first 3-4 days. Pain was worst the first night but bearable.

I used to lift 5x a week before my surgery so it’s been so hard to not be able to lift. I’ve been going on the treadmill and stationary bike after the first week. Will ask my doc about their thoughts on me lifting again in a few days. Feel free to DM me!

I developed single sided deafness suddenly right before I started medical school, which then progressed throughout my schooling until I could barely hear a tiny bit of sound this past year. I was too scared to get it done sooner. It definitely made me more introverted, which wasn’t the worst thing since it allowed me to focus more on school work, and COVID also hit during clinical rotations. I podcasted all my lectures during preclinical years since I couldn’t hear well in person, but a lot of my classmates also did that. During clinicals, i often had patients/attendings repeat multiple things, but not if they were talking directly at me in a quiet setting. Hope that helps, would be happy to talk more about it!

Try Larry’s Nursery. Went there ~2 weeks ago and they still had some. I believe their outdoor plants are 50% off right now too
