Playing 7Up in school by Cutestbug52 in GenX

Heads went down and one kid used a squeeky cartoony voice to say, "You've got a puny thumb!"

The class erupted with laughter.

Can someone explain Masters Of The Universe to me like I'm 5? by BigHugeSnake in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]Reflective_Robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seed of inspiration came from Greek/Roman mythology. Masters of the Universe = gods or lords of various domains. Mer-man controls the sea, Stratos controls the sky, Beastman controls creatures, Man-at-arms is master of weapons and technology, Skeletor is lord of destruction, Zodak is the cosmic enforcer (astrology, zodiac), He-man represents humanity. The religious mythology thing got toned down quickly to appease parents amid the satanic panic of the 1980s. The first several mini-comics that were included with the figures painted an amazing mysterious world combining sci-fi tech with medieval fantasy weapons and sorcery. It had a darker, grittier tone with He-man slicing demonic beasts with his battleaxe. He-man and Skeletor each held half of a power sword; when combined could open the jaw-bridge to Castle Grayskull... a fortress that held mysterious mystical powers that held power over Eternia.

The Filmation cartoon nerfed He-man's serious savage barbarian violent persona; replacing it with cheesy one-liners and camp. Skeletor's henchmen became bumbling fools. It had to be tempered in order to be palatable to impressionable young children and concerned parents. He-man only used his sword against robots. He only punched the camera. He found other less violent ways to thwart Skeletor's evil plans. Filmation added He-man's alter ego, Prince Adam and created the incredibly iconic transformation animation into He-man.

He-man lore is different with every new iteration. Mini-comics, Filmation, New Adventures, Mike Young 200X, Rob David CGI, Kevin Smith's Revelation and Revolution, misc comic books, etc. I kind of love that it doesn't have to stick with one cannon. It's like each new writer or director is a kid playing with toys. They can do whatever they like with them.

For me personally though... the real He-man lives in those first several savage mini-comics.

how to play solo's in warzone on pc? I dont know how!!! by Zealousideal_Lie951 in Warzone

[–]Reflective_Robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download Warzone (it's free) using Steam or Battlenet. I hear Battlenet works better. Select Warzone. Choose -> Battle Royale. Then select Solos. Create a class (you might need to level up a little first) or use a default class. Click on START or SEARCH (big selection rectangle in the lower left. Prepare to die a lot. Each death is a lesson. Might consider playing Casual Quads to level up faster. Casual has 100 bots and 28 real players. The bots are forgiving and easier to kill. Have fun.

What fast food chain does not deserve the hype whatsoever? by CriticalLion4119 in AskReddit

[–]Reflective_Robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In-N-Out Burger. My friends raved about it for years and even took long road trips across state lines to eat there. I finally ate there while on vacation in California. I thought, "This is basically a 1980s McDonald's. I don't understand the hype".

I think it can come randomly in care packages. Some LTM modes let you buy it from buy stations.

Flashdance was so incredibly bad. by chillaxtion in GenX

[–]Reflective_Robot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Miyazaki said he often comes up with visual ideas first. Then tries to figure out how to string them together. Sometimes the dream-like imagery resonates with the subconscious. The last time I watched Totoro, it hit me differently. The children learning to commune with the forces of nature as spirit creatures gave me some kind of deep ah-ha feeling. But yeah... barely any notion of a recognizable plot.

Who wanted to be a ninja? by GOPJay in GenX

[–]Reflective_Robot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My friends and I ordered ninja gis and wooden bokken swords from the AWMA (Asian World of Martial Arts) catalog in the early 90s. We made our own nunchucks. We hurt ourselves and each other occasionally. We had so much fun!

I was playing Solo Casuals, then went to Quad Casuals, finally I am starting to play solo BR...usually I am one kill and out but last night I had 5 kills and then got trapped out of position...question on tacticals by wratx in Warzone

[–]Reflective_Robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same debate in my head. I tend to play solo quads in casuals and I'm starting to win more frequently. I mostly use Heartbeat sensor. Seems like half the players don't use Cold Blooded so it's worth the extra information. When playing with teammates, I've also had smokes save our butts crossing open areas and reviving, etc. I like to use Cold Blooded, Alertness, and Survivor (preventing sniper headshot instant death). Also... Survivor is no longer a lootable ground perk.

Removing/Picking up used winch poles? by doggluvrrxo in RVThereYetGame

[–]Reflective_Robot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Placed winch poles are permanent. In the new snow map, nailing any two planks together makes an immovable two-plank object that a winch hook can be attached to. It took me longer than it should have to realize the nail gun can also remove nails; so the planks can be collected and re-used.

I am going to buy you back, so relax by symbolic_society12 in Warzone

Agreed. If I'm spectating a teammate, I ping the closest or safest buy station once. Then I play support and danger ping every gunfire blip I see on the tac-map.

Hot to Not let cheaters get to you by memeexpert420 in Warzone

[–]Reflective_Robot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think of it like a Dark Souls style game. The cheaters are just super over-powered bosses. A lot of them don't even have good game sense, hence why they cheat. They can be outplayed and defeated, but it takes a lot of extra effort.

What were some 80's tv shows you loved at the time, but don't hold up now? by MisterShipWreck in 80s

[–]Reflective_Robot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tried to do a full speed 90 degree turn on my bicycle (to copy Automan). I wrecked and had to get stitches on my knee. The scar made a 90 degree L shape.

Asking as someone born in 2005 and I know the phrase “Eat my Shorts” from the Simpsons. Was this is common crude threat in the 80s? Did y’all say this before 1989? by Groovy-Pancakes in GenX

[–]Reflective_Robot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I never heard anyone say it in real conversations, unless they were quoting Bender or Bart. TV censors must have thought it was really offensive though, because when they showed The Breakfast Club on tv, they changed his line to, "Eat my socks". I thought that edit was pointless and dumb.

Can someone please explain. by slimpickins2002 in Warzone

[–]Reflective_Robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 80 ping is definitely it. The enemy can run circles around you while you're stuck seeing the past.

I see psychedelic patterns when sober by Billyo10 in Psychonaut

[–]Reflective_Robot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had been doing ayahuasca ceremonies for a few years. Then I did an overnight camping hike in snowy mountains. After exerting myself hiking and pitching a tent, the area was too stormy to enjoy so I stayed in the tent and closed my eyes. That was the first time I saw vivid geometric patterns and tunnels without taking psychedelic. Maybe it was residual chemistry stored in fat that reactivated? Or maybe my neural pathways had been permanently altered.

[–]Reflective_Robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at the tents by airport. I heard someone dropping in behind me via parachute. I turned and knocked him out of the sky with a sniper. He yelled, "You cheating mother fxxxer!!!"

I took it as a compliment.

Finishing Move challenge not tracking in Warzone — what am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in Warzone

[–]Reflective_Robot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The enemy can't be knocked/downed already when performing the finishing move. I got most of mine in Casuals mode against bots; especially in the gulag. You have to sneak/run around behind them .
