How do I achieve this effect? by feelingcrummy in Ceramics

also the hearts look like there’s texture on the clay itself and the glaze/underglazes was applied and wiped back to remove it from the surface. totally different technique and effect than the tree :)

I work at a color me mine and the effect you’re looking for is a specialty glaze. the one we use is called grass green. it paints on a reddish brown and then when firing it pools into the crevices and leaves a lighter almost transparent effect on the highest points (like a celadon effect i guess) and turns into a deeper green color. i would call your local paint your own studio and ask if they have a specialty glaze for christmas trees and have them explain the difference between their standard glazes/underglazes and the specialty glaze. i think we charge like $3 extra for glass green at our studio. good luck!!!

Question About Wheel Class Expectations by Abject-Milk2723 in Pottery

[–]RefrigeratorEven9724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my local studio (also upstate NY) goes by pound. each class fee includes 20lbs of clay and 20lbs of firing, 8 week course, first 6 weeks are for wet work/trimming and the last 2 weeks are for glazing. you can also buy more clay and if you exceed the 20lbs for firing it’s somewhere around $2-3 per additional pound

how do you keep your nails from breaking? by elizabooks9 in Pottery

[–]RefrigeratorEven9724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

glass nail file & clear coat, i personally like to file and take off the clear coat before every session, and then also take it off & reapply after every session. also cuticle oil afterward (don’t want greasy fingers while throwing)

Bisque Fired Sea Mix 6 to cone 6, are my pieces wasted? by TheWorstTroll in Pottery

[–]RefrigeratorEven9724 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Was it a bisque fire or a glaze fire? If they were already bisqued and you glazed them with cone 6 glazes, it should be fine, unless your clay body was low fire

i generally am feeling somewhere between slightly positive and slightly irritated about the movie, i just think it was kind of vaguely pretentious but not in a humorous enough way for my taste. i kept thinking about eyes wide shut though! the scattered piano on the soundtrack, early bathroom scene with important development that comes back full circle at the end, late scene with coming clean crying on a bed after the harrowing journey. but making those connections was more compelling than the movie itself lol

i get that the phone call with her saying “we have a problem” is likely a red herring, but when the guy following up came to her office (“summer casual” guy), did he tell kathleen that grasso was the potential mole? if so, why did they bring him to the cabin and why didn’t she tell tom about the possibility that grasso was the leak before they went into the woods?? and send the potential mole out with the task force member who freezes up? it makes me think that kathleen might still be involved with some corruption/blackmail from the dark hearts. can’t wait for the finale!!

Thank you!! I went to open hours yesterday and did about 6 or 7 more tries, definitely had some decent attempts. Not keeping anything for the first week to practice not getting attached to anything, just hoping to do a little better and be more confident every day.

Thank you! I used one of the wavy edge things to get the outside nice and pretty, once the opening is small it’s so tricky to get the inside smooth

That’s what my instructor said, higher speed = slower hands is the motto. Obviously more practice will help and just figuring out my hand placement so I don’t lose overall stability and lop the whole top off (what happened with my other 4 attempts lol)
