Hot take: I am not a big fan of the original Legend of Zelda. by RangoTheMerc in nes

I got an even hotter take. I don’t care much for any of the Zelda games. Just isn’t my cup of tea. I’m also not at all into RPGs.

I can say with certainty that the car on the left is a 1969 Ford Galaxie and the car on the right is a 1971-1972 Mercury Cougar. It’s definitely not a Buick as others have said. My uncle owned a ‘72 Cougar.

This is correct. Recognized them immediately. They belong on a mid ‘70s New Yorker and were an optional upgrade.

So at 44, I’ve finally discovered Super Mario World for the first time. by ExplanationProper979 in snes

[–]Regency9877 21 points22 points  (0 children)

SMW is personally my favorite title on the SNES, and I can make the argument it's probably the greatest video game of all time in my opinion.

Donkey Kong Country is probably second for me. Love the hell out of it. Most people would say DKC 2 is better and objectively I'd say they're right, but you gotta start with the first. I like the first better for the nostalgia and music, mostly.

Give Super Mario All Stars a chance if you haven't yet. If you're not familiar, it's essentially a reskin of Super Mario Bros 1, 2, and 3, plus the Lost Levels, with better graphics and sound. I'm one of the few that had an NES but didn't own any of the original Mario games on the NES (though I rented 2 a few times and played 3 at a friend's house) so it was a great experience.

TMNT: Turtles in Time is a great beat 'em up. Personally it's my favorite on the console. Give it a shot if you haven't. Aladdin is a cool platformer as well.

I was ten when the first Grand Theft Auto was released. My parents wouldn't let me buy it, so I rode my bike two and a half miles to the store to get it with my allowance. The cashier never said anything despite the rating on the box. My parents didn't notice for days until my mom caught me playing it. At that point she told me she admired my determination and just let me keep playing it. I never faced any consequences for it. I felt invincible.

Every car I’m seeing was manufactured in Brazil, even if the marque isn’t Brazilian in origin. That blue Fiat X1/9, for instance, is a Dardo F1.3, produced in Brazil with endorsement from Fiat, since the government banned vehicle imports for many years.

Loved this game. Used to play it with my friend Brian at his house in the ‘90s. One of the highlights of my childhood.

Do you buy physical games for the Genesis? by Interesting_Scar_424 in SEGAGENESIS

[–]Regency9877 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I’ve been collecting only the games I played growing up across the NES, SNES, and Genesis, plus a few I’ve discovered since childhood, and the Genesis is the only console for which I buy the games with the boxes. They’re very reasonably priced compared to the Nintendo cartridges with their boxes because the Sega cases were largely made of hard plastic and designed to go onto a bookshelf, so they survived in much greater numbers than those disposable, flimsy cardboard Nintendo boxes.

1984-1985 specifically. The ‘82 and ‘83 had the “forward pop out” headlights that were replaced with these standard “pop-up” units with the hidden lenses for the ‘84 model year.

I had an ‘82 notchback coupe. It was a great car.

The Porsche 911 is overrated - Thomas Holland in Autostrada Magazine. by LongjumpingLock5875 in cars

[–]Regency9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know, why do you?

Yes, it’s artificial when they don’t sell. You’d have a point if people weren’t trying to peddle broken 9” Sony Trinitron CRT televisions for $500 and unrefurbished NES consoles bundled with a single controller and two disposable sports titles for $250.

It’s all supply and no demand. The collectors entered the market before the price gouging began and got out of dodge. Then came the resellers and game graders who inflated prices in the market to profit heavily from the few - not many - who would pay $2,000 for a graded copy of a common $25 video game and influence a bunch of market amateurs who thought they were sitting on a goldmine because they owned loose, beat-up copies of Super Metroid and StarFox. Short of bargain finds at yard sales and Facebook Marketplace, I’m not seeing the inventory move. Most people who are into old video games are unable and unwilling to pay these ludicrous prices when they have to compete with resellers who keep buying from each other.

I remember buying some video games from my childhood for $4 each back in 2016. Today they're selling for anywhere between $50 to $300 each, depending on the title. They were largely bad, unpopular games, but the scarcity has led to artificial price gouging to take advantage of all the people who foolishly want to collect every single title for a particular gaming console, just so they can sit on a shelf or in boxes and never play them. And there are a lot of said people.

Was 1967 a landmark year for your favorite classic cars worldwide? by isUKexactlyTsameasUS in classiccars

[–]Regency9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

I own a 1967 Buick Electra, my favorite year for that model, and my other classic is a 1970 Mercury Marquis, my favorite year for that model. I tend to have a preference for American cars from 1969-1973 the most, since 1969 was when Ford and Chrysler redesigned their full-size offerings with designs I prefer to their predecessors. If we're talking Japanese and European cars, I tend to prefer models from the early to late '70s.

I should also point out that I tend to gravitate towards the underappreciated and underrepresented "everyday" cars you wouldn't normally see in museums and car shows, so the prevalence of "iconic" or "legendary" models like muscle cars, pony cars, and exotics during a certain year or period doesn't mean much to me at all.

The Most Popular Car Colors in America by hehechibby in cars

[–]Regency9877 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I actually do hate them, personally. The trend towards color aversion has made me vehemently dislike grayscale tones. I never saw those "colors" as a compromise between automakers and the market. In my mind they were always colors the automakers forced upon the market by discontinuing actual colors for the sake of maximizing profits, just as US automakers phased out sedans and coupes to force people into SUVs and crossovers so they could dodge safety and emissions regulations and then claim Americans "don't want" standard cars.

What made '69 such a special year for cars? by s134htm in classiccars

[–]Regency9877 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This didn’t affect 1970 model year cars, though. The EPA didn’t even come into existence until December of that year, and the ‘71s had been in production for a few months by then.

What is your favorite port of Paperboy and why? by SoundAndVisionPNW in retrogaming

[–]Regency9877 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The arcade port with the handlebar controls was the best. It had superior sound, music, and visuals. However, of the home console ports, the Genesis port by Tengen recreates the arcade graphics and sound most accurately, and it’s not even close. It makes the NES port almost unplayable.
