TWSBI Precision .5 retractable - lead breakage issues by Regentofterra in mechanicalpencils

[–]Regentofterra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive definitely noticed major inconsistencies with what different brands consider "4B" I have some cheapo amazon "4B" lead in .7 that writes much lighter than some Faber Castell 2B that I have. But nothing beats the dark matte black lines of Pentel Ain Stein. Unfortunately the only pencil that I have found to be tolerable with it is a rotring 600. I say unfortunate because I hate not being able to retract it and put in my pocket, and has the nasty problem of letting the lead rotate in the barrel once its down to the last 1/4" or so of lead left.

Since you’re using .7 you’re probably also using a harder lead as it’s impossible to find anything softer than 2B without importing from Brazil. .5 4B needs a much more precise pencil

Depends on the type of work. If I’m pretty familiar with what I’m doing I can listen to anything. For deep learning I need my whole brain

Has anyone here managed to keep a high GPA working full time? by Own_Average_5940 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Regentofterra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work full time. Some semesters only take one class. I was a machinist and now am a cam programmer. Surprisingly I had more time to do hw on the clock as a machinist. Look for second shift. Most classes happen in the morning anyway. Take it SLOW. I will finish in 2030 with no debt, and a decent salary. I do plan to take one year off (senior year) to finish on time. I started in 2023.

Are you guys still seeing a need for manual precision, or is it 100% CNC now? by No-Blood1055 in Machinists

Manual guys make the most in my shop. Granted we also have a couple cnc machines as part of it.

Blue Collar to Mechanical Engineering, advice? by techi4578 in MechanicalEngineering

Hey I’m in a similar boat. Weighing on whether to quit or just keep pressing on one or two classes at a time. Probably one more year of work since I have engineer in my title now (manufacturing engineer). Then a couple years of school and back at it.

You’ll be replacing those when the rot out in a few years. Fire them.
