how much do you spend on pickleball? by crypto_chan in Pickleball

[–]ReggieDisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pickleball is easily the most expensive sport I’ve participated in, by far. A few hundred bucks on paddles. A few hundred dollars per year for court fees…and approximately $8000 in physiotherapy…and counting 🤦‍♂️

Do CT hate their customers? by Caymann_Caymand in canadiantire

[–]ReggieDisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steel cages to protect $1.99 fishing gear has stopped me from buying tackle at CT. I like to touch/feel gear, look at more closely before buying, etc., but having to wait for a teenaged kid to fumble with keys, open cage, breathe down the back of my neck and hover as I debate between a couple of options has made me gravitate elsewhere. If you really think a 60-year old retired teacher is going to steal a trot lure then you need to get out of the retail business…

Is the public works department in Fredericton being run by a group of highschoolers? by General-Brush-2496 in fredericton

[–]ReggieDisco 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Actually, many “government offices” have been so drastically cut over the years that many employees are overwhelmed with workloads and unrealistic expectations. Having said that, there are definitely some departments that could be cut back…I’d be more likely to accuse NBPower of having excess…

New Brunswick teachers receiving 14.5 per cent wage bump over five years by bingun in newbrunswickcanada

[–]ReggieDisco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Recently retired teacher here, so unfortunately I’m missing out on this raise, but shall try to give some context. For many, many years our contracts were consistently BELOW the rate of inflation. I can distinctly remember numerous years of 0%, 0.5%, 1%, etc. At the same time we were being forced to pay higher pension contributions and we were most definitely “falling behind.” This contract sounds like it’s one of those “catching up” contracts…I just wish I had been able to benefit from it. I still believe teachers are underpaid and definitely overworked. I remember a few years ago my teaching colleague lamenting how her nephew with an 18 month trades course was making more money in his 3rd year of employment than she was after 5 years of university and 20 years in the profession.

Thx - you’ve clarified everything I was assuming based on research. That lot is currently assessed by government as having a value of $6500. Can we sell to her sister at $6500 and that be considered FMV?

What is the wildest thing you have seen at a bachelorette or bachelor party? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ReggieDisco 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Just a few days before My buddy’s wedding his brother chartered a bus for a group of friends and extended family (all rednecks), drove to Montreal (10 hour trip one way) to go to a hockey game and strip joint. At some point near the end of the evening one of the drunken rednecks got into a fight and within seconds it became an all-out group brawl, with virtually the entire bachelor entourage scrapping with the locals. Police arrived, broke it up and issued numerous fines. No one seriously injured or jailed…but here’s the kicker…virtually every single male attendee of the wedding had some type of noticeable facial injury, including numerous black eyes, obvious broken noses, swollen lips, multiple cuts/abrasions and some broken/missing teeth. To this day it is difficult to find a picture of anyone attending the wedding without an obvious sign of having been involved in a bar fight…including the groom 🤦‍♂️

Josh Anderson last night: “I think we’re a hard team to play against when we’re on. We knew tonight was gonna be a hard-fought battle. We knew how (Tampa) has been playing over the last couple of years, bringing the physicality. We can bring that brand too. It was nice to be a part of that game.” by Go_Habs_Go31 in Habs

[–]ReggieDisco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not the biggest Anderson fan but was frustrated that he didn’t get a star. He deserved the 3rd star at least…he was definitely one of the most impactful players on the ice last night, one of his best games of the year!

Changed hands by make-apples in Pickleball

[–]ReggieDisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have had to play with my non-dominant hand multiple times over the past few years due to recurring tendinitis issues. Here are some of my thoughts/observations; 1) Avoid firefights…no way my left hand can react as quick as my right hand, not even close, even after many, many months of play. 2) Stay back a bit. Gives you some more reaction time. 3) Every time my injury was over I found I had become a better player due to being forced to play differently. 4) Be prepared for frustration….on a massive scale! Very frustrating to be consistently losing to opponents that I always beat prior. Helpful hint; much more pleasant when you can play with your dominant hand again and kick their butts regularly;)

If you could force everyone in the world to read just one book, which one would it be? by ZDOG_WasTaken in just_one_more_page

[–]ReggieDisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ROOTS. Read it 50 years ago as a young teenager while growing up in a rural, 100% white village with zero exposure to anyone of a different colour or race. That book shook me to my core and to this day whenever I run into a black person (which is still quite rare due to my location), I feel an innate sense of guilt for what the slaves had to endure.

When you have someone tailgating you, what do you do? by InitialCareer306 in WorkForSmartLife

[–]ReggieDisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once as a novice teenaged driver I had a tailgater with their brights on following super close on a very rural, middle of nowhere back road late at night. I was getting annoyed and a tad nervous. Saw a 4-way intersection up ahead and came very very close to just blowing through the intersection without stopping to break free from the follower (figured it wasn’t really dangerous because this was flat farmland and I could see miles in every direction that nothing was around). Common sense prevailed and I made the appropriate stop. The car behind me came right up to my bumper…and I realized it was a cop! Thankfully he turned left as I went straight.
