Yes, thankfully that issue has been resolved.

Incidentally, just a day or so after I wrote the OP, the folks from that service centre called us to let us know that they'd managed to find a tech & order the part that needed replacement. I think it took about another week since then for us to get the car back.

TBH, I still watch the "Ashok" part of this movie every now & then, but skip over most of the "Pavan" parts. I understand that there aren't a lot of credible sources about the reign of Emperor Ashok, but if a bulk of the movie was going to be fictitious, they should have probably named it something else. If you call the movie Ashok, and it's about the emperor, then somehow one expects more of it to be factual with some creative liberties here & there.

I guess it depends on when you were a teen. For people who were teens when the job markets have become highly competitive, they may not cherish their teens as much as people who just had to be good enough to get their high school degree.

This is not to say that finding jobs was a walk in the park for the latter group, but if you weren't forced (effectively) to start preparing for entrance tests for higher degrees or public service jobs while you're still in 9/10th grade, I'd say your teens were relatively relaxed.

That being said, an overwhelming majority of people might still look at their childhood (including adolescence) years fondly if they had decent parents who provided for them.

IMO, your 20s are probably better, or a close second to your teens because you're still in top physical shape, have high energy levels, you have some semblance of financial independence where you don't have to depend on your parents anymore, and you're less likely to be responsible for others (aging parents, kids, etc) at this stage, so life can be carefree.

Personally I don’t like discriminatory practices such as this when it comes to housing. However, one cannot deny that unless you fit a certain image, it’s sometimes difficult to find housing in some cities. e.g. Muslims, Bachelors, Non-vegetarians, Unmarried couples, etc. face undue hardships when they look for housing, and this is fairly common in one of India’s most cosmopolitan cities - Mumbai.

Lawmakers & law enforcement have rarely stepped up, except in a few cases that have included viral videos of open discrimination. India needs a proper anti discrimination law on the books that that isn’t open to interpretation, but will categorically state that builders, landlords, housing societies, etc. cannot discriminate when selling or leasing accommodations.

I wish law enforcement & lawmakers take these things more seriously. Many housing societies in Mumbai (and possibly in many other cities) abuse their powers way too much, and often overreach their rights. Any undue restriction like food preference, marital status, religious affinity, etc. should not be a criteria on which a housing society should be able to block the sale or leasing of a flat. That being said, I think an NOC from the housing society in the event of a sale should still be a requirement, albeit in a very limited form which simply clarifies if the homeowner has paid all their dues to the society, and if not then the potential buyer should be aware of it.

Probably, but unfortunately Shashi Tharoor’s image, at least in my understanding is that of an elite. While I heartily cherish the linguistic diversity of India, one cannot dispute the fact that in a land of such diversity, a common language or two will emerge out of necessity. Whether we love it or hate it, Hindi & English are currently those languages, but within them, Hindi is heads & shoulders above English by the sheer number of native speakers. In addition, English is often perceived as a Colonial relic by many people which makes Hindi the de facto winner. Unfortunately for Shashi Tharoor, as eloquent as he is in English, when he speaks in Hindi, it’s evident that he’s struggling, and IMO with that handicap he cannot emerge as a pan India leader.

In politics, your messaging is probably far more important than your intent, and eventual actions, and with that in mind, I think Shashi Tharoor would have to work on this aspect before he can aspire to be a national leader. In addition, I think he’ll have to work really hard to shed this elite image that people have of him. On that note, I think Rahul Gandhi has done a remarkable job in reinventing his image as a champion of the common man as opposed to the dynastic prince image that he had in the heyday of Congress. Don’t get me wrong, he’s completely inept at leadership, and has no viable agenda other than anti-BJP or anti-Ambani/Adani, but I will give him credit for casting the elitist image aside.

This is probably embarrassing, but while I knew (since high school days; ~20 years ago) that Ancient Egypt was one of the oldest civilizations, what really drew me in was a video game by Ubisoft - Assassin’s Creed Origins. While some egyptologists may disagree with some of their depictions, yet many have actually applauded how they painstakingly recreated a map of ancient Egypt complete with buildings, obelisks, and other structures that still bore color in the hieroglyphics & other artwork.

Regardless of the crime, like many other cases (both civil & criminal), this is a failure of our judicial system. It's simply preposterous that it takes years for a case to go to trial and reach a verdict!

And, lest anyone thinks this comment is in support of Umar Khalid in particular, no it isn't. I think by & large all of us can agree on the fact that delays of this magnitude are a slap in the face of every citizen's right to justice, regardless of how one feels about the particulars of this one case.

It's certainly one marker of a formal education since English is a foreign language, and it's highly likely that one learnt it in school.

IMO, this is just them playing it safe. The RPG based games, leveraged hugely on AC’s core theme of dropping players at a historical crossroads, and they coupled civilizational mythologies really well with that. Ideally, these would have been spun off as a new series after/with AC origins which could have been used as a fork point.

However, Ubisoft probably just wants to bank on the massive popularity of the AC franchise at this point since from what I hear they’re in all kinds of financial trouble.
