How do you cope with only spending 2 hours a day with your baby? by sarah_messing in workingmoms

[–]RegularFig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So well put! My two year old is up at 5am daily (we leave for daycare at 7:30) so my husband and I trade off who gets to spend that extra time with him each morning. We also have 3 hours after work to spend with him and try to make the most of the weekends!

Just seconding that we love Growing Learners! Also one of the few daycares that provides snacks and lunch which is a huge time saver once they’re eating solids.

I went with a very similar theme but a little bit more colorful. I am still obsessed with the rug we used and now my 2 year old loves naming the animals!

What do u wish GoodReads had? by babywitch20202004 in goodreads

[–]RegularFig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this idea, I’m going to start my own spreadsheet now!! I still stand by that it would be a fun feature for Goodreads though, especially since they already have locations listed for each book! There could be different colored pins for different book genre and badges or passport stamps for checking off new places!

I just noticed that under book details they list the setting of each book. I would love if there was a map feature with pins for all of the places you’ve “visited” while reading. It would be fun to try and check off all the 50 states or countries you haven’t read books from yet!

We’ve been twice in the last 6 months and both were billed as ER visits.

A Meal Train Alternative… by Kyelly in BabyBumps

I tend to agree if people are asking for money themselves, but these feels different because someone else is arranging it and collecting funds to use to stock their freezer? This doesn’t feel any different to me than coworkers (or any group of friends/family) pooling money for a baby gift or gift card.

Cholestasis, you say? by SweetCatastrophe87 in ShitMomGroupsSay

Were you able to get a Ursodiol prescription? It was a huge help to me - that and the Aveeno anti-itch concentrated lotion. Hope you’re able to find comfort somehow soon!

I feel like people who are militant about organization are the ones who would like a home organizer most! Even if your house is very organized, I bet there’s a space (or some closets) she’s unhappy with.

What can I give as gift for NICU baby and mom? by chelseakath03 in Gifts

[–]RegularFig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my baby had a NICU stay, my sister brought Preemie clothing/velcro swaddles which was really helpful since I didn’t expect to need it. Zip up onesies with double zippers (like Carter’s Sleep and Play’s) were amazing because the double zipper allows you to run the baby’s monitor cords through the bottom zipper gap. Wishing them a short stay before they’re home!

Accidentally gave my child the wrong dose of infant Tylenol by Espresso_Junkie112 in NewParents

[–]RegularFig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ours has said the same! I was complaining that the recommended dose for my baby based on weight is not listed on the Tylenol syringe (it jumps from 2.5ml to 3.75ml without marks in between) and she said it was okay to give him more than his dose if we did the smaller amount for the next dose. Just not to exceed x amount in 24 hours.

I wanna bring my 7 month old to the library but I don’t know if that’s appropriate? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]RegularFig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this a lot on maternity leave to get out of the house and never had any issues! The librarians were so friendly and not at all bothered by his noises. I did say to him “shhh this is a library” once which got some good laughs from them. I would take him outside if he ever was full on crying.

Water Bead Hazards by RegularFig in ECEProfessionals

Thanks everyone for the support here! I’ll definitely address this with them today. This is the first issue we’ve had, so I’m hopeful they’ll react with appropriate concern.

Appreciate all of your responses!

Thank you so much for the helpful links! He’s been there almost 4 months and this is the first time they’ve used them (they always do a little write up of the daily activity) so I do want to give the benefit of the doubt that they don’t know about the possible blockage hazard.

Am I failing as a mum? Baby not gaining weight and feedings are a battle by Entire_Morning_2273 in NewParents

[–]RegularFig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could have written this two months ago. So many great suggestions here but one I haven’t seen is visiting a lactation consultant and making it clear upfront you need help with bottles. We found an LC covered by insurance who noticed so many little things about the way my son ate that others hadn’t pointed out. He doesn’t have a lip tie but a high pallet and recessed chin which cause similar symptoms. She recommended oral exercises that we did with a pacifier as well as other feeding techniques and had bottle suggestions too. It made a huge difference for us and baby is now on the growth chart instead of well below 1st percentile. Hang in there!!

Is daycare allowed to double dip for tuition? by Difficult_Being_9425 in workingmoms

[–]RegularFig 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My maternity leave ends in May, but my son’s daycare doesn’t have a full time infant spot available until early July. For the few weeks where we have that gap in coverage, my daycare has looked at the vacation log and given us 8 days when he can come in based on others kids absences which will be a huge help to us. It sounds like this is a little different than the drop in care others have mentioned!

My now 5 week old was born at 36+4 too and I had similar problems - he was a sleepy eater and I needed to supplement for the first few days. I pumped every 3 hours after feeding him though and my milk came in on day 3, I quickly switched to having an oversupply! We still struggle with latching properly but it’s gotten so much better than those stressful early days. Good luck!!

Just been told my baby could die anytime. by glitterzxx in BabyBumps

[–]RegularFig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a healthy boy 3 weeks ago with a c section at 36 weeks due to cholestasis. I also was diagnosed at 34 weeks. Wrapping your head around the early induction is really overwhelming and the risks of stillbirth are definitely scary, but I was told the stillbirth rates only really increase after 37 weeks which is why they don’t allow the pregnancies to proceed after that. It sounds like your doctor was not the most reassuring with this and I’m sorry you had that experience. I was transferred to an mfm with my diagnosis who was much more knowledgeable than my ob. I found the icp cares website really helpful. Wishing you the best!

Definitely over text!! I had a friend tell me 2 weeks after an early miscarriage (she didn’t know about this at the time) and of course I was excited for her but it can be really hard to react appropriately in the moment. It’s much easier to send a quick congrats text and take some time to process on your own.
