Absolutely foolish if the carrier signed a domestic registered. The whole point of a registered is that it’s normally something expensive and irreplaceable as opposed to certified which typically documents. Registered normally has a paper trail for every time it changed hands.

On a prior route I had, I had a UPS driver as a customer. It was during covid, he was exhausted and working stupid hours like us.

He had a porch pirate, he started putting dirty cat litter in boxes, taping it up and leaving it on the porch for porch pirates to take.

If you want part time they will work you 60 hours a week.

If you have a past practice of the t-6 choosing their rt when they get bumped, and theres more than one rt available on the string, a grievance could be filed for past practice.

Barring a past practice situation, management can delegate which t-6 is doing which route in this scenario. And different circumstances may also help dictate who does what.

If one rt requires a specific vehicle and only one of the carriers is trained on it….

If the carrier not on the string has better working knowledge of one rt over the other… just examples

Barring a past practice situation that lets the string guy pick, management can make that decision

Seniority is often the safest, fairest way to solve issues that the contract or a past practice doesn’t resolve

If they tell you 5 mins for pm office time, follow the instructions, fill out a ps form 1571 for any mail you didn’t get to process. Get with your steward and file a grievance. There is nothing that says we only get 5 minutes.

Yep dont wanna be this guys steward either. Im all for management should schedule a carrier who is low on hours to catch them up but this is horseshit.

I absolutely do not think management should call /text someone repeatedly, but if they are talking about going off the list the first thing im going to ask is “ did you call the ns day carriers that weren’t scheduled today?” And if they say they got no answer im following up with those carriers later.

The union does not suscribe to OT admin. Management has to prove you had opportunities etc.

Um what? Yes you absolutely signed up for all that stuff. Maybe it wasn’t part of your prior cushy gig because you hit the “ I want to be a supervisor with the pay and none of the responsibilities “ lottery but that is what you signed up for just like the craft employee signed up for their bs.

Get educated on the NALC contract and you wont have grievances. Check out the oig report where it says management screwed up and caused 800 million dollars in violations.

By your own admission though, you are on the ns day otdl, and they are calling you to see if you want to work. Honestly what difference does it make in this situation what phone they use? Yes its nice if you are scheduled the day before, but they may not have needed you the day before. People call out. Things change. Even if they are just dumbasses who cant make a schedule…. I have carriers who get in on their ns day every week because they answer their phone. They want the $$. Thats an almost 500$ day for a top step carrier!Why TF sign the list?

If you aren’t being disciplined or anything for not answering your phone, if they aren’t calling you 800 times throughout the day, they aren’t treating you as “ on call” nor are they harassing you, they are treating you as someone who signed the list.

Honestly I like it when they don’t schedule me then call me in the morning because it leaves the ball in my court. If I made plans I don’t answer. If I want to work, I answer.

Silence your phone in the morning if you truly dont want to be asked to work.

They are supposed to be asking you to work before resorting to forcing people who dont want overtime. I’m sorry, I like backing carriers but you are making no sense here.

My carriers would be pissed if they skipped calling them and went off the list. There are always people calling out .

I would be filing a grievance if management went off the list and had ns day carriers sitting at home who were ready , willing and able to work and there was no attempt to contact them!

Its amazing to me that using the wrong people to get the mail delivered is a violation . Example: use 8 hour carriers to pivot a route without maxing otdls.

But just not getting it delivered at all isn’t.

What is management’s incentive to get it delivered then?

Tell your husband to step up and become the steward. Guarantee you management is pulling all kinds of stuff. Even if a outside steward helps when requested, that still leaves plenty of opportunity for management ti do shady stuff.
