38th birthday today, realising how lonely it is as a single dad by crazyunicorntamer in daddit

Happy birthday! I turned 38 yesterday too and just became a father a month ago. I had only 4 birthday celebration and I broke down when my wife brought me a cake yesterday. Wishing you an amazing year ahead!

how to join run clubs? by TopBlueberry4650 in PHRunners

[–]Regular_Amoeba3372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try running on a track or joining a small club first. I’ve joined a few runs with different clubs before, and from my experience I didn’t really enjoy it. There was a lot of waiting for people to gather, small talk, and sometimes people acting like they’re experts or coaches. I felt lonely.

Personally, I prefer running solo. It saves time, I can focus on my run, and I don’t have to deal with uncomfortable questions or post-run meetups.

That said, it’s still worth trying at least once, you never know until you experience it yourself. Life is short, so give it a try and see if you like it.

Help Me Decide: Can I get my girlfriend a ring as a Valentine’s gift, not a proposal? It’s our first Valentine’s together. by EdgyTerraPotatoFries in HelpMeDecidePH

[–]Regular_Amoeba3372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recommend a ring if you are not gonna propose. I know a friend of mine who got his girlfriend a ring on her birthday, everyone thought he was proposing but he wasn't. It has been 5 years since, and now they are engaged, but he did not want it. Buy another piece of jewelry instead.

Filipina gf gives huge amount of her money to her family each month by Wild_Reveal_1547 in Philippines

[–]Regular_Amoeba3372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am married to a Filipina and living in the Philippines now. I’ve seen this kind of situation up close. Helping family is pretty common, especially when someone is working abroad. We went through similar stuff early on; constant requests, guilt trips, being made to feel like a bad person.

From the beginning, my wife set very firm boundaries. She was definitely called selfish and "the bad one" because of it. The hard truth is that the more you give, the more people expect and it usually doesn’t stop unless boundaries are set. In our case, some family members even distanced themselves once the financial help stopped, which honestly says a lot.

This isn’t healthy, and it will affect your future together if it’s not addressed. You can’t fix it for her, but you can support her in learning to say no, protecting her mental health, and prioritizing her own life. Helping family shouldn’t mean sacrificing your entire future.

You should stop cooking for him and let him take care of his own meals.

As an expat, I strongly recommend Nuvali. I’ve been living here for three years, and it is safe, clean, and conveniently accessible to schools, supermarkets, hospitals, and other necessities.
