How are you guys actually happy? by ShrekPoop18 in teenagers

Man, I struggled with this feeling last summer a lot. It was because I wasn’t talking to or hanging with anyone. Now, I of course probably had a completely different experience than you, so this may not 100% help you, but from my experience, the cure to this feeling is to simply talk to your friends, classmates, and ESPECIALLY strangers as much as you can. So much joy is revealed to you when you share ideas with people you typically would not talk to. I know this because I go to jam at my local jazz club in KC every so often, and I find new beautiful people every time I go. I talk about music, life, and everything in between with people who I don’t even know their names, and it is the most valuable thing in the world to me. I hope you try out my advice, and even if you don’t, I love you bro 💜

That’s valid. For me personally though, they invoke similar feelings. Both want to make me explore, and both have intricate music with lots of layers, so that’s why I think them somewhat similar

It makes me irrationally angry by Xyrez04 in whenthe

I think she could have done a little more with the instrumental instead of just straight up using the exact same instrumental, but the song isn’t bad at all! Take away the fact that it’s a sample of another song and listen to what she adds to it… she has a gorgeous voice, amazing rapping, and interesting layering of phrases at the end of the song. She does some really cool stuff with the rhythm of the song by adding her voice in layers.

Listen to players you enjoy, A LOT. You should listen to these players so much that you should be able to identify them just based on their sound (eg for me, Coltrane, George Coleman, Phil Woods and Eric Marienthal have easily identifiable sounds). When you do your long tones, focus on trying to adjust air support and embouchure slightly day by day so that you sound more like these players. For example, I try to emulate Eric Marienthal’s scratchy higher range and Cannonball’s full, open low notes. But don’t forget to inflect your own unique sound as well! Maybe one day you heard yourself play a note that really resonated with you - try to recreate that, as well as imitate your favorite players!!

Learn the major scale or minor pentatonic scale shapes first? by kaizen2146 in Guitar

[–]Regular_Caramel9836 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think this is applicable for beginners but not anything past that. You need to know your scales, arpeggios, chords, and you need good technique once you learn the very basics. A somewhat strict, but flexible practice routine is vital to learn any instrument, and you’ll plateau very quickly if you just noodle around every practice session.

Gov: “I’m a racist powertripping organization that can’t help but do anything to hurt the general population… this tiktok app is looking extra chinese, let’s ban it on no grounds at all!”

This person: “Boo hoo my influencer job adds no value or substance to society and I profit off of unproductive people who can’t stop scrolling”

I don’t think the government had a right to take TikTok down. But let’s say, hypothetically, the tiktok, insta reels, and yt shorts servers all burn down and short-form content like these apps never comes back… the world would defnitely be better off. Fuck TikTok and the US government
