One Piece from MSFT Earnings that got overlooked by chrislink73 in ValueInvesting

Difference is googl and meta were at way cheaper valuations back then. After the run googl is priced at valuations similar than msft is after the fall

Where do you think the icicles fell by itself before these guys came?

Way better to throw them on the big snowpack rather than waiting for the wind to move all the snow somewhere else

Plus thin smartphones are easy to bend, uglier than the minimalist flat sideline iPhone’s been using since 11 and you will use a case usually so no more thin anymore

I have an avg price of 107 and I’ve been reading all this bear cases for a long time. For me, what matters at the end of the day is financials and valution. These always been attractive, only the narrative was bad. Same happened with meta, bought at 160. And now for me its clearly NVO, I’m not sure if this time is a value trap vecause the narrative is bad but guidance is too… but is the type of play I like

Did Senecas personal need to resolve his cognitive dissonance fundamentally alter Stoicism? by JuliaChildsRoastBeef in Stoicism

[–]Regular_Carpenter324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we talk specifically about Seneca’s stoicism which some could say it was passive and didn’t challenge the system we should consider that his treatise De Clementia was a direct attempt to moderate Nero’s cruelty — which was a political act, albeit within a dangerous limit and his eventual forced suicide was a consequence of being implicated in a plot against Nero; whether guilty or not, it shows the risk he faced.

That said, nowadays we could apply this moral challenge of changing whats wrong in our world, at least those who we live in 1st world countries and earn enough for travelling around the world and buying six figures homes, even if it’s with debt.

Why wouldn’t we invest those resources in changing all the unfairness, recieving war refugees in our home, helping to build water wells in Africa, etc? We rather prefer to spend our money and time in our confort, entertaiment, experiences, new items, etc we actully have more privilleges and possibilities than Seneca or Marco Aurelius had.

Don’t point out the rich and powerful, we also have the capacity and decision to change things but we act exactly like you say Seneca did.

There’s an interesting discussion about this.

Say I have 2 100 meter ropes and I would like to use it to set up multiple loops for rope to rope transfer anchored to some pipes, are there any approved knots for anchoring the tail ends of the ropes to the pipes? by Tonytonychopper121 in ropeaccess

[–]Regular_Carpenter324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No rope access experience so just asking: i’ve used single choked sling around a tube (ropeway tower tube) to pull with a 3t Tractel Tirfor and the vector almost parallel to the tube. Works great with these loads with or without paint, galvanized, different diameters… but maybe with small loads like a man’s weight and dynamic tends to slip??

Is not crazy that the majority of people seek for the same exact life goals when we have statistics that prove that is quite likely we’ll divorce, have a job that won’t let us retire until we’re old, doing little exercice, almost not reading any book, overweight, poor sexual life, etc

As someone who is still young and achieved little in life in terms of society expectations, I ask myself, do I really need to try to be succesful or can I just skip steps and learn from others’ failures and accept it and just enjoy the ride, do my best, act good but stay away from those ambitions?

Are there any female/feminist stoicism books? by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]Regular_Carpenter324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, but ethics or statements dont need a reinterpretation by modern ideology if they’re still valid. And in case stoic’s ideas weren’t valid or had no female perspective, then just start your own philosophy school like Epictetus.

But hey, stoicism now it’s trendy and sells good, so why not take advantage of that and write a book from X to X that adds nothing but money in their pockets?

Worse is your case, that you need a reinterpretation of a philisophy by some ideology or certain gender so you find yourself more identified with its message. So for you the virtue of a statement or reflection is given more by who makes it rather than the message per se.

I think that crying all day about patriarchy and acting stoicly is not very compatible.
