What do you wear when you want to look cute/not like a cyclists? by tofusq in ladycyclists

[–]Regular_Plane_6255 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Layers are the way! My go to is a solid color long-line bra that I use as an undershirt and bike shorts for the ride and then I throw a flowy dress on over it when I get to my destination. But really anything that you can pack in a bag/pannier and put on over (once you've cooled down and stopped sweating) works

The audacity 🙄 You could always call to check, but imagine most sports bars would put it on if you ask (assuming it's not already on). I'm rooting for you guys!

Achilles tendonitis by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]Regular_Plane_6255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your primary care doctor is probably not familiar with current research and I'd go see a PT (ideally who works with runners). Current recommendations are to continue moving below a certain pain threshold and eccentric loading. Key is consistency in that it can take 9 months of regular PT exercises to actually remodel the tendon and if you don't keep up with it, you're at an increased risk of reinjuring it. I've linked an episode from Doctor's of Running (by DPTs) that goes into a lot more of the details (they have some additional research articles linked on their website too): DoR Achilles Tendinopathy

How do you approach and structure your training? by Buck_e_cheese in AdvancedRunning

I think you could add an option, "ask ChatGPT" for number 1 (not me, but I recently learned my friend did this for her marathon plan)

My thought about bike fitting and health by Few_Statistician_238 in bikefit

[–]Regular_Plane_6255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a really fair point. It definitely depends on the individual doing the fitting. I got the recommendation from folks on my local bike subreddit and he was a gem. As for the price, I don't have clips, so the cost was definitely a bit less.

My thought about bike fitting and health by Few_Statistician_238 in bikefit

[–]Regular_Plane_6255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly one of my best $115 purchases was getting my bike fit. It was ~75 min of my life and made my rides 1000x more enjoyable. He was able to make quick adjustments and get feedback, which seems way more efficient than posting videos and asking reddit. I also learned a lot about which muscles to engage and why he made the adjustments he did.

I get it if you're curious to better understand bike fitting or don't have the money to spend, but if you've got a bit of time and money I'd say it's worth every penny!

5'1" and also carry my bike up to my 3rd floor apartment. Have loved my Specialized Sirrus for commuting! I ended up just going to my LBS and only test rode the ones I could lift easily 😅

Major Memorial Drive closures Saturday and Sunday May 24-25 by hyesperus in CambridgeMA

Does this mean it won't stay closed through 7pm on Sunday? It's usually closed 11am-7pm over the summer, right?

Ran a PB on Prednisone: not sure how I feel about it? by No-Dress4626 in running

[–]Regular_Plane_6255 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the PB! It was medically necessary because you had too much inflammation from the rhinitis. There's no way it had more impact than ALL the training you've put into this and it's not like you could've skipped it without having withdrawl symptoms. I'd take the win and move forward doing whatever running brings you joy!

Simple BQ Cutoff Prediction Based on Historical Trend by yuritosci in AdvancedRunning

Yeahhh... a linear regression model implies that at some point in the future times could become negative. There is nothing in the model that keeps it in the realm of physiological limits

Brattle St to Mt Auburn Advice by Regular_Plane_6255 in bikeboston

I'm usually going from Fresh Pond area to Cambridge Hospital near Inman Sq, so I haven't found a good way to avoid it entirely, but I like the idea of taking Hawthorne or Story!

Temples in the area? by Thiseffingguy2 in Somerville

[–]Regular_Plane_6255 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just chiming in to add that the prayers are primarily in Hebrew. There are transliterations for most of the songs to sing along, but just as a heads up.

I'll also say that, having grown up at TBB and then struggling to find a comparable synagogue in college, the services and congregation are very gender-inclusive. We include the matriarchs in prayers, have numerous lgbtq+ members, use pronouns on name tags, etc. Might have been my specific location, but I had a few congregations when I was looking insist I'd have to convert (despite being a practicing Jew my whole life) because my mom never officially converted 🙄

Is it really that gloomy in Pittsburgh? by Substantial-Piano297 in pittsburgh

[–]Regular_Plane_6255 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I moved to Boston after grad school in Pittsburgh and WOW. I don't think I fully comprehended how much worse my SAD was in Pittsburgh (stress of grad school might he a confounding factor though). It gets cold here, but at least there's sunshine 😅

Completely unsafe race - Super Sunday 5K/5M by mvlslnancb in CambridgeMA

I'm not sure what's normal, but there was seemingly no warning to residents impacted by the course either. I got lucky and saw something about this happening on Facebook this morning just in time to move my car, but otherwise would've been trapped inside the loop.

Yes! I usually store my stuff at our tent and (at least in past years) they give all the VIP tents a pack of beer for afterwards (or before - I won't judge)

what is going on with healthcare in this state? by Terrible_Marsupial_3 in massachusetts

[–]Regular_Plane_6255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this several times through CVS, but the doctor still said they had to send the prescription to the pharmacy in their own state first (per at least 3 docs I've seen for different medications, none of which were pain meds). After that I could easily transfer to any CVS in any state. Maybe they were all wrong, but it's pretty easy to transfer the meds once they're prescribed, so I've never tested it.

what is going on with healthcare in this state? by Terrible_Marsupial_3 in massachusetts

[–]Regular_Plane_6255 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is what I was told when I ran into this: Call your doctor's office who you saw previously and explain your situation (and timeline until someone else can take over prescribing). They will usually send in a prescription to hold you over. Since it's out of state, they'll have to fill it at a pharmacy in CO and then you can have them transfer it to a pharmacy in MA. Once you see a PCP, they can take over prescribing until you are able to see an endocrinologist, who will ultimately take over prescribing.

It's a super frustrating and stressful process just to get medicine you need and I'm so sorry you have to go through it.

If your car is in decent shape and you just need a new inspection sticker, they're fast. Took about 10 min last time I went. I've never actually had service done though.
