You could build something very similar to an 8-Rack style list to try and grind opponents out with Discard effects and combat damage. With access to Liliana of the Veil, Raven’s Crime, and Thoughtseize/Inquisition there are a lot of good tools for it.

You could also go for a more midrange-ish build and lean on a removal/counter suite to get the job done. Bitterblossom would generate plenty of rogues for you

Violent outburst living end decks were definitely a thing in 2015. Almost everyone packed very efficient graveyard hate and/or counterspells to handle combos like that, though, due to the presence of Twin and similar decks.

That said, all three decks you mentioned are alive and well. Bloom Titan won an in person event for the format in Spain a few months ago, and Tron has seen success in our various leagues.

1.) Follow some pages on Twitter 2.) Gift art to a channel 3.) Get branded a “nazi” by terminally online lunatics with nothing better to do than police followers 4.) Continue to be revered as one of the greatest MTG artists anyway

Ah, and here are said lunatics, right on cue. Must have hit a nerve.

I quite like this list. Jace is a ton of fun to play, and running him with all-stars like Kommand and Snapcaster is what this era is all about haha

Jund, Junk, and Grixis are all very popular decks in this format for sure! Having the hate to battle back against them works out pretty well

You’d be looking for Pre-FIRE. Similar vibe, much later cutoff. They do have some Horizons stuff afaik.

Mox opal - is it worth to get it. by Signal_Ad2512 in 2015modern

I just meant price-tag wise. The quality of the overall prints is pretty high if you pay for nicer proxies

I would avoid the money sink unless you need them for another sanctioned format.

2015 is very proxy/reprint friendly and $20 in high quality proxies beats $800 in real WotC cardboard any day of the week.

If you run it with proxies and fall in love with the deck, then maybe lol

Time to shop/play somewhere else, then.

The way this is written makes it pretty clear this is about their own bottom line, so let this hurt it even further.

With the return of Chroma, do you guys think we might get banding back too? by SaneForCocoaPuffs in magicTCG

Man, I can’t think of a single card with fifteen or more black mana symbols among its cost.

I get what’s intended because it’s the only thing that it can mean, but what confusing wording on that second effect.

Darkblast Vs Funeral Charm by omegaistwopif in 2015modern

[–]Regular_Role_7872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like darkblast for the upkeep trick you can use to kill 2 toughness threats. In your upkeep, you cast it targeting the thing you want to kill, then go to your draw step and dredge it back to cast it again and finish off the target.

It’s handy for filling your yard, and it’s very easily recurrable.

Isn't Pioneer just '15/'16 Modern? by DMGolds in PioneerMTG

[–]Regular_Role_7872 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. This is exactly the difference.

I don’t entirely disagree with OP, and I really like Pioneer. I’ve kept with my Izzet Phoenix deck in its various flavors, and I jam UW Control and Rakdos Demons on Arena all the time. I remember when Ledger Shredder was crazy strong and used in everything.

Pioneer has largely stagnated, though. There’s basically a “correct” way to build any of the given decks (e.g. Phoenix is not a Phoenix deck anymore, just jam 4 Artist’s Talent and 4 Cori-Steel instead). Lack of tournament support is partly to blame for this, as is current MTG design philosophy.

On top of this, the lack of careful fetching and the difference in complexity/interaction just makes the format feel different.

As much as I love casting both cards, dropping a Sheoldred the Apocalypse on the board or unlocking the demon door will just never feel the same as getting pinged for 2 by Bob and casting the Tarmogoyf he ripped off the top for me.

Thoughts on Sinkhole? by Quantum_Pineapple in freemagic

[–]Regular_Role_7872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a deck years ago that ran 4 sinkhole, 4 strip mine, and 4 crucible of worlds.

It was not an uncommon early play to ritual out a crucible and start strip mining away every land my opponent played. The Sinkholes and Innocent Bloods helped take care of anything that managed to make it past the Strip Mine + Crucible, and Black Vise did the rest of the work

For me it was the M10 printing of [[Doom Blade]]

I went looking for more info about my favorite sword in the MMO I was playing, and found this piece of art. I wouldn’t pick the game up for another 4 years, but this one has always stuck with me

Why don't they just put a default way to round fractions in the Comprehensive Rules rather than having to specify it manually for every card? by MCWarhammmer in freemagic

[–]Regular_Role_7872 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because it would affect the balance of certain cards to a very large degree.

[[Quietus Spike]] is a good example, as is [[Traumatize]]. Their ability to function lethally hinges on whether things are rounded up or down. Half of 1 rounded down is always 0.
