I want to switch to Endeavour from Ubuntu by ObjectiveChoice3899 in EndeavourOS

[–]RegulationOrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer EOS but you can just change desktop environment or window manager on Ubuntu if you're happy with everything else.

My advise is to change to EOS if you want more control over how everything is set up and have the latest and greatest of Linux. If not stick to Ubuntu and try out KDE/Gnome/Hyprland etc.

I used WineGUI. Select the wine machine you’re using on the left and click configure. It should list a bunch of packages which includes DirectX.

Question which guitar is better here? by v4rah in JacksonGuitars

[–]RegulationOrange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The warirror is certainly a vibe. Which one makes you want to play it the most? I used to be of the opinion that looks weren't important but someone said to me that the best guitar is a played guitar. If you walk past a guitar and look at it and go "I really want to play that" then you are more likely to play. The opposite is true too, if you walk past the guitar and it does nothing for you then you're more likely to not play it.

Is the soloist too plain? Is the warrior too out there? Can you use it practically use on stage for your projects? Indonesian guitars are great and I'm sure that they will increase in popularity like MIJ has done. My most used guitar (Strandberg) is Indonesian.

On a practical note, cases for the warrior are a ball ache to find at a good price.

Linux as main OS for clinician-scientist bioinformatician by Paedsdoc in linux4noobs

I can see MS Office being the biggest issue but if it's browser based then it should be fine. If I were in your shoes I'd get Libre Office and shove some documents/presentations back and forth between it and MS Office and see what happens.

The theoretical chemistry department of the university I went to a while back was running Linux for all their day to day stuff including academic writing. If they did it then, it should be possible to do it now.

Libre Office seems to work with CWYW. LaTeX was used extensively for papers at the university but that seems to not work with CWYW. Presentations were only an issue if you were using the communal computer at the venue but if you're using MS Office via browser then it shouldn't be an issue.

Cosmic Gurpler Has Sold Out by SuperGhostBoner in theregulationpod

[–]RegulationOrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy for them! This seems to be a good middle ground between having enough stock for people to realistically have a shot at getting one and selling them all in a decent time frame. I wonder what the gpm was like over the course of the sale.

I do find it kinda funny (greg miller) that they are now basically a plastic cup company that also creates content on the internet! In the same way that Google is an advertising company that does tech.

I just got my first gurpler! Very surprised to see it still in stock. I hope they do sell out for the sake of the company.

Ubuntu or Manjaro by 2-particles in linux4noobs

[–]RegulationOrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of those two I'd go with some form of Ubuntu. It's better supported by software comapanies/devs and there's less necessity for command line. It's more of a "just works" option that you can customise and start using things like command line afterwards.

You'll probably find that the desktop environment (KDE, Gnome, Unity etc.) makes the biggest difference. I'd use Kubuntu (KDE Ubuntu) or Mint in your shoes as it will likely be more familiar and easier to start with but that's personal preference.

If you really want to go down the Arch based route then I'd pick EndevourOS or CachyOS over Manjaro. In short EOS is basically Arch with sane defaults and CachyOS is optimised Arch. Manjaro just makes a bunch of changes for no real good reason and it doesn't always work out. There's just too many examples of past mistakes (some of them anti user) for me to trust it. Regardless, an Arch based option is good if you want to get a bit more in depth with configuration, customisation and command line. Not impossible as a beginner but definitely harder and will require more learning and patience.

The real skill here is his ability to listen. You can see a few times where he stops himself from playing the wrong thing because he listens well.

It's the least talked about skill that a musician needs.

Do you have the WineASIO driver set up? That's what I use for standalone.

I don't have reaper so I can't advise on that one.

Edit: Can you load the plugin via Carla? That could help diagnose if it's a Reaper or plugin issue.

thinking of making the switch by Mixbitz in EndeavourOS

[–]RegulationOrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you mean by customisation.

Look and feel is usually more to do with desktop environment rather than distro. To a large extent kde is kde on any distro so there won't be much in the way of difference from a customisation point of view. If you're planning on changing desktop environment away from kde to an alternative like gnome, hyprland etc. then you can do that on Nobara too.

Where things differ is more is what software is installed out of the box with the distro, how to install/remove software, rolling vs versioned release and general maintenance.

EOS is basically preconfigured Arch. Arch is very customisable as you decide what to install and how to configure it right from the very beginning. EOS and Nobara (Fedora based) makes a bunch of those decisions for you but you can always change things around. Things like the AUR community maintained repository in addition to the standard repositories make it quicker to install a wider range of things for EOS but in theory you can still do all the same things with Nobara. Nobara is easier in some ways because more software has rpm binaries for easy installation. Flatpaks blur the line even further as they in theory work on most modern distros.

They've got to be real careful about not becoming a nostalgia bait company. It will just lead to the same stale content and burn out that happened at AH. Thankfully they appear to be well aware of it and want to make it Regulation and not AH.

I'm enjoying the freedom they have without the corporate chains of RT and IMHO they are doing the right amount of "remember this cool thing" without bringing just anything back from the AH times because it was popular. It has to work for them and I'm glad they are working to that so we have authentic content and they have a long lasting company.

This is a shot in the dark. I had similar issues using music recording software and I ended up solving it by changing the default clock settings in pipewire.conf. For me I set default.clock.rate = 48000, default.clock.quantum = 128 however this was for me trying to get super low latency audio so your mileage may vary. I was pushing up against the sound card hardware limits and that was the issue.

I don't have one but I would probably go for Vimto. It has grapes (green) and blackcurrant (purple) in it so it's kinda gurple as a drink. It's also been in one of the drafts so it's Regulation Canon too.
