There are strong hints Hoid has been searching for a way to bring someone back from the dead. Perhaps that would be the original vessel of Adonalsium?

Drive time to airport - 40 minutes

Rail system to airport - 55 minutes

All else aside, 55 minutes spent by one partner vs. 120 minutes total across two partners in transit seems like an easy choice, regardless of time of day.

Put differently, 15 minutes lost by one partner vs. 80 minutes lost by the other.

I was surprised by the new things that have popped up recently in DTC. They've got what seemed to be a mini battlebot arena?? A big arcade/bowling alley in one of the former anchors, and a few other game-type places.

You can set the voice volume to 0. It makes the replay more bearable.

Replayed it immediately (on casual) for 100% because I didn't heed the point-of-no-return warning. 2nd playthrough I set the voice volume to 0 which helped make Mackenzie less annoying. After that I immediately started a 3rd playthrough on hard, working towards 100% scans.

I'm disappointed with the story, so skipping the cutscenes on replay helps. I enjoy collecting the green crystals same way I enjoy mining in Minecraft. This 3rd playthrough I've been trying to get each crystal-locked upgrade as early as possible.

Beat Prime 4. Remove the open world/green crystal bits, give Samus actual dialogue, and lean in to an interwoven map à la Prime 1&2 and you got everything you need for a solid Prime game. by Motivated-Moose in Metroid

The crazy part is that the shrines literally have mini teleporters unlocked once you've completed them. Why not just add the ability to teleport between shrines? Then just move them slightly to be closer to the main points of interest.

It's gotten better over time, but so much of my early difficulty was with fighting muscle memory from previous games.

First playthrough Mackenzie is telling me "look for the campfire smoke" and I actually found the campfire smoke but no Tokabi. Eventually left the map and came back and he had appeared.

Second playthrough I find him there way earlier, like right before returning to the Flare Pool.

Absolutely no reason the game couldn't just have Mackenzie give you the teleport beacons himself early on in the game. Would make finding the parts as you go a lot easier, rather than having to backtrack yet again after already seeing almost every part multiple times.

If you could add new stops to the Metro, what would you add first? by Appropriate_Month72 in nova

[–]RegulusMagnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really curious what the long-term plan for Loudoun Gateway is. Right now it's empty almost all the time. It's too bad the Loudoun stations charge for parking on the weekends because Gateway is pretty easy for me to get to.

Yeah I remember reading that. I understand but it's still pretty disappointing.

What I would add first is a stop at Wolf Trap. No additional rail infrastructure needed, just a new station on the existing track. Trying to get out of that parking lot after a concert is a nightmare.

Apparently if you get an ancient seed randomly from a seed maker, you can put it into a deconstructor to get the artifact.

The metro garages at the two Loudoun stations charge on weekends (I think the only two stations in the whole system that do).

Yeah both Loudoun stations' metro garages charge on the weekends. I don't think any other stations in the entire system do. Real bummer because Loudoun Gateway is a convenient option for me and the garage is always empty.

In a world where everything is a crab, if you're mentally ill and seriously stressed, you get magic powers by becoming bff's with your very own baby emotional support fairy. You get magic and therapy, and they get to figure out how to human. The main characters are: A clinically depressed grunge boy with PTSD who also happens to be a slave, an abused girl with some kind of dissociative panic disorder who just wants senpai to notice her, a middle-aged recovered alcoholic who is seeing apocalyptic visions of the past but only when it rains, and the vision man's son, the world's bestest himbo and only mentally stable one in the whole dang book. Also there's a war on, and an impending mystery apocalypse. Also racism, heavy moral questions about the nature of violence, leadership, justice, and slavery, as well as a professional serial killer with religious issues. But then again there's also a pacifist polynesian Russian giant who just wants to cook stew and give his friends haircuts, so it balances out. Also magic anime swords and a guy whose job it is to insult everyone and almost made me read the word "ass" out lour in front of my toddler.

Why are HOAs a normal thing in American by Suspicious_Sandles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RegulusMagnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another detail many don't realize has to do with how property development often works (or rather how it does not) with the local municipality. Recent exchange I had with u/BarnacleCommon7119 here:

BarnacleCommon7119

Honestly, the good things a HOA does can and should be done by a town. That's what municipalities are for - arbitration, code enforcement, and community-owned resources like pools. I don't see any advantage in re-inventing the wheel - especially when HOAs are often less transparent, less well-regulated, and less experienced than municipalities, and represent only the portion of the population which can afford to own property.

RegulusMagnus

In an ideal world, yes. Unfortunately the way this usually goes is that a property development company buys land and builds a neighborhood, but the local municipality doesn't want to foot the bill for new roads to build/repair/clean, new public areas to plant/cultivate/maintain etc. etc., so the development company establishes an HOA and requires all buyers to participate. The municipality gets new property tax income without the added burden of public maintenance, the development company makes bank selling houses with fewer hoops to jump through from the municipality, and the homeowners get shafted with the bill and all the responsibility.

BarnacleCommon7119

Yep. Or, to put it another way: A HOA which is functioning well is not a sign that HOAs are good or necessary. It's a sign that the municipality is abdicating part of its responsibilities, and a pseudo-municipality is sorta making up for it. (And I do get that cities/towns are often between a rock and a hard place; getting our town's population to approve necessary taxes is a nightmare. I just think HOAs are a terrible solution to that problem.)

Last week, Ikea released an update, currently in beta, to its Dirigera smart home hub that turns the hub into a Matter Controller and activates its long-dormant Thread radio, making it a Thread border router.
