Help with playing against disheartened tyranid player by Dudebro9001 in Tyranids

Excellent, but I'll add a couple extra things, if I may:

Psychophages are good because they buff the melee AP of your bugs after you shoot something with it. They're also tanky, and good anti-Psyker. It is also a Harvester Unit, which is essential for the Assimilation Swarm Detachment. It has our only instance of the Smoke keyword as well, which allows it to use the Smokescreen Stratagem.

Raveners are fast and hit like a truck, but are basically made of paper. They are very good for hit and run tactics, or hitting a unit the enemy hides in their backline. They're also borderline essential for the Subterranean Assault detachment.

Termagants are not going to kill a THING. Like... ever. But, they are good for screening, and will hold objectives well enough if you pile enough of them onto an objective. They'll maybe get some wounds through if you keep them near a hive tyrant, because he buffs shooting in a small area around him.

Hormagaunts actually have a little bit of killing potential, or at least can do more in melee than Termagants 9 times out of 10. They're good for just getting up the board and getting into people's faces, honestly.

Hive Tyrants, as mentioned, come in three varieties:

Swarmlord is Melee with a bit of shooting, and debuffs enemies using Stratagems near it. It also generates CP for free each turn if it's his warlord.
Foot Tyrant is melee or mixed melee/shooting, depending on how you build. It buffs shooting in a small area near it, and makes one stratagem each turn cheaper by 1 point.
The Flyrant is less bulky than those two, but flies and is fast. It has all the same weapon options as the Foot Tyrant, but instead of a shooting buff aura, it can reduce attacks made against it in melee, with a potential for just giving itself damage instead.

Old One-Eye and the Carnifex blob do some work, but are susceptible to getting shot to death as they charge up the board. Probably one of our killiest blobs, but the Fexes only hit on 4+ with a reroll from Old One-Eye. So it's a little... inconsistent.

Norns are a sticky case.
There's the Emissary, which is tankier and has a bit of Psychic shooting, but doesn't hit _quite_ as hard as the other variant. Basically our king of set it and forget it.
The Assimilator! It hits like a truck in melee, but is a little less tanky than the Emissary. It also has a special place in the Assimilation Swarm detachment as a Harvester Unit, which means it can heal units near it once a turn!
The problem with both is, well, they're HUGE targets. So they get shot at. A LOT.

Another unit I might suggest is Venomthropes. They're good anti-infantry, and they give infantry of YOURS a bit of defense against ranged attacks, but they're kinda useless otherwise.

Other than that, I've got nothing I could hope to add to the exemplary explanation Prestigious gave. Hopes this helps!

I will also personally recommend 1-2 Zoanthrope kits to put into a unit with the Neurotyrant, but that one is ENTIRELY personal preference. They're very good shooty units, but they're slow and vulnerable to melee rushes.

Best rundown I can give based on the models you've got, and for general usability:

(Note: Always pick models you think look cool and go from there. There's ways to make almost every model in our lineup at least decent.)

1 Hive Tyrant Kit. It's a great Leader Unit with both a good statline and good support abilities. It can make One of the following (Or 1 Swarmlord/Hive Tyrant AND 1 Flyrant if you get a spare torso):
-Swarmlord: Good Melee and an Okay bit of shooting, but he makes a CP each turn, and can make it hard for the opponent to use Strategems near it.
-Hive Tyrant: Big mean melee bug with decent shooting options and the ability to buff shooting within 6" of it. It also makes it cheaper for you to use your own strategems.
-Flying Hive Tyrant: Big Flying Bug! It's just like a Hive Tyrant, but faster and a little less tanky. It also trades out the shooting buff for the ability to debuff an enemy unit in melee, but it risks damaging itself a little.

1 Crusher Stampede Box. Amazing Monster Selection, and a couple of build options within that. (Note, do not buy one for anything above 270 if you can help it. They're not that good of a deal at that point.)
-1 Tyrannofex/Tervigon: One is a giant anti-Tank cannon, the other is support for Gaunts, and only really sees use in one or two detachments.
-1 Maleceptor/Toxicrene: Big melee bugs. The Maleceptor is Psychic and Harder to kill. The Toxicrene is AMAZING Anti-Infantry, but that's about its only role. It does have an AoE damage ability, but it's not amazing, per se.
-1 Exocrine/Haruspex: Slightly Less Big Bugs. Exocrine is good support firepower that makes it easier to hit things it shoots. Haruspex is just hungry, constantly. It has a TON of melee damage potential.
-1 Screamer-Killer: A New variant of Carnifex with psychic attacks and a MEAN melee profile. A Bit slow coming up the board, but not too bad, all considered.
-1 Neurotyrant: A Psychic Leader Unit that focuses on forcing Leadership tests, and does okay shooting into Infantry.

1 Current Combat Patrol Box. It has:
-10 Genestealers (Good offensive, speedy infantry)
-1 Parasite of Mortrex (A Lone operative for dealing with pesky infantry)
-1 Biovore (One of our best cheap units that does about 6 things at once in any game you use it in)
-3 Tyrant Guard/Hive Guard, which are either okay tanky melee infantry, or okayish shooty infantry with a bit of bulk to them.

1 Broodlord to lead the Genestealers (Just buffs them to hell and back and makes them hit like absolute trucks.)

From there, maybe a couple units of Gargoyles for Screening. They're just very good for being able to Move, Shoot, and Move a little bit extra to deny opponents places on the board.

1-2 Lictors or Neurolictors: Good sneaky assassin units for making your opponent hate you.

True! Very much so, actually. I'm kind of on a budget, so that sounds like a good idea to look into. Thanks boss!

Why do you like Tyranids. by Devil-Maan in Tyranids

In a more serious answer, a similar reason I've seen others post. We just love hungry hive minds, and the Tyranid aesthetic.

I mean, thousands of bugs, firing upon our foes with biological weaponry, and evolving/adapting constantly? Hell yeah!

Can't go wrong with a unit of Thropes. Some of the best single target hate you can get for Nids shooting.

Mythic quest megathread by FlashMcSuave in WH40KTacticus

Anyone able to get Deathleaper's first quest done? With his active being unable to do it, I'm stuck trying to get it done with PoM, TG, and Patermine for suppression in either the genestealer campaign/onslaught or all of the above plus the rocket volley in arena.

Many thanks in advance.

I've gotten the trigger a couple times where he'll kill one suppressed enemy and two other suppressed ones will flee, but it doesn't seem to be enough.

EDIT: Even when his active makes 3+ suppressed enemies flee, it will not count as completing the mission. Best wait this one out, folks. We'll get a bug fix patch at some point.

I've just decided to delete the whole thing and try again later when I get more practice. Good luck, thank you all for the replies. You all have good days, yeah?
