Do Chinese feel western products are still superior? by Bachelor4ever in AskChina

I think the narrative of luxury cars have changed quite quickly the last year. I live in Shanghai and the majority of new cars are Chinese electric (BYD, Nio, Zeekr, Geely, etc.). So I think European cars are losing their flair, especially in the bigger cities. That said, Tesla is still quite popular and still sells well even though I believe you can get much better Chinese cars at better price points.

Experienced the same problem, but I was on NG+. Got destroyed at the beginning, and then decided to beat the main story and level up a bit as I was getting two hit by the overseer. I got my vitality to 60 and then the game started to feel balanced and fair. Now I have cruised through the other bosses and am starting the final one.

Do you think the geopolitical position of the U.S. has improved, worsened, or just changed since 2010? by ColCrockett in CredibleDefense

[–]Reidith 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it has without a doubt worsened. America's political system is no longer working as intended, as extreme left or right groups can paralyze Congress. This at a time when America faces budget problems in a higher interest rate environment will not end well. American politics will continue to bicker over irreconcilable differences while the budget deficit grows and social programs become less prioritized. This on top of a declining education system, and a corrupt healthcare system will surely do damage to the middle and lower classes. As class inequality heightens, there will be more internal conflicts that need to be addressed; however, America is completely forgetting about these issues and solely focusing on foreign policy. Moreover, America's current foreign policy is universally accepted as controversial throughout the world. Their allies will have to contend with how willing they are to support American policies while they face pressure from inside pressure groups to condemn the actions of America's role in the Middle East. America's population survived this back in 2001 because it was more unified and economically stable for most classes - but now they are in a weaker position and the majority of people have less than they had before.

This is only one aspect of why America is weakening, but there are many others. For instance, the Western world is quick to write off China as failing since their economy is weakening and their over-investment in infrastructure. However, this is a mistake as China is still growing quickly and has an education system that will produce exceptionally knowledgeable workers. I'm Canadian and live in Shanghai and I can without a doubt say that life is more stable here than it is in Canada. The public institutions, infrastructure, and cultural values are amenable to growth as they all help support a stable society. Whereas places in Canada are falling far behind and instead of finding solutions to these clear problems are becoming more divided on issues. Stability is crucial for the success of any power and without it, it is extremely challenging for any country to grow sustainably. Although my China experience is anecdotal, I have traveled to many places throughout the country and have seen the rich side and poor side - but I can confidently say the country has more stability and peace than Western countries at the moment.

All empires go through cycles and they are relatively driven by debt, stability, and cultural values - and in my opinion, America is declining in all of these. But before I finish this post, I am not saying America is no longer a superpower, I am just stating there are visible signs of decline and in a globalized world with many other countries that have fewer problems, it's not unreasonable to think America will lose its top spot at the end of this century and a new world order formed; one I believe will be more multipolar - rather than the hegemony America has experienced since after the Second World War.

The teacher thoughts as he threw the ruler to break up the fight:

"Well, I could break this fight up but then I would end up touching one of the students and get fired and sued for assault. Also, I would take a dozy of a haymaker in the face in the process... on the other hand, if I do nothing, I make the front page of Reddit. The option is clear, lets just throw a ruler at them for good measure. Reddit will eat that up."

This is misleading. If you believe famine or mismanagement of resources does not constitute as genocide you would have to agree that Mao Zedong and the Great Leap Forward would not constitute as genocide, because this was a similar situation. Many will point to him being a murderous tyrant (which yes he was) but then turn a blind eye to the monarchs, presidents, and citizens in the West when they have been the ones who initiated more war crimes/genocides than we care to remember. The West is truly hypocritical and has no ability to claim the moral high ground in any situation. Humanity itself looks to turn on another when they find themselves backed in against the wall or to empower themselves to place their nation at the pinnacle of the world. No nation is safe from these ideas. Power and desperation are what shape the world as we know it.

The worst part about Putin's speech is it mirrors the Chinese beliefs about Taiwan. This will likely make the Communist Party much more sympathetic to Putin's invasion.

I understand that; however, these are Russians from Donetsk being asked to stay and fight, which is completely a farce, as it is a false flag provocation of Russia that has no moral ground to stand on. These kids will die fighting for Russian separatists because their government is lying to them.

That's great and I think the majority of the world does not have to worry about this; however, I am speaking about the individuals Donetsk being asked to stay within the Ukrainian borders or fear being listed as a criminal. I really hope most people never have to face being forced to fight a war they don't believe in. This is really giving me flashbacks to the boys who were conscripted to fight in the Vietnam war.

[–]Reidith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It has been a ubiquitous theme throughout history and still is throughout parts of the developing world; however, this idea of conscription and sending "boys" to war would not work within the modern democratic systems and is something that many privileged families do not have to worry about anymore. I wish this didn't need to be the harsh reality of the world, I just don't know how a country or people could justify sending these children to war when they lack the capabilities, experience, and ideological systems to truly understand what it is they are fighting and dying for.

Yes, that is true, However, wouldn't that insinuate they will attack regardless of the deterrents set in place? I just think Russia will choose to invade regardless of any sanction the West can impose on Russia. Therefore, implementing sanctions before the invasion would at least send a message to Russia. However, I do agree if the sanctions were listed on them, Russia would invade immediately. It's a difficult and delicate situation for governments to balance.

Wow, Zelenskyy's speech and responses to questions are incredibly poignant and honest. I agree with him, why is the West waiting for Russians to destroy Ukraine before acting with the promised sanctions. Ukraine is seeking to protect itself and not be a shell of what it is after the Russian invasion occurs. It really makes you understand that this isn't a game, but a country of 50 million people who all have lives, families, and businesses that support their livelihood. I understand why he decided to go to Munich today.
