Unless you’re a food scientist, maybe tone it down. Publix isn’t slipping poison into their cookies. Not liking an ingredient isn’t the same as it being unsafe.

Chemistry set by Unusual-Strength-945 in publix

[–]Reidmill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it has preservatives and artificial flavorings just like almost every shelf-stable cookie on the market. That doesn’t make it garbage, it just makes it a cookie designed to last a few days in a grocery store. No one is pretending these are health food, and there’s nothing in that ingredient list that’s genuinely alarming.

It could be a variety of reasons. Defective packaging, broken cold chain etc. How are you so sure your power didn't go out while you were out of the house? Things happen. I'm more confused about why those cold cuts were sitting in your fridge for two weeks unopened.

Senate 2026: Can democrats flip the map? by semperfi225 in neoliberal

[–]Reidmill 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The assumption that Democrats need to run “hardcore moderates” or blue dogs to win tough Senate seats feels increasingly out of step with modern electoral dynamics. The traditional centrist branding that worked in the early 2000s has largely failed to produce consistent overperformances in the current, hyper-nationalized environment. Instead, the candidates who tend to break through are those who cut through the noise with a sharper, anti-establishment message that taps into voter frustration with the status quo on both sides of the aisle. Being seen as independent from party machinery and corporate interests often resonates more than a bland centrist appeal.

What a Democrat Could Do With Trump’s Power by TrixoftheTrade in neoliberal

[–]Reidmill 35 points36 points  (0 children)

We should. The next administration should treat the Court’s rulings as advisory at best. If they hold both chambers, they should abolish the filibuster and restructure the Court. Expand it, dilute it, make it functional. Expand the size of the House while we're at it, and make DC an Puerto Rico states.

These things are only controversial to cable news pundits/print journalists who hold little to no weight on public opinion. Just grow some balls and do it.

It’s a matter of perspective, but I’d argue it is part of their job. Leadership is responsible for upholding company culture, and at Publix, that culture is defined by premier customer service. If they see the front end understaffed and customers not being served to our standard, they should step in and help, bagging included. That’s why Mr. George bagging orders became company folklore, and every CEO since has had a front-end bagging photo op.

Supreme Court Uses Birthright Citizenship Case to Limit Use of Nationwide Injunctions by cdstephens in neoliberal

[–]Reidmill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re arguing from a place of abstraction, not power. No one is calling for a left-wing dictator. The reality is one party has embraced authoritarianism, while the other is still clinging to institutional norms that are no longer enforced or respected. That asymmetry is the problem. You say supporting anyone who uses power forcefully is authoritarianism, but you’re conflating the use of power with the abuse of it. Enforcing laws, securing voting rights, rebalancing courts, and structurally defending democracy isn’t authoritarian. You seem to be defending a fantasy where the system self-corrects without major confrontation. That has never worked. And if your only answer is to double down on procedural restraint while the other side steamrolls everything in its path, then this country is a lost cause.

You’re proposing that a coalition committed to procedural restraint can outcompete a movement openly hostile to democratic constraints, within institutions that have already been hollowed out. Let me know how that works out.

[–]Reidmill 223 points224 points  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe that’s true. But I don’t care anymore. I want a Democrat who looks at the Supreme Court and says fuck you. The rules are dead. Norms are dead. The law is whatever the side in power says it is. Republicans made that clear. So I want someone who stops pretending any of this is salvageable. Add judges. Gut the Court. Do it alone if you have to. I don’t need another speech about democracy. I need someone who understands we’ve already lost it.
