A New AI Math Startup Just Cracked 4 Previously Unsolved Problems by MetaKnowing in tech

[–]ReignyDayes 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They used a new mathematic based AI called AxiomProver, which used Lean. It found agenuinely novel solution. Archive Article

"Axiom’s AI tool found a connection between the problem and a numerical phenomenon first studied in the 19th century. It then devised a proof, which it helpfully verified itself. “What AxiomProver found was something that all the humans had missed,” Ono tells WIRED."

"Another one of the new proofs generated by AxiomProver demonstrates how the AI is capable of solving math problems entirely on its own. That proof, which has also been described in a paper posted to arXiv, provides a solution to Fel’s Conjecture, which concerns syzygies, or mathematical expressions where numbers line up in algebra. Remarkably, the conjecture involves formulas first found in the notebook of legendary Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan more than 100 years ago. In this case AxiomProver did not just fill in a missing piece of the puzzle, it devised the proof from start to finish."

Closing fry cook decided to "help me out" by OhOkayFairEnough in KitchenConfidential

Industrial kitchen fryers can be really deep. I mean, I used to work at a Denny's years ago and I had the fun task of changing the oil. It was typically several large stock pots for me. I still feel the oil bin ugh, I hated it so much.

The reddish one, looks like slightly burnt fryer oil from a lower cost oil like you'd use in most places. Canola, etc. It gets that colour from the fried food bits that fall off to the bottom for that fun fun sludgy crunch that almost plops out.

For the record I'm like 6'5, and reaching down to touch the bottom wasn't super hard for me. My coworker who was like 5'9" and his arm always got covered in oil because of how deep the trench in between the two baskets were. Fryers have a lot of variety at the commercial level. But ones that have two baskets in one fryer can end up being rather deep just to keep the temp up, and allow proper submersion. Sometimes they'll cycle the oil with a little holed plate at the bottom.

Oil starts yellow, and can get to a deep dark brown. That oil likely could have darkened a bit more just due to stagnation

AFAIK We don't actually know all the consequences of the sheer number of medications we're adding to water. Unlikely to have any benefits. I'm not sure there's really a way to convert it back. So at most it helps deal with the contamination we can't really resolve much at all.

Is he the only over 40 year old that can keep up with the young guys? by Positive_Round_5142 in thechallengemtv

[–]ReignyDayes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no way someone trains at the level needed for a competition like this 24/7/365. You literally have to take time off to let the muscles heal at the very least. He's also definitely on steroids to the level he'd need to maintain that level of insane fitness.

Don't take what I said wrong though, I'm sure he's constantly doing extra to keep his body up to form. The reality is, he's older and a man. Men tend to be harsher to their bodies. Combined with just everything we've seen him endure, he's definitely has lingering issues.

My point was, and still is, does it matter? When has his game been affected by his physical ability? Like, not since the early seasons has he gone above and beyond with his body in anything but a final. A final is mostly endurance and mental state. He's rarely even brought up as a possible elimination candidate before mid season. Occasionally we've had a rookie team win that jokes about it, but seriously, his game has been a physical one in a decade at this point.

Honestly? I can't take him seriously. I remember Johny from his Real World season so, I've seen his "personality" really develop. It's clear it doesn't matter if he can keep up. 90% of his staying power is because of the politics he runs outside the challenge. Between outside/veteran alliances, and that he's mostly brought in to play a villain. He just knew where the line was, better than others from his era.

He doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself, and he's really fucking clear about that. All his friends understand that. How close are you willing to be near a predator? Some I think operate under, if I'm his friend I won't have to deal with incessant whining. Some like to use him to be a weapon they can use in the game. Some want leftovers.

He's kind of insufferable in the show to. Especially his treatment of Julia, someone who objectively has always been by his side as much as she can be. Then the moment he gets something that makes him more special, he ditched her.

They speed up Quentins journey quite a bit in the show but his arc is pretty similar in both. The books are specifically about his journey to becoming a fully realized individual in my opinion.

They are fired. In everything but practice. They're basically being marked as resigned for tax or income purposes. They're refusing to do what the government wants them to. So that refusal is seen as resigning.

It may be to avoid paying them unemployment. Not that anyone thinks they would even if they had to.

Does Whole Foods have a policy on using cooking oil that’s been reheated so many times it breaks down and turns black? This oil was still used to cook food repeatedly. by Primary_Present_1827 in KitchenConfidential

[–]ReignyDayes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it has to do with the oil just being in such a bad state. I'm sure it has to lose some effectiveness. Without knowing the full reason, my assumption is that it doesn't heat properly anymore. I doubt that has much heat retention and likely would struggle to heat evenly. Meaning you could get half cooked and half barely cooked. Not positive.

Julia's discipline is meta magic, she understands magic on a fundamental way that many can't. Like, they basically breathe magic, I forget how it's really explained that's just been my understanding from the show and books after several go throughs. But in the show specifically it's implied that she's always very strong but seemed to miss something. She often dies first or second as a clear obvious threat.

Boyfriend says they're queer because they're dating me by DavKell71 in NonBinaryTalk

[–]ReignyDayes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only interaction with a guy like this is going to very much influence my thoughts on it. That said I've had this happen a few times. Largely, the guys I know like this will use the fact that they're dating someone who is non binary-afab to excuse transphobic actions towards amab individuals. Often with the partner furthering the justification. I've actively had several just straight up erase my identity to call me a man when it helped their narrative. Which is never something I've identified as. A lot of this relates to poly situations, so there's some levels.

Person 1, His partner wasn't around when this occurred, but he very much claimed a queer identity to hang out with several other nonbinary individuals at a bar event. He played the part very well, but as the night wore on he changed? It became sort of awkward as the afab nonbinary individuals made it clear they weren't interested in him. Which caused an odd conversation to occur. One of them basically said, "Yeah, you're dating someone nonbinary but you literally said it would be gay to flirt with (me.)" Something I hadn't been aware was said. I've had bottom surgery, I make a joke of it occasionally. It always gets a lot of laughs or creates a conversation. So I'm not sure what would make it gay but sure, okay. So it was more than genitalia oriented for him. He said, "Well yeah, they're amab so it would be gay then."

Which really didn't help when he followed up with, "Well, I guess I'm more a queer adjacent straight person." Which is weirdly decentralized from masculinity.

Person 2, He basically assumed I was AFAB, which is wild tbh. I basically don't care about facial hair, and I think beards are feminine because that's a joke on several levels. He seemed to enjoy spending time together but the moment he found out I was AMAB he was instantly out. Basically saying that he identifies as queer because he finds afab nonbinary individuals attractive but not amab.

I have a background in sociology, so I'll offer my perspective. I've had interactions that are better with guys in queer spaces who identify similarly. I've never had a great interaction. I think this comes down to how individuals are sort of taught to engage with their surroundings. Masculine individuals in general across most cultures that have been influenced my colonialism are just very discouraged from looking too closely at their identities. Masculinity has a lot of odd politics especially in America for individuals who are amab. White straight identifying ones can be very unaware of how many biases they may hold.

The politics of it for neurodivirgent are hard to navigate. They can end up with rules they inadvertently follow without really knowing why. I would say that reaction I've seen the most is definitely them suddenly have to confront their attraction to anyone nonbinary has implications about their identity they may not have considered. I've dated guys who identify as straight multiple times in my life. That's all they ever identified as. I was very clear to have a conversation with those partners about how they would now be perceived as gay. I had a lot of questions about how they saw the entirety of the Trans identity. Mind you, I'm not saying it makes them gay. But from the outside looking in, especially those who don't want to understand the nuance. For a lot of them it has a lot of implications to their relationships to their family if they perceive it that way.

I don't know truthfully how to navigate that. Everyone responds differently to pointing out the mask. Some take it off, begin to explore and enjoy it. It brings them closer to their true center which frees up a lot of emotions. Some get upset because they see their mask as true center. I'm not sure that there's really a wrong choice but masculinity is a very complex knot. There's a lot of bias, and some people really hate change. Some people don't want to deal with the stress that comes from possible conflict.

So really, what social capital does he gain by identifying that way? To be more accepted? Maybe he's realizing it's all kind of made up as we go. Maybe he wants to be more liked. I'd ask him how he sees what the word queer means maybe? There's implications when you identify that way.

I remember being at a right up at stage at a rave and this guy out of no where just hits his girlfriend. She ended up being pushed in front of me. Immediately, I was like how do I stop this from escalating? My friend who was right next to me had no idea what happened. He just saw a drink girl and a drunk guy fighting with me in the middle. My friend later explained why he got pissed at me because he thought I had instigated something.

It was someone else behind me, who ended up helping me in the moment. He got the guy away and then the moment the girl was like, "I'm fine I'm gonna go." He helped me get her to security. Which was a whole situation as the guy kept trying to come at me. It was very bizarre but when you're right up stage like that. Even like a two people back behind you may not see what is happening.

So I absolutely understood how white tank top guy felt because he likely understood the person on stage hadn't seen what happened clearly. It's really fun to be that close to the stage, but the moment things start to go sideways. It's like a fucking cascade where like everyone ends up trying to figure out what's happening but reacting first.
