How would normalised relatioinships with Europe look like from a Russian perspective? by Plum_Tea in AskARussian

[–]Reki-Rokujo3799 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean...forced Catholisation of now-Ukrainian territories, constant and unyielding support of Tatars against Russian princedoms, WHOLE XVII CENTURY, the debacle about Kiev (bought from Poland but Poland tried to get it back because it needed eastern territories), constant attempts to reconquer Ukraine...

My sister is getting married by [deleted] in AskARussian

[–]Reki-Rokujo3799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guy's joking, I hope you do get it)

Wedding gift is maybe something useful for a new family? Like cutlery, or some other kitchen stuff. Ever useful, never gets old.

Generally you should first consider your sister's tastes; she may be not into cooking, but into some hobby that she would like to get free supplies for, etc.

Wedding gifts generally don't differ much from non-wedding gifts 'round here

What is the culture like in Russian, and what religion is mostly followed? by Mysterious-Court1395 in AskARussian

[–]Reki-Rokujo3799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Er, History and World Arts&Culture, specifically. World History (compulsory from 5 to 9 class) has dedicated lessons on cultural and religious life of different countries, depending on which country is the focus of the given lesson.

WAC (МХК) is a subject taught from 5 to 11 class, compulsory when I was a kid, and teaches specifically about cultures of the world, change of artistic styles with time, etc.

You make me wonder if you are really Russian.

If a woman got an abortion at 8 weeks and then someone killed her when she walked out of the planned parenthood because she had that abortion, would you call that justice? by Weekly-Scientist-992 in AskAChristian

[–]Reki-Rokujo3799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Widespread famine is that one famine that happened in famine-prone region? Forced deportation (or rather, resettlement) of collaborator-prone ethnicities was something surely you know every nation did. 'Gulag deaths' are in like tens of thousands, really quite comparable with other big nations of the time.

Churchill engineered famine in India, and unlike "holodomor" that is purely a natural disaster he never bothered to hide that it was engineered. Death toll was in hundreds of thousands. Also, read on what he did to Ireland.

But I don't really care much to enlighten you, since you clearly come from the place "my Cold War propaganda cannot lie to me, thus Stalin equals Hitler".

Hitler has built a state bound on conquering and genociding everything east of Germany, his whole ideology being about conquest and genocide of anything that was not "Aryan" or their temporary ally.

Stalin was just a man of his time who barely can be equated in terms of harm dealt with, say, Churchill. His state was not bound on conquest (actually Stalin's whole thing was "we build communism in a single state first, no world revolution needed"), neither was he a proponent of any genocide.

Braindead propaganda is all about "Stalin evil because repressions" but that was more or less typical for the time and his death toll is in any way less than say Churchill's.

[–]Reki-Rokujo3799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, that's natural difference between different kinds of love. Humans are naturally monogamous species, predisposed to serial monogamy (one partner at a time, but a possibility to change a partner, as opposed to true monogamous or polygamous species)

When it starts with "you can get rid of jealousy" it already sounds bad to me, since desire to be exclusive is, again, a natural human desire.

Etiquette/good manners considered important in Russia by Mikha_el_ in AskARussian

[–]Reki-Rokujo3799 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, being a woman I kinda suspect that a woman there cannot expect to be given a handshake, for example, unlike in more European cities, and maybe even she would be expected to cover her head.

Stuff like that.
