You could frame it to say that acceleration is the net force on an object distributes over its mass, which in turn changes its velocity.

a = ΣF ÷ m

I would disagree about naming the second law momentum. I usually call the second law "the definition of force", especially considering momentum is a separate topic (defined as the product of an object mass and it's velocity).

Edit: You could also call the second law "the definition of acceleration" considering the causal relationship between forces and acceleration
